RR8 - God in Suburbia

Drop some nukes, cap everyone and finish the game ... oh wait, that is against the variant :p

I'm for using that barb city to a little mil. exercise instead of letting it grow to size two. We have a settler on the area and no better spot to put it than where the barb city is :p

Obviously, the next tech is the rolling stones one ( oops, the flying stones :D ). I still haven't thought out how to make a good bargain out of CS, but we could net calendar atleast IIRC . after that ... no idea .maybe we might not even tech at all for a while ... or we might grab AP after all?

Besides that, make barracks , make preats , make catapults and scout for HC SoD. HC is not one of withdrawing a "hands full" without getting into war, so depending exactly of when he started his preps , he might be already on the move .

Took some eeper look into the save and once again I'm asking mysel why the hell is cuma once again building chicken pizza??? :gripe: And could anyone explain to me why we're running spies in cumae and rome??

About the barb city: at least we should wait for the neccessary troops to take the city. Meanwhile it might be an idea to settle on the incence north of the barb city and use the second settler for refounding a city on that spot.
And Joao is willing to give Med+Mon+Calendar+10:gold: for CS! I thing it's worth to take it as he won't be our first target anyway.
As the team wants to go the war-route I'd go for metalcating-->machinery next!

The spies is clearly a governor deed ... I guess I should had looked better. Same for Chichen pizza ( probably was queued and I overlooked it )
I didn't remove it from the queue. :dunno:

Are Praets contemporary with Macemen? I never play as Rome.

Then mc -> machinery works for me. Given that HC is weeehorn and we have effectively no military, some Praets and Maces would be pretty nice.

I guess MC-Machinery is one of the few paths that make sense for us.

We still could use more Workers, especially if we're going to settle more of the now usable spots with CS. 3S of Cumae, 3E of Antium, 3S of Rome are spots that might give more than they'd take with enough chain irrigation. At least the two former. Tons of chaining and forests make our current workers overworked, not to mention we're already working unimproved tiles. Should generally avoid those and run scientists instead where possible. Hence Arretium could use a Library before a Rax for example, or alternatively 3 more mines (which we don't have the workers for in the short term). And yeah spies should be fired, especially in Rome, we don't need any more GSpies. Could build a Temple there to run another Priest.

Ragnar and GK first to Theology? This game is weird...

Market in Antium for the shrine wouldn't be a bad idea either. Neither would be spreading the shrine faith more, we have okayish production though most of it is diverted for military means for now.

Will try to squeeze in a set this evening but if I don't make it, Thy can take it after all and then skip me till coming Sunday...

Played a set. Built more workers, some praets, even catapults and infra of course. Unqueued Chicken Pizza to make Thy happy. :p

Started by changing civics. Didn't get more input on slavery or caste besides bureau, so went with caste, because we Romans don't use slaves.

Made the deal with Joao after some turns. Waited to see if I could get something better, but I just lost us the 10 gold bonus. :D And the picture. Was CS for monarchy, calendar, meditation.

Remember the red fist of the Incans? He chose a rather inconvenient punch bag. For him that is. And no, we're not going to help him out of the mess he got himself in to.

Then the Portuguese decided that they wanted to get closer to the water by settling 2 silly towns rather close by. Hence decided to settle 3S of Cumae and go for the barb town as soon as we could. When our praets were in place got it easily for no losses. It autorazed but got us a worker. The nearby settler resettled it. Indeed it has sea food, thanks to rolo I now know that I have to play civ with the loudspeakers wide open, zoom in closely and listen carefully. :p In both new cities I ran an artist for 2 turns to get the border pop quickly and show Joao who's the boss here (yay for caste and stonehenge).

Fiinally, a tech screen. Finished construction and metal casting. Machinery queued, due in 10.

Oh, I just realized rolo knew there was seafood because he heard the sound.

oh god

Ok.. my thoughts on the set:
  • finish machinery and start with engeneering
  • spread our faith to some more of our cities
  • settle the incense spot on the coast as Joao will take it otherwise
The rest will mostly be some infra as we should at least wait until machinery is in to start building up our attack forces..

I'm going to play tomorrow afternoon so in case someone has some other ideas please let me know!!

I agree with the base plan ... good that HC was wise enough to attack the mongols instead of the Romans ... wait, since when attacking the mongols is wise ? :p Anyway, with that we can focus on grapping some land to the east.

Too bad that the tech table is completely dull ... bah, do they really need to tech all the same way ? :p

P.S Atleast 10 g in the bank, for heavens sake .... :D

Finally I found the time for playing. Here's the report of the calm builders set:

IT:
Some MM had to be done. Mostly hiring some scientists.

700AD:
Khan came asking to join the war against the Incans: Hmmm, NO! The answer did't made him very happy. He's annoyed right now.

720AD:
Finally Hanni finished the Chicken Pizza and the 54 gold will be welcome!

780AD:
Hurray Khan build his shrine:

800AD:
Hanni canceled our iron deal and wasn't willing to trade it for anything we could offer. But furtunately Machinery finished this turn and Maces do not need iron. So no urgent need to find another deal I think.
Started with engineering.
And sometimes you rather have to be lucky than good:

Finished my set with settling Setia:

Macemen require copper or iron? I never noticed...

Ok, looked at the save ...

Boy, Hannibal is being stingy with his iron, isn't he? :p He just wants all our tradeable resources + 9 gpt for it :faint: ok, we have maces and x-bow open, that makes the iron utility go up, but dear god.... João is a little less expensive, though.

The thing looks good, but we need to put a army faster in the tracks. it is taking way too long to have a decent stack to move against ... anyone, for heavens sake :p

BtW I noticed that João got a GM some turns ago ... can we rip his money somehow as soon as he makes his trade mission? Only thing that we can sell to him is Machinery, that is not a so hot idea :p

We need to take care of the world diplo as well. My biggest concern is the portuguese: they are friendly with Han , so we will get a hit when we attack carthage, but that is somewhat expected . Other thing to notice is if he meddles in the Inca-Mongolia war. he is cautious with GK, so a dogpile is possilbe IIRC.

Techwise... I wonder if we need to tech anything in the nearest future, given that we are preparing for war and already have the minimum techs for it for quite a while or will have in a couple of turns.... Any other tech looks prement in the near future?

By the looks of it we will have a hindu AP ( only ones with theo are GK and Ragnar ). That will not give us issues by now, unless we get a bad roll and get a crusade on top of us ...

A final reminder: han made Chichen Pizza, so we will have + 25% to take down ... I so love that wonder :p Too bad it is a city off-grid ;)

A roster then:
