***GAME STARTED***

First time hosting a game, so here goes nothing... err actually I hope something, but...

ANYWAY heres what the idea is:

Playing the included multiplayer version of C3C v1.22's Rise of Rome.

Make sure to give your preferred E-Mail, and all that jazz.

Looking for three humans to play as one of the four civs available:

Rome: Romeothemonk: mattjake@gwtc.net

Macedonia: Aeon221: eeline@thehill.org

Persia: Portuga: nuno.freire@bn.pt

Carthage: Senturus: Senturus@tele2.fr

If you quit I will hunt you down and :sniper: :suicide:

;p

Just give me a few days warning and a lead on a replacement, and I will forgive you.

I kinda want to play as either Rome or Carthage, but do not want to force that, so based on what everyone else decides I will choose something.

Selection is on a first come, first served basis, and I hope to start by next weekend at the latest!

I might be interested. I would like Rome, as that way I would be in 4 PBEM of Ror, one as each different civ.

I am interested but... i'd like to play Carthage.

I can play one time a day, except for two week on december, and on week in mid october (i'll try to get a replacement)

Well, I have no problem playing as Macedon, so thats cool. We have all the people we need, so everyone just needs to send their email and I will get things rolling ;p

I guess it is kinda apropos that Im playin as Macedonia... ;p

:spear:

Err... this may seem like a stupid question, but how do I make the game and save it when I am not Rome, and they have to go first?

Is there a way to make it so Rome does NOT go first?

I have sent my e-mail.

I suggest you to order our play : i usually play between 18H and 24H GMT+1.

The game will be faster if set in a right order.

I have some suggestions :

1) Perhaps another player could play the celts? I think they have a strategic and interesting placement between Rome and Carthage, and are not too weak. (in this case, i could play the celts). 5 players for a pbem not seems to be too much, but it is like you want.

2) I suggest the AI level to be set at regent or Monarch. The main threat must be other players, not AI

3) There is a "first turn diplomacy bug" in some conquest, perhaps there is the same problem in Rise of Rome. In this case, all players should avoid diplomacy with AI in the first turn.

Don't want to intrude into private matters but :

1) Not a very good idea. I tried that playing as the Egyptians in RoR (first game) but it turned out I am pretty useless which is extremely frustrating. Money and navies is all I can make by myself. Scythians and Celts have stronger UUs but they are still unfit against the 4 main powers that are themselves pretty balanced.

2) the AI fares poorly in this game. Celts and Egyptians can be wiped out pretty quickly. IMHO no need to make them even weaker in front of 4 humans. I would advise to make them actually stronger if you want them to be more than meat for humans.

3) As far as I know that bug is strictly limited to WWII Pacific (because of the skip first turn) and even there can be modded out easily. RoR has no such problems.

Et au fait, bienvenue !

LL, thank you for your help!

Senturus, I am aware of the bug and difficulty issues, and point one is simply not an option.

Despite what LL says, I am pretty sure that the AI is simply stupid on the first turn regardless, but had assumed this was general knowledge (common courtesy of course dealing with the problem). I did not think anyone needed a reminder, but...

I think having Romeothemonk start the game would be the simplest solution (Ockham style ;p), but if he does not feel like it I will edit it and have it ready at 3 my time (my first available stretch of free time being around then).

I think that i would have liked playing the celts, althought they are weaker than the four major civilizations. The egyptians seem not interesting because they are too weak and have a "wrong placement" (just near from the powerful persians), but the celts seem to be a bit more powerful, and have the choice of alliance with Rome or Carthage. But i have no preferences between celts and carthage, it was only an idea.

You re probably right for the level of the AI. Eventually, i have no preferences on this.

As for the first turn bug, i have just tested it : with carthage on the first turn i can lead Egyptians against Romains for nothing, althought in the second turn they don't want at all. There is the same problem in napoléonic Europe, i think all player should avoid making alliance with the AI civilizations on the first turn.

Oh ! That first turn problem !
OK. In the other Rise of Rome PBEMs (6 already running !) it was decided no human could sign in an AI the first 10 turns for alliance and the first 5 turns for any deal (but you can accept if the AI contacts you).

Thanks again LL!

That clarification seems like a perfect solution, and one which we will use here (if no one has a problem with it).

Ok, so... I will go do my calc homework ;p

More than happy to start it, Just need to know how to turn off Accelerated production and turn on Preserve random seed.
Thanks

I do not know how to turn off AP for this one... seems kinda weird. I guess we could play with it on if no one cares?

Open the biq file then select menu "Scenario" and select Scenario
properties.
Then in the tab "scenario" it is in the second area (from top to bottom) on
the right of the screen. Be careful to use Ctrl click to slect what you want
without deselecting the others.
You should then save it under a different name and start the game from it.

I meant using the basic file... so I guess that means no...

Portuga, will doing that require that we all have that file, or can we just use the save game without it?

The save file is enhough. The biq file is just needed to start the game.

I'm fine with the default rules also. In the other games I'm playing this conquest I'm playing with the default rules.

But I don't mind playing with AP off. You'll all be conquered by persia one way or the other, muhahaha!!!! :)

...and preserve random seed is always a good choice, I guess...

Road burnings off the Persian border.
Sending the turn onto Portuga.
