Running Processes

Is there any way to figure out which running processes (as determined by ctrl+alt+delete and then the processes tab) can be ended without screwing up my comp? I think some slowdown problems might be due to this.

just google for the filenames. that'll usually show you several pages who tell you how important a process is, and if you can kill it without harm

Anything that has a your username next to it besides explorer.exe. tskmgr.exe is the task manager, so ending that just closes the task manager.
