ryanjames' mods-Civilisations, small and large

Dear God, adding Events and Decisions support is so irritating and cumbersome

And that's why I don't bother.

It's mainly because people in the steam comments are guaranteed to make a fuss if I don't.

But then again, it doesn't make much difference, I always get a couple people ask despite the fact I literally post screenshots of the support.

Especially if you support :p. But still, I know I appreciate it when a mod supports E&D. Whenever I sit down to play a game and it isn't because I'm testing a mod (or trying one of LastSword's civs) I almost always choose civs with support for E&D among other stuff such as CulDiv.

You know, it would've been possible to release the secret civ today if it wasn't for the fact that the modbuddy is about as stable as high energy heavy nuclei.

Ugh, this mod was a real pain to finish, but at least it's (almostish) over, so here you go!

The elusive secret civ has been released, drumroll please!

Just a heads up, the events don't seem to be working, and I haven't a clue why, I would really appreciate it if someone could take a look.

The decisions seemed to work for me. I got the writer, and a Golden Age started. I didn't play long enough to have any Events drop).

I did get this error in the Lua log, though:

Spoiler :
Code:
Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\Beowulf's Geatish Empire (v 1)\Lua/Geatish_Trait.lua:14: attempt to index local 'player' (a nil value)

Decisions work fine, the events just don't seem to show up at all. We also spotted that bug, but the trait worked and we don't know why it's occurring, so we just left it in.

I'm guessing it's related to when there is no killer - for example, when a Settler founds a city or a Great Person is expended. I would think you could add a line some thing like

Code:
if player ~= nil then
right before
Code:
if player:GetCivilizationType() == GameInfoTypes["CIVILIZATION_RGEATS"] and player:IsAlive() then
and that should take care of the error - although, it's unlikely to be causing an issue.

Congrats on your latest release! Looking forward to the others, especially Elam and the Guptas!

Not sure if I will ever get around to releasing either civs, especially Elam considering I haven't been able to create a design in, literally a year.

Next civ will be the Vainakhs, and then a Manx update.

I'm thinking of doing a collection of British civs (including the IOM obviously) for Civ VI.

Whoa, was not expecting the Geats. Great job making that one a nice surprise. The one thing I'm concerned about is the UA though. It seems like it would be a minor add-on to a much more powerful UA, but it's the entire UA. +3 exp points is almost nothing, and not getting any from defeated barbarians makes it even weaker. The UA needs to be strengthened a ton.

I disagree. It could be made a little bit better (+4), but it does give a lot of xp in the long run if used correctly. Think of it as an alternative way to get xp.

An alternative way to get xp in the long run is hardly a solid UA though. Plus, the way this UA does it is quite ineffective. To take full advantage of such a small amount of xp, you would have to have a ton of units surrounding any unit you want to fight. But if you have a bunch of units massed together, that's mainly just for taking cities. Simply fighting hordes of another civ's soldiers one after another doesn't happen in anything besides domination-only deity games. For any other sort of game, the tiny bit of extra xp isn't worth the hassle required to get it. Like I said originally, the entire UA is like a very minor add-on to a powerful UA. In order to make the current UA stand solid just by itself, you'd have to up the amount of xp to something massive like 20 or 30. I realize that would break domination-only deity games, but as it stands the UA is practically worthless for anything other than those games.

So how do you like China's UA? Or France's?

They are both good UAs which are even more specialized and they are in the vanilla game.
