RR5 - Peaceful days

You guys should go for dom win, that would be challenging.
I love to quote myself:
That, without the possibility of killing the garrisons, is basically impossible. 10 units in a city basically prevent revolts :(
:D

Anyway, I'll play today ...

First, as sugested by myself, e changed research to Democracy:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0075.jpg

And in good time: Mansa got constitution and, as usual started brokering it.

Some luck with events in Paris :
Spoiler :

Civ4ScreenShot0077.jpg

And Democracy:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0078.jpg

I took the oportunity to trade for RP, that was already circulating.... Constitution was known by 3 civs now, including Mansa, so there was no need to be concerned with monopolies.
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0080.jpg

We got a GS in Paris.
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0082.jpg

Him and the GP we had are still waiting for better uses.

Another event:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0083.jpg

We actually dodged the event diplo penalty ;) So now we have full acess to Toku citiy screens ...

Zara got pissed with us for not acepting a demand from him ( SciMet ), so we waited until someone else got it to trade for it.
Spoiler :

Just in time to queue Bio after Physics

Speaking of Physics...

I included the victory screen for remembering that the only way we can lose this game is by culture :p Seriously ( as oyzar pointed me in a MSN talk ) we should had taken more care about who would get sistine exactly because of that ( it was mansa btw ). Mansa is the AI that is in better position to try culture, so we should start thinking on how to stop it. Adding to that Mansa is outspying us, so we definitely need to put more EP buildings in our empire ( because we don't have any other way of stopping a culture vic in AP besides espionage )

Our trading screen is pitiful :( Well, the worst of it is, because of a border pop of Mansa, we now are their worst enemies, so no trades from mansa ( not that we would want to feed the beast much longer ).

Ad Hoc , you're UP

Hi, guys! I noticed that privateers were mentioned in the very beginning, my usual instinct is building them if i can.
They are "allowed" in always peace, so you might deal some nice damage w/. Have you considered them?
I just tried always (emperor) peace game and I never noticed the AI to bother w/ extra units to prevent culture flips. Settled next to AI capital and it went down soon past music. Sistine is my prime target in such games and often in OCC.

If you use privateers the AI will try to fight w/ naval units and won't mass ground... or at least that's what I noticed.

Looks great for the moment!

Looks fine. Some minor things are that in Paris I'd fire the scientists and work the woods both to let Paris grow (it's stagnated now) and to get SoL a bit quicker and the National Park after that. And I'll mention the as yet inexistant lighthouse in Phrygian, before GreyFox does... :D And it could still use some chainfarming.

I'd like to get the Great Spy from communism after biology, another infiltration of Mansa seems to be in order, especially if he's outspying us. Those spy building will be welcome too. Slightly worried that Mansa would reach communism before us as he only needs to tech liberalism while we're at biology still. So maybe both GSs can bulb each 1/3 of bio and then the profet can spark off a GA? Although an academy in Marseilles doesn't look bad either, and maybe another one in Tours. But I'd definitely use the GPr for a GA.

I wonder what so important in the size-1 city of Cherbourg that demands the attention of 80% of our workers, while there are forest tiles being worked in Avigon/Rouen/etc yearning to be lumbermilled, and forests in Paris to be preserved.

There are two more potential city locations that I see -- south of iron between Paris and Rhemis, and one near the 3 ivories east of Tours.

We should have some spy-specialists running to regain our EP advantage against Mansa, especially those cities that have jails.

got it, been out of town for three days so i'll have a quick read and try to play tonight.

Didn't get a chance to play last night, but did have a quick look at the save.

First thoughts are that using one GS for a Golden Age will enable us to adopt Uni Suff and Emancipation and still leave us with a GP + 1 other in the future for another golden age if we want.

the city to the south west of Paris i think shoud go two south and one west of the pigs to pick up the pigs and deer without having to much overlap while the other city goes on the coastal elephants.

Tech wise commie after biology for the GSpy.

any other suggestions?

Problem with 2S1W of pigs is that it will be one tile from coast and pull in 3 coastal tiles. Whether this outweighs the city overlap is your decision to make :) Personally, I prefer 1S of iron, but only very slightly :D

We are still in research mode, so we have no use for UniSuff I think. Rep is still much better. When we are starting to build spaceships (a very long time to go), then maybe we want the hammers and not the beakers. But now, we want beakers more.

Other suggestions ("other" as in "not mentioned by your post" -- they are actually mentioned in mine ;)) will be to fix the illegal gathering of workers in Cherboug, and swap some specialists in some cities with jails to spies.

Start a golden age with one scientist, and use it to revolt to emancipation

Biology in, start toward communism

SoL built in Paris

Communism, electricity set as placeholder

rr5-4commie.jpg

Finish here, we have a great prophet, two great scientists and a great spy, the spy should infiltrate mansa and the prophet/scientist can start another GS when needed.

couple of settlers in production for the final two city sites ( i still prefer 2S1W of iron, ignoring the coast, tundra and overlap it still has one extra square than 1S of the iron and six grasslands against three )

Forgot to build the lighthouse in phrygian  and it could do with some chain irrigation

Looks good....

We are pretty much in control of the game in technological terms, so I think that this is a straight win if we don't mess up. Mansa is still our biggest competidor in terms of culture, but I would also put a eye on the americans, that have quite a big slice of land...

Said this, I guess we should tech electricity next, even if to avoid Mansa getting broadway. I wonder if we should think on grab the main culture corps to avoid Mansa culture attemps too...

Anyway, nice turns ( don't worry about the lighthouse, the city is not exactly short on food :p )

We should probably build Christian Cathedrals in Phrygian and Chartes to prevent land grabs from Mansa.

We REALLY should build the lighthouse in Phrygian and farm the hamlet north of corn to maximize food there. With Biology, some of the sugars can be farmed as well ... I think it brings more food this way.

Phrygian is also unhealthy. We have a source of un-netted crabs down south.

double post...

We could also do with spreading the other religons we have around, if i remember correct (difficult at my age) we should be able to get three religions in each city.

Plantation sugar and irrigated farmed grassland are both four food... i think, unless we need to chain irrigate i'd leave them alone. Lighthouse....

Nice set, Ad Hoc.
Plantation sugar and irrigated farmed grassland are both four food... i think, unless we need to chain irrigate i'd leave them alone.
Irrigated farmed normal grassland with bio is four food, I think the sugar gives an extra food, so it would be 5 instead of 4 with plantation. Never did that though, so not sure, but I think that must be the game mechanic. Not the most logical mechanic in this game, though. :)

Grassland has 2F. The presence of sugar adds 1F. Plantation adds 1F1C to sugar. Biological irrigated farming adds 2F.

So by farming the sugar with biology, we gain 1F and lose 1C, a very worthy trade. (No need to worry about irrigation, the lake in Mansa lands is irrigating all 3 sugar tiles -- I am not suggestion to farm all 3, 2 is good enough, so that we still have 1 for our own happiness, and 1 to trade).

I am seeing the merit of Adhoc's 2S1W of pigs site, so I have no problem with settling there.

Maybe we should change our EP spending slightly, I'd like to keep an eye also on Lincoln and Zara, who both are not doing too badly. China and Japan seem to be too backwards to really bother. Maybe something like weight 2 on Lincoln and Mansa, weight 1 on Ram and Zara and 0 on Qin and Toku. I guess the GSpy will just infiltrate Mansa, right?

:confused::confused:

I swore I posted a it is in the queue message last night, but I see no trace of it.

Once again - I got it.
