ryanjames' mods-Civilisations, small and large

best known for being the inspiration behind the name and appearence of Majora's Mask.

YES

That alone is reason enough for me to do this civ (I promise to make this my first south american civ!)

I will make the icon Majora's mask, because obvious reasons.

When I was doing research for Brunei, I did notice that Indonesia has been host to dozens of kingdoms, I will investigate more in the future, but I don't want to take on too many designs/civs at once.

Not so sure about doing a Roman province, it just doesn't interest me that much.

And lastly, an update, the Toltecs are very near to completion, the only major things that need sorting are E and D, and the construction graphics for the UI look kindof weird, so I might try and substitute it with wonder construction graphics or something.

Then I hope to begin proper work on the Guanches.

Glad to see you're interested. I don't think that icon is such a good idea though. As I said, they were only inspiration. There are, however, lots of common patterns they used to represent faces (just google marajoara) and they could make a nice icon. Unless of course that was a joke.
Now for some ideas: The leader would be Piyé (actually the only choice, I believe), who united the tribes in the region to stand up against the Portuguese. There are no pictures of him, however, so you'll need to be creative. Just some important things: they used to wear clay cod pieces like these to cover their pubic regions and also used body painting. Of course, as expected, they also used feathers. I can get some reference pics if you want.
They could have a UI, the Teso, a sort of mound, buildable only on hills and granting food and either faith or culture (they were used for agriculture and as relgious burial sites). I can also try to get some reference pictures for them.
The UU would be the Mapuá Warrior. Much like the Mohawk Warrior from the Iroquois, they were members of the most militaristic tribe in the region, and also the one Piyé was a part of. I don't have any specific ideas for its ability, but they moved fastly across rivers and jungles and destroyed various Portuguese caravels, which should be good for inspiration. For their appearance, well, imagine a South American native. That's it.
I can try coming up with some more stuff later, but that's what I have for now.

Damnit, I thought I would be able to release the Toltecs today, but I've just discovered two more bugs in the civ's abilities.

Finally, the Toltecs are in a releasable state, so enjoy!

As usual, if I missed anyone in the credits be sure to tell me, and kul, if you want to be directly added as a contributor, then you'll have to friend me on steam (username:ryanjames). You're mentioned in the credits of course, but you might want the civ to actually appear as one you contributed to on the workshop.

Finally, a Toltec civ! Now we need a Teotihuacan civ too. :D

Woo, congrats on the release! Apparently I cant add you as a friend (and many other options) since I literally havent bought anything on Steam, so lets just leave it that way for now. Thanks again for asking me to contribute^^

Indeed, if I do another Mesoamerican civ, it may well be a Teotihuacano one.

Hm, could the UA be reworded as "Great Works of art contribute 5% of production towards land units in the city they are located". The way it's worded right now is kinda confusing.

Also, the Great artist points from the UA are generated in the capital, closest city or something else?

The experience points generated by the uniques are for newly trained units, right?

It deposits the points in the capital, and the UA probably does need rewording, some people have brought up other points about it.

The xp is for newly trained units.

Thanks for the release! What else do you have after Sogdiana and the Guanches? I'm curious to see what else you're thinking.

There's a lot of civs I'm interested in doing, I might finish 'Greater Europe's The Gaels', but I'd also like to do The Gupta, Elam, Volga Bulgaria or south american civs like Marajoara etc.

I'd also like to do another African civ, I've been thinking Senegal, Uganda/Buganda or Rwanda.

Interesting. If you need help with city names I can possibly help. I'm thinking of starting to do city names for civs so I can help a little in the community.

DID SOMEBODY SAY AFRICAAAA???

Er, yes, yes they did. Calmgrace is now calm. But yeah, if you need a hand with some design work, I have a thread full of the flaming things. =]

Pass me a link to the thread, I'll take a gander, though it may be some time before I do an African civ.

Or, a mainland one anyway, I've got the Guanches to do!

Speaking of which, I have a newish design.

UA-Bensemer

Longer (or more potent) WLTKD, whenever a citizen is born, a source of sheep, deer or Dogo Canario may spawn on a hill tile (with some sort of cap). Dogo Canario yields +2 food and acts as a luxury.

Mencey is unchanged

I'm planning on making the UU a spearman replacement with something that loosely emulates the Guanche practise of pole vaulting over the harsh canarian terrain. I'll probably reuse an edited version of the Garamantes unit model. So, some interesting hill/movement bonus and the great generals promotion I imagine.
