S-02 Learning to Ride

I picked up Warlords last week. I played one game on Monarch with Ramses and it was a cakewalk, but I've gotten slaughtered on a couple of Emperor starts.

It's a real pain in the rear that to switch from Vanilla to Warlords or vice versa you need to change disks. Stupid copy protection. My friend bought the downloadable version so he doesn't need to manually change the CDs. I'd recommend trying that, though he didn't get any docs with - not that those weren't full of typos.

mmmm where is all strategy ideas DOH......

Well the more I look at it we are in good position to attack Saladin. I like to go for the strong first but he's going to be tough. Now we have lots of room when it comes to domination some 20% so taking cities is till doable before conquest. I have this bug and want to see that pretty movie at the end which I have never seen. I know it's tedious but we can move the research beeling for Industrialism. Now that's something I love even with the tedious MMing. Tanks baby they rock. Eat Rifles for breakfast. (Too bad they aren't Panzers)

So here it someone suggested "the next player" decide on conquest/domination. Ok my favourite past time, just totally destroying beautiful wonderful cities and seeing the little pile afterwards. Evil aye but that's what I love burn, baby burn. Holy cities/wonders who cares fry it all. We are a bunch warmongering Psychos so let's up it a notch. I say go for Mecca and raze that city, Holy city and shrine. Every city afterward, no fuss, no muss out of the way. What I hate about MMing is that popup at the beginning and the workers. Once railroad comes they are automated baby no more fussing with those guys. So getting more cities just means more pop-ups and our science is dwindling as well as our economy. What not just get the loot from razing and move the science along.

I was surprised to see how far along Saladin is so we need to strike at him before he gets to infantry and tanks. Whatever it takes and razing Mecca would be a crippling blow.

So that is my game plan, play let's raze all the cities and see all the pretty piles of rubble.

Unfortunately Tokugawa's culture makes it awkward for us. I think we should declare on him too and take out some big cities so we can maneuver. We have a large contingency near Tokyo and could go after Baghad from there but whatever the players preference. Three frigates are on the way to where the army in the snow is and needs to bombard there. Pretty crappy odds there with defenses up.
Supply lines are flowing and having London build West Point to get highly experienced Cossacks and ships.

Saladin is beaten as the rest of his cities are terrible. Japan isn't that strong and we have a enough to raze some of his important cities.

Whatever way you go have fun, it's a game oh yeah......

Well done Cosmichail, i like it you went for conquest:thumbsup: . Did you need 2 cossacks for every rifle? Think it's a good idea to declare on Saladin (EDIT: Toku), but let next player decide. Saladin(EDIT:Toku) hasn't even RP, a requisite for Rifle's. We can use GE for ironworks and westpoint (?). Don't know how long it takes before we can build the pentagon, game will be finished maybe.

You mean declare on Tokugawa nest pas? Also re the rifle you mean Toku too. Pentagon might be doable after sci meth we can research Assembly Line. Westpoint will be done soon but Ironworks somewhere would be good.

Mecca was brutal lost six cossacks, but we have lots with more on the way.

I'm up but can't get this until tomorrow so I'll take a skip if next up can get it before then. Otherwise we'll be taking a short intermission where we can discuss tactics.

Tactics are: Kill Everyone.

aaaahhhhh just the way I like it. Since we are horse people we must love nature. So just like ecoterroist in civ II (forget the name right at the moment) and wipe everything out for the sake of Gaia.

Good job Cosmichail

Keep the cossacks flow pouring on the world. I fear I may not have a turnset again or would I have to finish last egyptian cities ?

I received my warlords copy today but I'd rather not start a game if I want to get some sleep tonight

:scan:  :crazyeye: :scan:

Well, I didn't play civ2 so I guess that is why I don't get a word

Boy everyone is getting Warlords. I was holding back as I bought my game for this month (TOCA3)... but all the SG's are going to start switching... decisions, decisions.

I started by signing a ceasefire with Saladin as we didn't really have anything to take from him without first getting rid of Toku. So I make my task to take out Toku.

I declared on Toku on my 1st turn and took 13 or so of his cities during my turns. I razed them all as I too think conquest is the way to go and we've got enough cities already. Keeping any of them will just slow us down.

I lost Essen to a Toku SOD at one stage as I had all the units in attacking positions and he stuck a big stack in. Could have got back I guess but thought that it doesn't matter as I can get it back soon enough. Got it back near the end of my turnset and there is a big stack resting and recuperating there.

Toku has about 2 cities left I think and there are a number of stacks ready to take on Hatty and Saladin. I was too busy taking out Toku to set the next player up perfectly but I think it is a reasonable goal to finish in the next 10 turns.

I finished Sci-Meth, Democracy and started on Biology. I revolted to Emancipation too as it was starting to bite with the WW.

Sorry for no pictures but this took hours to play and I want to go to bed. Having a small baby in the house is killing my sleep at nights and hopefully tomorrow I can get a bit of a sleep in. And maybe then I'll post some pictures of where we are.

Here's the save: http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads12/Learning_to_Ride_AD-1800.Civ4SavedGame

Kikinit, hope you had fun with all the killing !

Mike, if you are able to finish this in your turnset, would you mind making a save before taking the last city ? I want to see that conquest movie !!

Well done everyone :goodjob:. We built 152 cossacks! And we only lost 50, so at the end of the game we had 102 cossacks gallopping around . We only really played with 2 units the whole game - HA and Cossack. Not what I was aiming for, but I enjoyed the game anyway. We kept up our super-fast speed from S-01 and managed not to lose any team members - thanks to everyone for that. To be honest when I told Asperge he couldn't leave the SG I thought he would tell me where to shove it, but it worked out and I'm glad I did.

I'm not going to start S-03 yet because SGOTM-2 is about to start. S-03 will probably begin in a few weeks when some of my other SGs have finished. Needless to say it won't be on monarch difficulty. Way too easy. If there's enough interest it will be on Warlords, but I don't mind staying with standard Civ4 if that's what we want.
