sand 01: the computer knows best

I Peter asks for Open Borders. I'm too embarrassed about our weak garrisons to allow him to see them and refuse.

This is like watching a train wreck in slow motion. I can't help but watch some more.

There's no way to choose which computer decision was the most bone-headed this time. They all were the most bone-headed.

No, the Machine God had decreed that the Russian heathens were not worhty of seeing its magnificent creations so denied them access to its lands.

Love the train-wreck statement it sums it up beautifully, :rotfl: the thing that worries me is that I lose to this AI on occasion

Lurker's comment:

Kudos to you guys for a fun read and an interesting (in a morbid sort of way) idea for a succession game. I did pick up your train wreck, couldn't resist the urge to play... one... more... turn... and was suprised to be still alive in the 19th century (after several wars), and even more so upon signing a PA with a most unlikely candidate.

...only to find out that I had ignored your rule number 3... Methinks that once this rule sucks you into picking a (less-than-ideal) religion, you're toast. In the best of train wreck traditions, of course. :p

Still, the best of luck!

Just think Lekdevil, if you'd obeyed rule number 3 you'd have won in the 12th century!!!:crazyeye:

sry guys but I'm back i'll play next time my turns come round I haven't been able to get on for a while.

welll atleast your back and thats what matters.

that reminds we i turned on Perm aliances, that could be our only chance to win

something lurkers might like to look at
thanks zorn i'm not sure what the random god one was but i'm sure it must of been something speacial to be better than ours *cough* not *cough* . really i'm suprised at the amount of lurkers were getting.

i try to make my posts lurker freindly by including as many pictures as i can, since mostly lurkers don't look at saves. this also helps the rest of the team do better stratergy. since they will understand the other persons direction to make the turns flow smooth as if one person was playing.

i'm also very happy when commited lurkers like Lekdevil.NL play a shadow game using our save. if you do please post your result. so for all lurkers thanks from me and the team.

Well, I'll try to give a few tips, drawing from the shadow game I played. I won't go into too much detail, as that might spoil the fun...

Because your defenses are entirely decided upon by the whims of the Computer (i.e. pathetic), diplomacy is everything. You will need to make friends, and lots of them. To do that, you'll need to trade, and trade intelligently. Try to steer your research (as best as the equally pathetic "recommendations" allow you to) towards techs that are valuable to the AI, use those to keep your tech level up, and build up your relations. Try to determine which AIs you can trade with, and with which you can't, to avoid annoying your potential allies.

Make sure you have some techs to bribe your allies into war, should you get attacked (and you will). Getting the warrior AIs on my side in battle saved my ass more than once.

As I said earlier, I didn't realize rule # 3 was there until after the game. Thus, I didn't pick Confucianism as my state religion when CoL came in. If you do so, I think that will make the game a lot harder, because of all the "heathen religion" diplomacy penalties. Don't say I didn't warn ya... :p

Oh, and you'd really want that iron. That's all I'm gonna say...

So the worshippers gathered around the Machine Gods Shrine to receive its wisdom and lo the Machine God spake “Sit back drink :coffee: , roll a fat one :smoke: and just press enter”.

In 55 BC the Machine God surveyed its land and decided that the top priority was to build lots of roads despite a weak military and the fact that all its cities were on the same river. Mankind understood not the deep ways of the machine god.

Indeed progress was slow, so slow that 30 years later the Machine God decided more labourers were the top priority. Lesser mortals were pressing for some sort of a military but no the Machine Gods will would be followed

Seriously I do think Diplomacy is the key to our short term survival, Genghis now actually like us and if only hinduism would spread we should be able to keep him on side, hopefully the AI's dislike of Hattie will lead to their military going after her not us.

Later the infidel neighbour known as Khan asked us to break ties with the rather cute looking Egyptian female we had met earlier. The Machine God was silent and mankind decided that the Khan actually looked rather scary and that everybody else liked him and disliked the cute girl so they agreed to his demands

End of Turn

As the cycle came to a close mankind pleaded with the Machine God,

“Look our Military is so weak wont our neighbours attack us?”

The Machine God replied – “Know this my lowly followers we are embarked on a deep strategy called
Before – Enduring –Nominal – Domination

Outright – Vertical – Expansion – Reserves.

You will not understand this plan so may refer to it as the Bend Over and assume the Position Strategy.

Fear the power of the Machine God

LOL! Looking at that power curve, one thought comes to mind -- "flatline."

Of course the key requirement Sand missed initially was:-
