Is there a known formula how the police interprets the law?

I have attacked and shot people a few times near the police without them reacting. Sometimes when I shoot in self defense, the police react - AGAINST me.

Is it randomness or am I allowed to shoot under certain circumstances?
(I am of course not talking about vigilante missions.)

Consider it a counter to the amount of times you've violated basic traffic laws and not been attacked ;)

I've found San Andreas police pretty lax when it comes to enforcing, well, me. The bulk of my unintended police chases have come about from there being an officer in the area I'm attacking in, or because I accidentally bump one of their cars.

Bah, we know how well the police (or any NPC) follows the traffic laws. :p

It's hilarious at times. Recently an ambulance came to help a wounded person. When the doctors were done, they drove the ambulance completely over another car. The cops with Rangers do the same.

Another time, the ambulance pancaked a pedestrian when they were done with a patient. No one came to help the pedestrian.

Most of my chases happens because I use too much ammo.
The 1-star chases is easy to escape.

The 2-star chases are worse. I escape and hide in remote areas, or go for a long swim if the sea is not too far away.

The 3-star chases sucks. I managed to get away only once (by car) :king: . And it was before I knew about the golden stars that can be found. It was also before I knew saving the game will reset the wanted-level.

There are respray garages that get rid of your wanted level :)
I know, but they are not open yet.

Have you tried to shake of the police during a 3-star chase? I mean no respray, no bribes. Manouvring car only.

I think it's next to impossible, but I did it once. :king:

Another Reason why I love San Andreas, unlike Vice City where u shoot someone where no one sees u still get cops on u, but in San Andreas, if u kill someone and no one sees it, u get off scott free!
But, if u get 1 star on u from killin someone, it means nothin, jus drive or walk it off, and b4 u kno it, itll go away, but if it has 2 stars, u can put in the Police Level Down Cheat Code, or jus spray paint ur car (or finish a quick mission)

....Cheat codes, and how can u bribe cops in the game?

However, something I hate about San Andreas is that if you use remote-controlled explosives, even if you are behind a building or on the top of a skyscraper, if the part that exploded is near the police, you'll still get a (high!) wanted level, which is stupid. There was no way they could possibly see who detonated it.

Could they see or have a witness to whom planted it though?

You know you dont need to make 7 different San Andreas threads. Just make one and ask all your questions there. Or even better go to GameFAQs San Andreas board, a board made especially for that game.

Use machine pistols and you get police stars quickly.
Use a pistol and you can shoot a few people before you get wanted.
Slit someone's throat twice and you'll get wanted.
Stab or beat people, and you won't get wanted unless the police sees you.

It's stupid that arsonry always get you into big trouble, no matter the circumstances.
Hand grenades earn you one star from the initial bang, and then a second star if a car explodes. :(

Maybe a mistake. If I had named the first thread just "San Andreas" I could have asked all questions in it. In the last thread, "quick questions", I can ask all kinds of questions. (And everyone else can of course ask their questions there, if they got any.)

The Police are annoying, really annoying. 3 Stars really sucks too, it takes forever to get rid of the 3rd star if you have to drive your way.

It takes some insane driving too. I didn't only drive the car, I partially flew it. I'm not sure what I hit, but I took off and landed near another road at much lower altitude. I then kept driving/flying downwards, mostly offroad. Took off more and landed at even lower altitude. I now had only a 2-star wanted level and literally smoked the fastest I could towards the sea. I'm not sure if the second star disappeared before I took the water, but I didn't swim far.

Somehow they lost track of me, in spite of them using helicopters at 3-star level.

The most annoying thing with the cops are, they drive like idiots themselves, and if you bump their car a little, they tries to kill you. It had been better if they just issued a ticket.

The San Andreas police is no better than any street gang. They just got better toys.

Oh, once you're able to get territory, if you even enter enemy territory they assault you with macs and pistols. It gets really annoying..

^ And I was foolish enough to conquer all territories right after I got that mission, and the game wasn't programmed to think that I would. Now every time I enter my territory I get shot by guys with purple hats though they don't have any territories now, technically all the Ballas and the Vagos are destroyed.

Hmm, i've done that before, never had that problem.

Oh, and when I won the game for the first time, afterwards, the Marina was considered a territory. Frankly, no one knew what it was.

Yes, some things could have been better.

I got police trouble because I fired the pistol in the nature - didn't hit or aim at anyone.
A bit later those cops hit me with their Ranger and drove it over me. Bastards!

Other annoying people are those truck drivers. Most of them are cowards, they will leave the truck and run if one bullet hits it. But if they just face another vehicle, they ram it.

I had played for about 10 (real world) hours, drove a nice Blade on the countryside. The motor was smoking, but I was not too worried, if it catches fire I always have time to jump out and run. Normally.

I faced a Linerunner on the wrong side of the road just when my motor started to burn. I tried to get out of the car, but I could not, because the idiot truck driver tried to overrun me and slowly pushed my car backwards.
To leave the car you have to completely stop or drive very fast! (Makes no sense.)
The explosion killed me.
