SCENARIO: American Civil War - C3C only

This is strange to say the least, since I have 2
earlier downloads of C3C 3.9 where the file is correct!

Any comment Misfit_travel???

Rocoteh:

As I PM'ed you, I'm looking into the matter. As V3.9 was your creation I will do you the courtesy of letting you know what comes of it. The version of v3.91 I have on my computer would not generate the error condition NilesR reported, so I've reloaded that to the first page of this thread, but there is still Procifica's thread link to consider.

As we are very close to releasing V4.0 I would ask two things of you:

1) Please review the V4.0 release information starting on page 47. I would like in ensure that I have given you appropriate credit and to maintain historical accuracy where possible. Your comments, as always, are valued to maintaining the legacy you and Procifica created.

2) What shall we do with v3.9 when v4.0 is released? As v3.9x is your project, do you wish it retained, or shall I remove it from download? I do not feel it is appropriate to make this decision without your consultation.

Thanks
Misfit

EDIT: The v4.0 release information will be linked to the first post of this thread. I'm still waiting for some feedback from some of the playtesters before I post the final release files, but at that time I will build a table of contents and link them to the posts on pages 47,48,49.

NilesR has replied back to me indicating the he downloaded his version of the ACW scenario from the original ACW thread.

I'm sorry but I don't have any way of modifying that post since it was placed there by Procifica. I will however continue to support any inquiries that may come up.

I can guarantee that the ACW C3C version in this thread does not report the error NilesR reported.

I hope that helps.

Misfit

Sorry for the confusion, I didn't actually realize that there were 2 different threads for a Civil War scenario. Everything is fixed now so no biggie.

Great job on the scenario, it's the most fun I've had on Civ 3 since I bought it. Can't wait till you guys finish the next version.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I can't resist pointing out there's three ACW threads in Completed Scenarios - the two linked in my sig (which you know), plus the really old one for the public betas of the Vanilla version.

Sarevok:

The reason for splitting ACW to ACWC3C was because we wanted a Conquests only version. Procifica wanted to retain control and ship a version that would work on all releases of CIVIII. For the longest time he did not even own a copy of Conquest, although I believe Whiz_kid1950 did eventually send him one.

One of the things I asked people to do to avoid even more thread proliferation was to post a "reserved" post at the start of this thread. If you look at page 1 you'll notice that pretty much everybody from the ACW playtest / development thread posting at least once here.

My thinking was that should one (or more) of us drop off the team, we could pass the torch to someone else by simply removing our verbage in our first posts and letting the new "coordinator" take over. (For example if Dreadknought, Rocoteh or Procifica wanted to create their own variant of ACWC3C, beyond what's been done, they could post on page 1 and we could link everything together).

That wasn't possible on the ACW thread since Procifica had most of the first pages allocated.

As you know sometimes we can't all get along and play nice with each other. Relationships change over time. I hope what we have done here on this thread will allow it to continue and grow over time.

Three threads is insane? The Lord of the Mods crowd is at their* tenth thread, and they've not got to the beta stage yet ...

I think starting new threads were the right ideas at the time. And for someone with C3C coming new to ACW, the 800-odd posts of the frist thread are of very limited interest.

About the only thing I prefer with CDG over CFC is that you can have an entire subforum for a scenario. It allows for a much more topical and manageable layout of downloads, scenario information, developers' discussions and feedback.

* I should perhaps say "our" - I'm a regular poster since a thread seven or so.

Would someone be kind enough to look at the information on posts #1 and #2 and try out the links.

I'm looking for prerelease feedback to make sure I haven't missed anything major.

If there is more information you think I should include, please say something.

Misfit

Links all work and the screen shots and write ups are great. There appear to be some typo's in the strategy guides and I will see what I can do to get that info to you.

Overall, looks very thorough and a job well done.

Klyden:

Thanks for suggestions on the strat guides. I'll incorporate your suggestions and reupload.

I believe I have discovered why you had such an overwhelmingly difficult time. By mistake the Deity setting granted the AI and extra 8 offensive and 4 defensive units at game start. This has been corrected as the AI was only to get faster builds, not more units.

Misfit

Hmm.. what extra units did they wind up with or do you know? I would be curious.. seem to be several extra skirmisher units running around early, but I also know those are set up under an auto build.

Sarevok:

Would you care to explain your last post please? I'm afriad I don't quite understand the point you were trying to make.

Also, have you actually played v4.0 in one of the earlier betas? If so, which one did you play. How far into the game did you play? What where your expectations when you were playing it? What part of the scenario did you like best? or least?

Please give us the benefit of your opinion with specific feature commentary rather than a 1 or 2 line response that could be misinterpreted. That would be much more helpful in improving the product.

Thanks
Misfit

Well, I was giving a compliment. The ACW scenarios have so many small changes done to it in the editor all tested specifically for ballance that it makes the insane amount of effort I put into TOE and TGW seem minimal in comparison. Becasue of the striving for ballance, the "scales" are perfactly ballanced and with an accidental adding of a few units may tip the ballance even though such an addition may seem mimimal until you look at the immense amount of effort spent to make he original product without those unintended extra unts for an absolute ballance of power.

This was a response to what Klyden said.

Sarevok:

I understand much better now. Thanks for the clarification.

Klyden:

I believe the AI was given 8 volunteers and 4 skirmishers extra. Given that they are under 10 turns away from LTV tech at game start, that's a huge shift in their favour.

Thunderfall was nice enough to give me access to the ftp site to upload the final ACWC3C files. They are just waiting for a new url to link to post #1.

I do however have a problem I'm hoping someone can guide me on.

I'd like to attach a counter to the download URL for the ACWC3C v4.0 files, but am having some trouble figuring out how to make it work.

As I understand it, you need to upload via the ATTACH FILE option. Then when the user downloads the URL and then downloads the ATTACHed file, you get an incremental counter.

HERE IS MY PROBLEM:

If I already have a post in place which I'm editing, I don't see the ATTACH FILE: option anymore. So how do I attach a counter?

If anybody can set me straight on this I would appreciate it.

Thanks
Misfit

As per Thunderfall's suggestion I'm using this attachment as a counter for the V4.0 release.

Apparently you can't add an attachment to a edited post that didn't have one previously, but you can link to an attachment in a later post.

Please do not download this attachment from this post, only from the 1st post with the scenario files. Hopefully we can get a more or less accurate download count this way.

Thanks
Misfit

The full scenario is now released and posted. Please see post #1 of this thread.

Many thanks to the scenario team for the time and efforts to get this project to completion.
