ryanjames' mods-Civilisations, small and large

I've just realised that my university has a massive library with, likely a lot of history books.

There's even one on the Kingdom of the Isles

Why has it taken me 8 weeks to realise this

I don't want t sound ungrateful, but I'm not sure if I can use it with those colours. The icon I made is a much deeper purple, but the main issue would be that these colours are very similar to my Brunei civ. (only issue really, I'd be happy to use a pinker one otherwise)

The symbol itself does look alot better than the Ouroboros I used ^^

Is this better colour wise?

Don't get your hopes so high, my university also has a huge library, but they haven't updated the history section since the 60s :cringe:

But he gave you the alpha, so you can do what colours you want :P

Edit: Ok, so apparently CivFanatics was showing me an old post even though i clicked on the latest post. So i'm a bit outdated there.

I can imagine how hilariously offensive some of those books are.

A friend of mine once found a history/geography book from the late 1800s, apparently Inuits are the lowest form of human, though it was surprisingly complimentary towards Maori.

Also, thanks for the icon 'The Specialise', and of course thanks to TPang for the thought, running battle royale, and being a generally massive positive role model for the civ v community ^^

Btw, was it you that created the icon for Orry's Kingdom of Mann? So many people helped me with little things on that mod, I honestly can't remember who made it.

I think so! I made it for Hiram a while back, then he passed it onto you. Great to see it went to such good use.

That was the icon for the original Manx civ, the icon for Orry's Kingdom of the Isles was made by The_Specialize IIRC

I think that's how it went. I remember RJ was just going to reuse the original 3-leg symbol, but I suggested either using the coat of arms or putting a shield behind the 3-leg symbol.

It was I who made the icon. based of shaglio's idea

I enjoy playing around with icons trying to represent a Civilization in only 2 color's and a symbol is quite interesting for me.

Anyways I'm looking forward to seeing the Toltecs made. Them and the Mixtecs are 2 of the Central American civs I want to play as the most after reading about them a couple months back.

I'll be sure to update various credits.

A Mixtec civ would be pretty cool, but if I ever returned to Mehico again, I'd probably do a Teotihuacano civ.

I've also been thinking a bit about the Volga bulgars, again, another awesomely obscure civ that I think does have the potential to be a civ.

Some updates:

I am back in the Isle of Man a week early as, for those who do not know, Lancaster and Cumbria have been devastated and flooded whole uni has lost power completely, somehow managed to make my way back by pushing through throngs of international students to buses, to wandering the streets of Preston.

But I'm back now, and obviously have some more time on my hands. I've been able to get a more or less functioning version of the Toltecs up, there are some balances I'd like to make, but the Lua is working fine. I'm awaiting on all the UI models and some other stuff, but, things are moving quickly it seems!

Probably a good time to think up some events and decisions

Decisions-Manufacture pulque

Costs, probably a hefty amount of gold, reward would be a copy of sugar in the capital and +1 science from plantations.

Historically Xochitl and her father invented a mesoamerican beverage called pulque made from the agave plant.

Form Women's battalion

Again, likely costs a sum of gold, spawns 3-4 pikemen and a great general.

Events

Civil war against Xochitl's rule

Barbs maybe?

I was also thinking of an event maybe concerning when Xochitl attempts to leave the palace, but is swayed by the emperor's promise to make her son, Maeconetzin emperor, like 'I'll stay if you make Maeconetzin emperor' or 'I'll stay if you install me as a regent empress right now'

Woha. Women's battalion sounds much more fascinating ten a few units. How about giving them the medic promotion, or something to spice it up a bit?

#conservatives

Is there anyone willing to write some E and D then?

I've been thinking about doing a Gupta civilisation at one point, how is this design?

UA-'Gain golden age points when a great person is born, 20% science during golden ages'

UU-'Steel bowman' Composite or crossbow replacement that requires iron, but has relevant bonus' like golden age points from kills, or science from kills etc.

UB-'Citrisala' Library with a scientist slot.

Ggggggg I have tons of ideas for Gupta!!!! I absolutely adore those guys!

Have you ever thought of doing a Roman Era civ? On the design thread, I've made Roman Province Civs of Hispalia (Baetica [My Personal Favorite and the most historical one I have in terms of uniques], Tarraconensis, and Lusitania) and Gaul (Lugdunensis, Aquitania, Belgica, and Narbonensis). Would you be interested in them? I also have Massalia designed if you might be interested in.

EDIT: Also Caucasian Iberian and Albania are a really interesting idea. Though I haven't done my design yet but it won't take me wrong.

Or Something from the Indonesian Archipelago might be up to your liking.. Like my buddy BenZL said in his signature "Interested in creating civilization from the Malayan Archipelago? Indonesia is just like India, a collection of several interesting civilization that fused into one because of colonialism. It is more than Javanese Majapahit or Malay Srivijaya; there's civilization such as Sundanese, Dayak, Macassan, etc."

Gupta seems cool. Liking the sorta Great People focus. Seems really appropriate with them^^

Could I try interesting you in the Marajoara? They were a complex matriarchal pre-Columbian people who lived in Northern Brazil, famous for their advanced pottery, best known for being the inspiration behind the name and appearence of Majora's Mask. They were also a major problem for the Portuguese, considering they fought fiercely to defende their home island strategically located at the beginning of the Amazon River. I have some ideas about leader, uniques, etc. as well if you're interested.

Ryan, I have this for Gupta:

UA: Golden age of India
:c5culture: Writer and :c5science: scientist specialists generate :c5goldenage: golden age points, and grant each other's yields during :c5goldenage: golden ages. :greatwork: Great works grant :c5greatperson: great person points when you conquer a city.

UU: Ratna
Replaces great writer. Unlike it, grants a lump sum of a yield to the nearest city when consumed. :greatwork: great works created by a Ratna will yield +2 :c5science: science.

UU: Steel bowman
Replaces composite bowman. Much stronger(10 :c5strength:, 14 :c5rangedstrength:) than the unit it replaces, the steel bowman requires iron but deals 50% more damage to any other unit that requires it.
