S-05 Beat the Clock

I'm back now.

I set some cities that needed border pops to build culture on my turn. They are still building culture after their pops after 2 more turnsets! That's a bit lazy team, we need to mm our cities more often than that (ie more than never).
Checked the save and I was correct: sooooo's culture builds were cancelled, but the ones I set - Thanae, Cordoba, Seville(?) - were not.

@Sweetacshon - the trick with culture builds is that they're infinite, so I track 'em by noting the concerned city and then checking for border pop messages.

I need a skip. Thought I'd find time to play today but I'm just too busy right now.

I can play friday night late.

My buddy dropped by and i hadn't expected that. I'll be able to play tomorrow when i get back from hiking if thats cool with you. Otherwise i can swap. sorry about the confusion.

1730-1750

Inherited Turn
As suggested, I stop building culture in those cities currently building culture.
I order the construction of two work-boats for Basra and Muscat.
Mansura starts working rice.
I renegotiate trades with FDR.

Buids
I start building a few factories with the advent of assembly line.
In 1734, our nation begins an ambition drafting project as bakers, street-sweepers, office clerks and professional dog-walkers are conscripted into service.
Mount Rushmore is begun in our capital.

Research
In 1734, we begin research into fascism. Mt. Rushmore would be a major coup for us. After fascism: biology for faster recovery from the draft.

Civics
I made no changes to civics.

Diplomacy
Roosevelt has his man fix me a martini. Ahhh… … now that’s refreshing.

War
In the first turn (1732AD) I take Fustat with the “Destroyer“. This is the last Arabian city and contrary to the sign posted, I decide to keep the city. Otherwise the Americans will just resettle it anyway.
In 1750AD, we declare war on Victoria. We immediately take Oxford and move other troops into position to threaten other English cities.

Economy
I blew a large part of our budget upgrading our most experienced troops. Many troops remain un-promoted though (typically these have less experience).
After renogiating open borders with Roosevelt, our per turn income jumps dramatically. I am sure his did too, but we need access to his lands to get to the English.

Foreign Powers
Roosevelt completes Broadway the turn after he gets a great engineer. Victoria’s golden age begins in 1750 with the birth of a great artist.

Other notes:
A workboat is on its way to Fustat on go-to orders (coming around the Arabian peninsula from the south).

A great prophet (Sojourner Truth) is born is Rome. He is on his way to Barcelona to establish the Jewish shrine therein.

And here is the save.

Played 10 turns. Mostly easy turns, leaving the tough ones for Swiss Pauli

Started out by tweaking a few things. I cancelled most courthouse builds, because in State Property they only get us 3gpt. During my turns I started quite a lot of factories. Also drafted a lot. Not sure the deal to sell Roosevelt horses was wise. He'll build cavs, and upgrade them to gunships almost for free. I cancelled them when I was able to on my last turn.

EDIT: Also I didn't build the Jewish shrine. With so many cities, I believe the prophet would be better used for a golden age.

So I razed 1 english city and captured 2 more. She has no sources of Oil or Uranium now - sweet. No tanks for you, Victoria! Haven't seen any marines yet, though she probably has some somewhere.

Gathered our troops together and moved them through American lands.

Vicky send 1 attacking stack through america which ran into ours. With unpleasant results for the English.

Situation now: The selected stack at the bottom is outside York and the stack I'm hovering over is between Roosevelt's Oil and Wheat.

The power graph is looking nice!

Techwise we finished railroad (mainly railroading our supply routes, not mines/lumbermills so far) and almost finished electricity. We need tanks, fighters, bombers and battleships. All 3 require combustion (for oil) so that should be next tech. Think most english cities should be razed for now.

Got it for tomorrow.

With so many cities, I believe the prophet would be better used for a golden age.
Looked at the save and I propose to speed the GA by assigning artists at Utica. It could use a draft holiday for the 8-9 turns it'll take to produce a non-prophet (1% chance and falling). Would help to get all those factories built.

I see Roosy has surplus oil to trade. If there's only 1 surplus should I trade it in to stop Vicky begging/trading it? We have a bunch of luxuries that the American lacks. Wouldn't give him horses or copper, though.

Good idea.

I would be against this. He wants about 5 resources for the oil. I'm also not sure that selling him ivory and furs is a good idea. With so many happy resources in our lands and Mt Rushmore, we have little happy problems and don't want him getting to far ahead in tech - maybe cancel/renegotiate these deals. I don't think vicky has enough to give to Roosevelt for him to give her oil.

Roosy and Vicky are Friendly, so there's a chance (and I've had it happen before) that she will successfully beg Oil from Roosy. We have 110 turns until war with America, so trading him luxuries, only to cancel them in 50 turns might actually hurt him more than help him.

I hadn't checked, but if it is more than one then there's no point as I assume the price would be too high.

Well, Vicky didn't manage to beg any Oil yet. But she did manage to...lose some cities. I wondered at first what sooooo meant by 'leaving the tough ones' for me. But then saw that York was on a hill and had a CG2 Infantry on guard. Lovely. After making a city round I hit enter and promptly lost an Infantry at York, killing one Artillery. The collateral damage was annoying, but one of our best Infantry was fit to fight. And promptly lost at 75.7% win odds. What does a good General do now? Turn to Lucky Cannon (now an Arty) who wins at 65%. The RNG continues to be R for the rest of the attack, but:

I decided against an XP spinkle from the GG, so I attached him to an Artillery which is now CR3, Drill III (and 2 XP from Drill IV). Along with The Destroyer, Cuman's defenders had little chance:

With Vicky turtling (aside from a settler group), we proceed to raze Cherokee and then (with some good fortune) raze Canterbury too. We could have kept Canterbury but for Vicky's unpleasant Artillery stack being too close for comfort (desert hill):

Vicky resettled York (now Dover) and will sneak a CG Infantry in there during her turn; we have the Evil Arty stack outside it. I'm hoping Vicky's Artillery stack will attack us in the open, as I think we should keep her remaining core cities. There's a few units up in America and another Infantry and Arty on the way to help the razing of these cities.

I played 8 turns as this seemed a good handover point. The next player will have 7 turns of GA to enjoy, with Industrialism and Oil online in two turns. Rocketry would be my tech choice thereafter as we have some good Cavs to upgrade to Gunships.

Looks like good progress in our fifth (!) war Swiss.

Regarding next tech, we need some long-term planning. I wouldn't go for gunships right now, because they won't be ready to face vicky. How many years per turn is it from 1800-1900? If we know that we know how many turns we have until the american war. And how we should proceed.

For military builds, tanks and infantry will obsolete. But arti and destroyers will not, so should probably be prioritised. We may also be able to give Utica some time off from drafting, and hire some scientists instead.

Roster:

Swiss Pauli
Sweetacshon - UP
Immaculate - On Deck

Well 1900 is 150 turns from the end, so we can calculate the turns back fairly easily. Should be around 100 now (without checking the save).

We're building Arty mainly and not drafting because of suiciding/obsoletion concerns. As far as research goes, we'll need to drop the % anyway after Combustion as we can't sustain deficit research.

Utica got a draft holiday, but I starved it to speed the GA, so it's only now growing its pop back, and I agree we should hire some specialists, as opposed to drafting more Infantry.
