hi! I have a question. Is it possible for one to create cities when one is trying to create a scenario? Are scenarios even possible in Civilization III?

I believe so, but only with the editor version that works with 1.29f. Unfortunately, the mac editor was never updated for 1.29f. It works with 1.21g only.

The Mac version 1.21g editor? It's usually available from Brad Oliver's site, linked via MacGameFiles. It's there at the moment, 'cos I just checked.

There is no 1.29f for Mac, because Macsoft never got around to releasing it. There's a Beta - 1.29b2 - though, and it's as good as. There isn't a complete download, but if you look very carefully at my signature you'll find a link to an updater that will transform any previous Mac version to 1.29b2.

Thanks! Do you know anywhere where I could download maps for mac?

Also, when I tried to download 1.29, or when I clicked on the link, the page that loaded contained no information, just a great deal of Symbols.

The Creation and Customization forum contains lots of mods and maps and scenarios. You have to find the ones that either say they are for Civ 1.29 or contain files with .BIC extensions. If the mod file or map file includes a .BIX or .BIQ extension it won't work on the Mac.

Control-click (or right click) the link and select "Download linked file". Safari doesn't recognise the MIME type coming from my ISP's web server, so it tries to download a binary file as text. I'll try adding a fix to my web space to change it on the server end.

Thank you so much. ^_^. You've helped a great deal!

I have downloaded it, but when I try and launch it, it wont work. Would you suggest deleting some other applications that take up a lot of memory? If not that, what else would you suggest?

Hmm. I just tried downloading the 1.29b2 updater myself, and in Safari 2.0 it looks like Safari adds a .txt extension to the end of the file name. If that is what's happening to you then edit the downloaded file name to delete the .txt extension. The file name should then be Civ3_1.29b2_Installer.sitx and this should self-extract to produce an installer called Civ3 1.29b2 Installer. Double click this installer to update your Civ3.

That wasnt the problem. I meant, it updates, but then after I update, when I try to open the Civ Editor, it says that the application quit. Any other suggestions?

Please can you be more specific in future posts about the problem you are having? This is the second time I've answered the wrong question

As Macintosh says, and Dojoboy said right at the top, you need version 1.21g of Civ if you want to run the Mac editor. The 1.21g patch is at MacSoft. And make sure you put the editor FILE into the Civ3 folder on its own, NOT inside its own folder.

I’ m sorry. Im not very computer savvy, and don't really know what question would.. come up with a helpful solution. I don't understand the bit about the folder, after it downloads, doesn't it automatically go into the CIV 3 folder?

"Downloading" just means copying the file from the web site where it lives onto your computer. When you download the editor file using Safari it just goes onto your desktop if that's where your downloads are set to go. Safari knows nothing about where the editor file should go.

The downloaded file is a compressed archive that has to be expanded to create a folder. If your Safari preferences are set to open downloaded files automatically then it will expand it. If not you will have to double click the file to expand it manually. Either way this will create a folder, in the same place as the downloaded file. That will be on your desktop if you haven't changed the defaults in Safari.

After that you have to do something to get the editor to where it needs to be. Open the folder that has appeared on your desktop and you will see the Civ3Edit file inside. Drag that file into your Civilization III version 1.21g folder.

Now you have the file, on its own, in the Civ3 folder. Double click it to start the editor.

Hope this helps.
