Hi, I am running civ iv on parallels desktop, or trying to atleast. I succesfully installed civ iv with warlords and bts. Every time I try to start the game I get an error message:

Initialize render failed. Check DirectX Installation, Latest graphics drivers and graphics settings parameters:
-width =1024
-height =768
-flags =0xc
-hwnd =0x20282
-adaptrid =0
-deviceid=3
Error: Creation Failed: Invalid 3d device type.

I alotted 1024mb ram to the Virtual Machine as well as 64mb video memory. I also enabled DirectX shaders option and Hardware accel to the max on my video card.

I use a 2.2 Ghz, 2gb ram, mac pro. I run the newest version of parralels, as I downloaded it from the company's website just yesterday.

I know that this topic has been brought up before, but I would really appreciate any help regarding my personal hardware/config...

Hello, welcome :wavey:

I also run a MacPro, and apart from some minor graphics glitches, I can run Civ4 in Parallels. Let's see what differences might exist between our configs:

1. I have a 2.6GHz 4-core 1st generation MacPro with 4 GBytes RAM. Yours is 2.2GHz, so I assume it's also 1st generation, 4-core. I doubt if the speed has any effect. The won't either, as I also assign 1 GByte to Parallels.

2. I run XP. Are you running Vista? Dunno if that would be an issue, but I expect it eats more of the 1 GByte than XP does.

3. I have a GeForce 7300GT, shortly to be upgraded to GeForce 8800. What card are you running?

4. My Parallels is build 5584. Which build are you running?

5. Have you enabled DirectX in the Parallels settings for your VM? It's in the Display settings in Parallels, not in Windows.
