sand 01: the computer knows best

Ok Take this as a got it , will play and post by Wednesday Eve UK time.

Should we keep a record and vote on the :smoke:iest decision the AI makes in each age. We each have to propose what we thought was the dumbest move from our turnsets

That would have to be giving Combat I promotion to our scouting warrior instead of Woodsman II! Of course, choosing to build barracks right off the bat isn't a usual tactic of mine, if you get my drift.

Oh, a word of caution: :::queue scary organ music:::

After playing and posting my turnset last night, I loaded a save game from another SG in which I play -- The 'Teers 02: The Man in the Iron Mask

Later on, while writing the report about my turnset there, I discovered the following in my log file:

Turn 1 (1202 AD)
Warrior promoted: Combat II
Axeman promoted: Cover
Axeman promoted: Shock
Axeman promoted: Cover
Spearman promoted: Shock
Axeman promoted: Cover

Axeman promoted: Shock

ACK! Our army had many members who were unpromoted. Most folks prefer to promote units just prior to their first or next combat. The worst part is, I didn't notice that it happened for another 8 turns until a worker who had just been built took off on his own.

So if you don't normally play with automated promotions, workers and the other options we use in sand 01, be sure to change your options before starting another game.

Of course you could really get into the spirit of this SG by leaving it on in other ones , including your team SGOTM!!! :) You do need to be prepared to suffer the indignation, hysteria and ritual abuse of your team mates but if we are going to play in charachter then in for a penny in for a pound!!:D

I will try and conjure excuses for the :smoke: moves as after all "The Computer knows best."

For example...Combat 1 instead of woodsman 2 was a cracking decision as we are bound to chop all our forests eventually and then what use would the woodsman promotion be? See the AI is just looking more deeply at the long term future of the unit than us short attention span humans and knows in the end combat 1 will be better!!

Ralph

For future reference a quick check on worker Automation my understanding is we are not automating workers until our BFC is full but must only build "highlighted" options in a square, if two options to improve a tile are higlighted we can do either?

What about roads to connect things up. just want to play well within the spirit of this SG because it tickles me!!! of course automating workers would just solve all these questions! and this is all irrelevant till the mighty and wise aI lets us build one :gripe:

LOL! Uh, I'll ... uh ... take your suggestion under consideration.

Regarding two modes of settler automation (manual using suggested tiles and suggested tasks vs. automating the workers) I think either would be acceptable. However, I don't think you'd ever be able to move a worker from working in one city's fat-cross to working a different city using the manual method.

The acolyte tended to the machine god as he had done from the day he was born to serve. The rituals of care were clear, at regular intervals the machine god would issue instructions which he would communicate to the leaders of the people.

The machine god had guided the people well, the had expanded from their humble village into the foothills founding shanghai. Some rebels amongst the leadership talked about further expansion to claim the good in the nearby mountains but the machine’s gods will was first to build Barracks to form mighty warriors. Indeed in an unprecedented step the machine god had decreed that once the barracks were built Archers must be made ready to protect the city.

Don’t know how this happened but on opening the save an archer is queued in Shanghai. Now some would say I should have deleted it to follow AI recommendations, but somehow it felt better to leave it there as I don’t how it got there and the computer knows best.Turns were mainly pressing enter and :coffee: + :smoke:

Turn 5 and we get our first choice.
researchchoice.jpg

Now we haven’t got any sea tiles but naturally the AI recommends either sailing or meditation so I pick meditation

The machine god decreed that mans study had been good and it was time for the secrets of the machine religion to slowly be revealed. Priests were summoned and the secrets of meditation gradually revealed from the machine gods core.

Looked for copper down south and found nothing but a barb for experience and a lot of ice!!!

The machine god had commended men to build a mighty stone temple in his honour but weaklings amongst the tribe had frustrated his efforts. The machine god was angry and decreed they must stop and learn from their mistakes by recording their failure in the first of a collection of written instructions and knowledge from the Machine god. In the capital the first stones of a library were laid.

After many years the machine god was content that man had reached a higher plane of understanding through meditation and commanded they begin to learn the secrets of fashioning the hard grey metal they had heard of from travellers.

As the tribe grew they were approached by travellers form other lands and the machine god decreed peaceful relations be established as in time these heathens might be turned to the true path.

Maybe I left it out of my set report, but the machine god deemed that we build an Archer there about 6 turns after the recommendation for Bejing.

interesting game guys. don't know if i would like to try a game like this one. good luck and eager to see the outcome.

Normally, I'd be looking at our position after the latest turn set and spouting my opinion on where we should be heading (in this case, chop/whip a settler for when IW comes in and if we don't already have iron in our cities, settle there). In this game all I can say is "Keep doing what the ole AI says fellas!"

From my turns, would have to be only being given the option to build a scout in Beijing, as wild animals were just taking over the wilderness. Was never going to work.

i think that happens when we farm alot of tiles that need improving. this game should give us an image of, the ftre controled by machines.

Lurker's comments
And the Firefox Machine hath decreed, upon my loading of the forums, that I clickth a random SG to replaceth the newly finisheth Nox 02 - OOC Cultural Victory...th. And lo and beholdth, this linkth was clickth--... just a minuth...
*small clicking sound as Akuma-sama removeth the plastic vampire fangs from his mouth*
There we go. Anyways, you guys have a new lurker. ;)

ok the times just past 4pm GMT if its not played by 5pm then we skip

LOL, Akuma-sama! Welcome to here. I hope you enjoy our pending disaster. <g>

I think here's where we stand. We're playing either 20 or 30 turns per set.

1.sand >> on deck, pick up the save if UGP doesn't show up?
2.ozbenno
3.frankcor >> played 30
4.Ralph_Jackson >> just played 20
5.ULTIMATEGP >> Up now -- 48 hours and skip?

48 hours it is then. if he doesn't show up for his next turn then he will be replaced.

ok UGP, youve had 72 hours so i'll presume you left. any got it play now.
