Saints 1 - A Genuine Prick

Well... I didn't get a change to smash Egypt as much as I'd liked, but I did find other means to have fun nevertheless :groucho:

On the home front I started my round with a whipping frenzy. Our citizens gladly gave their lives for observatories and other useful stuff.

Luckily I managed to found a sleeping settler. Pre-improved land was just waiting to be settled.

On the war front...

saints039.jpg

This only took couple of sneaky keshik attacks, rest of our fleet jumped instantly back to galleons and headed for Egyptian capital.

But don't you just hate this event? :F I didn't want to defy this as the happiness penalty is brutal, especially combined with war weariness.

saints040.jpg

So I had to be really quick in doing this :) The city is keeped and can be used as a point for reinforcements.

saints041.jpg

Banking was finished and I continued to research Paper. I even remembered to revolt to merchantilism couple of turns later :)

But we gotta do something with our army, right? The razings earned us a Great General, but I was unsure on what to do with him. Personally I would just go for a super city razer

saints045.jpg

Meanwhile we built another city.

saints046.jpg

And got a nice little useless event for us as the espionage is mistakenly disabled in this game :)

saints047.jpg

Now we also own Sumerian capital, weehoo!

saints048.jpg

And thats it! We have one settler heading for a suggested city #1. I left the research to zero so the next player can decide where to continue. I suggest Education followed with a beeline to Rifling :D

saints049.jpg

We should eliminate Sumeria and finish up with Egypt once ready. Conquest seems like a fitting goal for our theme, doesn't it? :)

I was completely focused on infra, but another round of troop buildup is in order.

Have fun!

Sorry about the sleeping settler :mischief: I didn't want to use him as I was more worried about improving the economy and another city would've hurt a bit much at the time.

Will get a look at the save when I'm home from work

Notes from inspecting the save:
- Beshbalik was building a colosseum (or had been before a settler was queued). :nono:
- Same with Tabriz
- Rest of everything looked pretty good, I moved some tiles being worked around to do some more growth in a few places, and more production in a few others, just depending.

Turn summary:
Played a bit over 20 turns (sorry if that's too many, will try to lower that next set). Settled 2 new cities, one in the suggested spot, a second to grab the double-gold location. That made our economy  ... however, we had enough cash in reserve to let me just run a deficit until I could make it better :) Military-wise, I built a nice chunk of units, most of which are now sitting in Thebes ready to wreak havoc on Egypt again. Also, I razed 3 more of Gilgamesh's cities - if we want to take vassals, he's plenty ready to capitulate. I've had our workers building a lot of workshops, with the thought that we can get Replaceable Parts and run Caste System to have them give us some major production (also can run SP later to have them +1 food).

Pic summary:
Spoiler :
Ramesses makes a demand...yeah, right.

Then, he tries to get his city back via the AP...

You can see what I thought of that:

Silly me didn't take pics of my city razing :mischief:

After our settlers crashed the economy, we got a nice Great Scientist and I used him for this:

Here's what we can do if we want to let Gilgamesh be a vassal:

Our army assembled in Thebes:

Our world:

I started teching Philosophy with the idea of getting Liberalism afterwards.

Not quite happy with our army yet, needs more siege, which I've been pumping out of Kara and a couple other places...but, what we've got is what we've got.

Last, note that the deal for Gilg's capitulation isn't what HE offers, its just what I managed to finally talk him up to (saved first, tried asking for a TON and then removing things until he said yes as a testing method since I wasn't sure if we wanted vassals or not).

Save attached!

Personally I hate vassals and does Genghis really want to share his power in any way? :)

As I mentioned before, I suggest we grab Rifling with Liberalism. Then we could sidetrack to Gunpowder and Nationalism and start a drafting frenzy. Do we even need to research anything after that? :)

Sorry guys. I...kind of lost all want to play Civ lately and didn't want to make up some excuse for you guys to skip me so...yeah, I kind of just didn't show up. ^^; Sorry. I'll be ready next round.

After: :D

Played 19 turns. Declared on Ramesses on turn 0. Gilgy gave me 90g + WM + Monotheism + Drama to wait until turn 11 to finish him off. On turn 15 Ramsesses was finished, and Gilgy was finished on the next turn.

Razed 11 cities, and kept Illinois. Only losses were some Cats and Trebs, 2 Maces, and an Elephant. The remainder of our army has rendezvoused in Otrar.

Notes:

--Next player has a couple of barb situations to be aware of on turn 0. There's a Horse Archer running around near Ning-Hsia, with little defense in the area, and near Uruk there's a barb Longbow against our Longbow in the city and a very wounded Combat 4 Mace (got redlined taking out the first Longbow).

--A very smart previous player ran 3 priests in Thebes, and on my last turn we got a GP. A Caravel is taking him to Ulundi to build the Hindu shrine for us. I snuck in Missionaries at home in anticipation of this, and our home continent is almost entirely Hindu now.

--Techs: Learned Philosophy, put all but 2 turns into Liberalism, then switched to Gunpowder. Neither of the remaining civs has paper yet, so we still have plenty of time.

--Didn't build any new cities. Workers mainly did some chopping outside of BFCs and boring maintenance work. FP in the Roman territory can be whipped when that city grows in a few turns.

--Keep an eye on Wang. We're his worst enemy, he's not that far behind us in power, and the Roman territory is in his back yard. Otherwise we seem in pretty good shape.

Great round, loved especially the before and after pics :D

Btw. Don't we have a Great Wall or what's this fuzz about barbarians? :)

Looks like I'm not able to play after all. I'm also starting my christmas holidays tomorrow and will be back 29.12.

How 'bout this for a roster then, assuming SR is game to go?

Roster:
==========
radiofreestl - just played
yena - MIA
Meiz - skip
Saint Rising - up now
Trynthlas - on deck

Most logical path? Finish off the others. So...we're off to fight!

For the first five turns, I built stuff up. Takes a bit of time for the troops to sail where we need them, I suppose.

Civ4ScreenShot0007.jpg

It was upon my sixth turn that I had the ships next to the landing. So, its time to kill Wang. On the eight turn, I destroyed the first Korean city, as well as got another Warlord. I'm sending him to the west coast of our continent so we can send him over to Korean/Viking land.

Upon my twelth turn, we get Gunpowder. Hehehehe, we'll be able to use it on our Viking friend, methinks. Perhaps even the Korean...and Liberalism possible with one turn of research? Awesome, let's hit that.

Civ4ScreenShot0007.jpg

Their counter stack to our counter stack. Pikemen and such make me sad panda. Let's see how well we hold out. We survived. Woo! Liberalism taken, and our free technology is....replaceable parts, and then I set us to take rifling. Gunpowder will be very useful.

Civ4ScreenShot0009.jpg

Done on 14th turn.

Later at my 18th turn, Mr. Ragnar asked for...something. I don't remember. Obviously, I gave him a big . .. .. .. . YOU.

On my final turn, I burned down one last city. There is a ship heading up to the Korean area to bring us our second general. There are tons of troops on our mainland if they're needed. Have fun, whoever's next!

Played 20 turns. Unfortunately we had lots of troops, but very little siege, so I didn't make as much progress as I could have otherwise. However, I've now rectified that problem ;)

Summary:
- Killed lots of barbs in the former Egypt/Sumeria territory, workers are by Uruk rebuilding stuff, and a pair are on the way to Illinois to do the same
- Razed 2 Korean cities, captured their capitol
- Transported almost all extra troops to the war front
- Built a crapload of trebs (we have 5 galleons full of trebs on their way to seoul)
- Techs: got Rifling, Theocracy, started Chemistry
- Now building rifles anywhere that we're not building infrastructure (initially to replace defenders, but sent some of the first round to board the ships for heading to korea)
