SCENARIO: American Civil War - C3C only

Certainly that would be very helpful. If you would like to upload a ZIP that contains the French directory structure and give me the URL, I will add it to post #1, so anyone wanting it can find it easily.

Since its a pretty big upload, you might need Thunderfall to give you a login to the FTP site.

Fortunately there is a way to correct the problem without uploading all files! I zipped only the modified files and it's really thin.

There is also a readme file in english and in french so everybody can understand how to install the patch.

If you think it worth it, of cause you can add it to post #1.

Anyway, even if the patch worked with me, it doesn't mean it will work with everybody. So don't hesitate with any suggestion (I hope) and complains(I do not hope).

NOTE: this patch won't TRANSLATE the scenario, it will just make it work.

TLC:

I'm in Montreal on business today. I will be unavailable until late this evening (Eastern Standard Time). Thanks for the note on the Draftee. That means its in the Regent base file (since I copied it this time for the Emperor & Deity versions). I'll fix it for the v4.01 release.

I'm curious to know if you experience any problems this time around.

My test machine was a Pentium IV with 1gb RAM. As I advanced in skill levels the AI was obviously doing more thinking, but I never had a turn freeze on me. The longest pause I noticed was about 10 seconds (before the next unit moved).

I appreciate your help troubleshooting this problem.

When 4.01 is released, could you separate the .biq files from the art files for download? That way if there are changes in the .biqs but not the art everything wouldn't need to be downloaded again. Us poor people who still have dial-up would appreciate that! :)

This sounds like a really neat scenerio to play....my question is...what do I need to download....Are all the files and art work, mods, etc. in the ACWC3C Ver.4.0 download.....I'd really like to try this out..I'm new to this sort of thing so thats why I'm asking. Thanks for your help.....

Jughead: You just need to DL the ACW C3C v4.0 file, and the DL counter. Stat away from the CSA Deity and Emperor biqs for the moment - they have an unaccounted-for crash, and if you're new to the scen I recommend Regent anyway.

Misfit: I get the same crash in week 30, '61 on Deity. Unfortunately, I accidentally ended the turn without making a save.

It's worth noting that for no reason I can discern, the AI was much less aggressive in Virginia this time round. One div each advanced on Winchester and Manassas/Alexandria, and when I wiped them (and two accompanying Skirmishers) no more came. I was in control of Harper's Ferry by week 30.

Same result as TLC. Game crash on week 30. I will email you the auto save turn. I was not doing much as the CSA, just passing turns.

The last thing that moved was some shipping out of Cairo. My mouse pointer went to a regular pointer I could move around (no hour glass to indicate it is busy) and the game was locked up and not responding according to Windows task manager.

The Last Comformist.......Thanks for you help.....appreciate it. Looking forward to playing the ACWC3C ver.4.0..Thanks again

Thanks TLC / Klyden.

It would appear to be related to the autoproducing wonders since that seems to be the only real difference between Regent and the higher levels.

I'll go back and look at it again.

I'm just off the plane, so I'm beat at the moment. I'll look at it tomorrow.

TLC / Klyden:

Could I get you guys to try 10-15 turns at Emperor? That seems to work better for me.

I want to know if I should concentrate on only the Deity fix.

My current theories are:

1) Autoproducing wonders

2) Running out of gold due to new units

3) Immoblile Draftees set to RANDOM (instead of defense). (The AI might be trying to use them offensively by loading them on a transport or something).

To test these I need to run some fairly detailed and isolated testing. I'm going to start with idea #3 since that sound the most promising.

Will see what I can do.

The one thing to consider is the Union works fine. I would assume the draftees are under the same rules there as well.

Aah, no they are not. This is why I'm going to run some detailed testing. In the Union Emperor and Deity levels I manually adjusted every placed draftee to defense only setting. I was not as diligent on the CSA builds. I will go back and check each of the placed units to insure they are setup correctly. Its not difficult work, just time consuming.

The more I think about it the more I think the problem is related to loading of units on transports. There always seem to be a common thread in the lockup when transports move to drop units somewhere. I'm assuming that I have not disabled the LOAD function on the immobile draftee units, so it would be possible to load them into a transport, but when you go to unload - BOOM.

Since only the AI union has transports (and immobile draftees) its quite possible the problem exist in all variants, but the problem will never surface in the CSA AI builds because they never build transports.

The only way to know if the play more in Emperor to see if it too will blow up under similar circumstances.

Thanks for the help.

Played a "game" as the CSA on Emperor, simply ending my turns without moving anything. It crashed on the AI's 2nd turn.

The Immobile Draftee theory may very well be right - the first crash I run into was after the AI had moved a transport on the lower Tennessee. Haven't cared to actually look at the monitor during my follow-up tests, so can't say anything about those in that regard.

I feel very confident that the cause of the lockup problem was the unit settings for the Union Immobile Draftee that is given to the AI to stiffen its border units.

Attached are the fixed versions of ACWC3C for CSA human at Emperor and Deity level (for simplicity I've labelled them v4.02).

I will update the front page, splitting the artwork from the game files (as suggested by Itcone) and update the scenario files all to version v4.02.

Could someone download these and try them out. I got through 25+ turns without a crash and the game played noticeably faster (probably because it doesn't have to think about what to do with these unit types anymore).

Thanks to TLC and Klyden for their input and playtesting help.

Misfit

PS (I removed the Columbus Draftee finally TLC) ;)

Simply ending turns, I got to week 40 on Deity CSA, without any crash, and with noticeably decreased turn times. I think we can assume the problem is solved.

It may be noted that the blueclad horde, in those twelve turns, only captured Winchester, Fredericksburg and Ironton.

I've uploaded and linked the v4.02 scenario files to post #1 of this thread.

I hope you enjoy the scenario and please feel free to post your feedback to this thread.
