Scenario Preview - The Desert and the Mountain

Another update, just in case anyone thought this had disappeared completely into the ether. Basically I have had to put it on hold for a bit while I deal with lots of incredibly major and time-consuming real life things (ie, moving abroad, which unfortunately happened before I could finish this). But as I mentioned before, there's not much left to do to it, so I'm hoping to get all that done in September and post the finished thing some time then. Just in time for Civ IV and instant obsolescence!

Well, September came and went, but in fact this scenario is very nearly finished. I've balanced the gameplay to my approximate satisfaction, all the text is written, and most of the graphics are in there. There are a few bits and bobs to finish off, for which I actually need to wait on other people's work, so it should be here shortly. I'm lucky to have got Traianus to agree to make some Diplomacy graphics for the scenario - anyone who's seen his Celtic, Aztec and Mayan artworks will know what good stuff he does. Plus, of course, the scenario uses some of R8XFT's excellent graphics from Anno Domini, so it won't appear before that does.

So sorry for the various delays. It proved to be an even bigger project than I anticipated - somehow, five culture groups of 22 techs each doesn't sound very much until you actually have to find icons and write descriptions for them all. I hope those who've been waiting for it like the finished thing!

Definitely looking forward to this one. I only saw the reference to it now, so there's no wait history with me :p I can't wait

They say that scenarios never get finished - they just escape prematurely, to varying degrees. This one has finally got out - for now. Get it at http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=139163

Sorry for the many delays - it turned out (as usual) to be considerably more work than I anticipated! I hope you like it though. There are quite a few more things in the finished version than in the preview, including two new playable civs.

This one doesn't have a MP version yet. The main reason for this is that I want to be sure any kinks have been ironed out before I make the MP version, because otherwise I'd have to do all the corrections twice.

The MP version will feature a smaller map (I already have this), of course. But I'm planning on doing some alternative MP versions too, on the full-size map, but only half of it. This would allow people to play parts of the scenario in multi-player with all the civs in that part. So there could be a West Africa MP map, a Horn of Africa MP map, and so on.

Damned eight-civ limit for MP games!

I don't like that limit either. I know its good for game speed, but still. BTW if you ever download my mod in the future Plotinus I would love to multiplay with you or anyone else interested. Africa is one area I am not sure how to expand on with unique technologies and such. For pure African civs I have mali, etheopia and the Zulu. Nubia is Egypt and African cultures combined.

I'm looking forward to your mod, SoG! I don't have so much time to play these days but it'll be on the list. I've never done any kind of MP before but I'd be very pleased to be shown how!

BTW I don't think I got your email, I'm afraid...

I'm really trying very hard to make Heart of Destiny one of the most enjoyable expierences out there. Multiplayer is like the normal game, only with one of the civs(or more) being controled by a human player. It can be quirky because of firewalls and other things which can and do interfere with connections.

I can imagine. The only Internet MP game-playing I've ever done was with Dungeon Keeper II, and whilst great fun (despite invariably getting mashed), it was always annoying when the computer suddenly and inexplicably crashed. I bet it was annoying for the other people too.

Well as I recall saving every few turns is a must, because once you get past the firewalls and such, which isn't that hard, the internet is unpredictable. I just need some help with the African aspect of the mod. I really don't know what kinds of african flavor techs(other than egyptian lol) to give.
