If this happens, and we're over the beaker limit, it's usually more effective to pay ~10 gold to trade for the tech. Means we get the next tech 1 turn earlier, which might be the difference between trade value and no value.

6@1600 I will build on the Hill South of Seoul

Good plan. Nice turnset. Is it possible to sneak out 1 more clan from P'yongyang before we reach dynasticism? population cost goes up by 1 when we reach it, so it's probably worth switching if we can, and build the granary afterwards.

OK, some sort of roster:

Beorn - started
namliaM - played
Disenfranchised - UP
Zorn - on deck
Romeo
Sanabas

My keyboard issue is fixed. I am able to play, but need a minor warning on when I am up.

No worries. Grab it now if you want. If you and I are meant to be the trainers, might work better with us apart in the roster.

Got it then. Time to layeth the smack down.

Not much happening. Get Dyna and revolt. use the anarchy trick and get 4 turns.
Some small rioting due to wicked growth. I need to get Civ assist 2, I think. Mapstat just isn't really working for me.
We have cotton. Can you say cool? Would build on the hill that will get all the cotton in it's first ring.

Anybody have thoughts on the research path? What govt we want in medium term, and how that impacts research? What bonuses we need to reveal, that are available with compulsory techs? Where we want our next couple of cities? When we want to detour for 1-turn boat building & sailing?[/trainer]

I don't have any probs with mapstat. I have civassist 2, but usually only use it very occasionally to look up tech costs, etc. I don't rely on it for warnings, as it takes a fair bit longer than mapstat to pop up, and often it's after I've ended the turn, when it's too late to change things.

I would finish scrape mining, then race for Philo.
After Philo, then go for 1 turn BB, sailing, etc. Domestication is a huge pickup, and should be performed ASAP, probably before Boat building. The research rate in monarchy is much better than Cheifdom.

I doubted about this with "my" clan. We should aim for a town NW of the wood. Just SE of the scout there....

This is coastal. If or around that time we get boat and build first floter to go scouting for other civs.

[Puts on student cap]
Research:
I would say Beeline for Construction (for mining)
Allready going on scrape for Forges which is nice.

IF we trade Dyna to Rome or when Rome gets Dyna. We shouldnt delay on Philo too long... That free tech... Nice

Domestication, would be very nice (food wize) a pig or so...

Note: Lit (libs) is optional! :( Will be a while before we can do 1 turn on lit I think...

Bonusses
Tea with Aristocracy,
Gems with BW. Gems with all that jungle... Might just be and Is on the way to Construction...

Cities
Like I allready said, NW of the wood (absolute Priority to me, tho this requires a 'Hardy' and should probably not be build till after a Forge in Seoul [My choice next {pre-}build in Seoul])
1 on the NE hill on the just right of the mini map in the last pic.
The hill as noted by romeo seems OK
Also the Hill on the south tip of that land tongue looks nice

[/Student]

We are starting to get closer and closer to Mining. Lots of mining to be done, and we are a little light on workers IMO.

Research:

I'd go for Philosophy asap, the AI never goes for this first and Classical education makes great trades.
The AI will probably get construction while we are doing this so we can trade.

Cities:

Cotten city,Wood city and then a Hardy for the exotic fruits

Gov:

Democracy - no real question - bonus gold and a science building and as we have lots of room to expeand a war is not really necessary yet I feel.

[/student cap]

Not only is Lit optional, it requires 2 other optional techs to get to it, however as Korea, I feel we won't need the Great lib and there are enough other science buildings that libs can wait

Building workers under cheifdom is really stupid. With all the high food tiles we have now, our FP city can just spit out workers left and right.
I would let scrape finish, then go philo classical ed.
After that, get domestication, then see where we sit.

One major problem I see is that we will have a really tough time to get contacts.
Romans are blocking the choke, and we won`t be able to get "real" boats for a while.
We could explore with canoes, but...

1 contact shouldn't be a problem. Sanabas and I played a game that had 1 contact for the longest time, then only 2 total contacts until more than halfway into the Middle ages.
Multiple contacts isn't that huge, and as soon as we get a few science buildings and roads up, we will outtech the largest AI Emporer Civ.

[Trainee hat] About scrape mining: why that one tech? It is an awesome tech with forge and iron reveals, but the AI researches it really fast usually, so I never bother with it - and I guess I might be wrong to, but am ignorant as to why.

Totally agree on Philo/Classical ed. [edit: remembered about variant and govt research stuff] On a side note, I'm confused, however, on the RaR Rep/Demo duality. This being a SS, I guess we should head for Demo and 80% rate cap over low WW, but I got my trainee hat and my cadet toothbrusher uniform is still on.

We should probably erect a blockade in the pass and pull a city there for the kicks of it some time soon, like after a canoe city and a good worker pump city are founded. [/trainee]

I'll leave it up to the next player to decide what to do with him

Philosophy is due in 4

Found Nampo. Start counselor

T4

Philosophy completed, we were first and get classical education for free. I was thinking about getting boatbuilding next (1 turn now) but since we have no coastal city in the north it seemed pointless. So I went for bronzeworking instead.
Pyongjang: Wiseman -> hardy (to colonize the jungle)
Wonsan: Worker -> worker
Pusan: Counselor -> hardy (I didn`t know exactly what to do with this city. It can`t grow at the moment, and i don´t think a city with one working citizen should get many improvements)
Cheyu founded -> counselor

T5

Seoul: Forge -> tribal guard (I am paranoid. I want the choke in the north to be better defended than with two explorers)

T6

/

T7

Seoul: tribal guard -> tribal guard

T8

Wonsan: Worker -> worker

T9

Bronze working -> construction

T10

Seoul: Spearman -> academy (can be changed of course. We might even consider a wonder. Once we have mined that mountain we would have a very good chance)

Zorn: Listen to the comments.
We wanted domestication next, not BW.
BW is a horrible tech to get. Tribal guardians never cost upkeep, while spears do. Nothing can beat TG's until jumbos. TG's are good for a very long time.
We want to be able to see all the luxes and resources.
Next player please cancel construction, and go back and pick up domestication, and probably weaving and fermentation as well.
The other bad thing about BW is that the AI always gets it, and we can easily trade for it or research at a discount.
I explained the scout blockade earlier. By the time the romans punch through it, we will have enough warning to build real troops. Any "real" troops we put there are a complete waste, when the scouts do the job just fine.
