Runtime Error Game Crashes

I've been encountering lots of game crashes since using CivUP v34 and GEM v1.053, where the game suddenly quits (usually at the end of a turn) and dumps me to a Windows Error reporting message. Also, when trying to restart the game from the last autosave, it will crash during the startup process.

Did not experience this problem using earlier versions of CivUP and GEM.

Looking at the LUA logs hasn't shown any consistent error messages, although there do seem to be various runtime errors listed.

These crashes seem to happen whether I also use additional mods or not, so I'm a bit puzzled as to what is causing them. Have recently replaced my power supply and switched to a better video card (GeForce GTX550 Ti), so I don't think those are possible crash contributors.

Is anyone else experiencing crashes like this?

Just saw a moderator response to someone else's post in the Technical Support forum, and it got me to thinking of a possibility.

I have lots of other mods in my Civ-5 MODS folder, but only a very few were actually activated for my current game.

Tried clearing my game cache folder to see if this would eliminate the game crashes but Civ-5 would automatically recopy all the mods I'm subscribed to back into my MODS folder. If I tried to manually delete those other mods, it seemed like it was marking those mods as unsubscribed, so I stopped the manual deletions.

Will I need to actually unsubscribe all other mods, and then reclear my cache folder again? Or is it okay to leave those other mods there, so long as I don't activate them?

In the past only the mods you've activated would be merged together for the current game. Other mods in the folder wouldn't interfere. I don't think that's changed. I am using that same setup with no other mods besides Faster Aviation Animations with no crashes.

The game loads lua code from all mods in the mods folder, even the deactivated mods, which messes up the game. It's important to have only 1 version of each mod in the mods folder. I've had this on the common checklist for a few years, so I think Firaxis can't fix it.

That would explain why I'm getting double events and right-side indicators (only some). Wow, that is really, really lame.
