Eventually, Fixaris will release a scenario pack for civ3 (hopefully not during exams or I'm screwed, lol). What scenarios do you want to see? I'd hopefully like to see ones that utilize a lot of the new military changes like bombardment, operation ranges, armies, yada yada.

Well i believe everybody wants the WW2 scenario.

I didn't vote because I'd want all of them.

I've never played Civ 1 or 2, so I'm not really familiar with the format that a scenario might take. Now some might think that the term scenario would be self explanatory. But thats not necessarily the case.

As an example, you list WW2 for a scenario. Yet within WW2 there would be a number of suitable historical events that would make excellent scenario's within themselves. It's really just a matter of scale.

Things like researching technology would also become somewhat redundant. You wouldn't expect to be researching stealth technology in WW2. And imagine playing a WW2 scenario and having the Germans suddenly form an aliance with the English against Italy. Diplomacy would have to work a little bit different.

For me, a scenario would involve a small map with a number of towns to start with (and improvements), as opposed to a settler, realistic military for the age of the scenario, a limit on the number of workers etc allowed (except when captured), and an equal number of resources that would need to be played for strategy. A map would be won in one way only. Meeting a specific number of objectives in a set number of turns.

One would expect games to be much shorter. One would also expect such games to make for very good multiplayer action.

Is this a realistic expectation? Does it meet anyone elses expectation? Am I a raving lunatic?

You are raving like a lunatic, but thats ok, ranting away is fun. :D

You expectations are right on. Thats pretty much what Civ 2 scenarios were like. The really good ones made by fellow Civ 2 fans had new units, different goals, etc. For example, a WWII scenario would have ALOT of different Tank, infantry, aircraft units, not just the 1 or 2 that is in Civ 2 now. (Like the Sherman, the Panzer, the Tiger, etc. for tanks, the B-2 bomber, those fighter planes the Germans used, etc.) Also, units like the 'worker' would probably be redone to be a unit called 'engineer', something more period specific, and new units like a 'V2 rocket launcher' could be made, perhaps with the ability to attack passing air units. The main beef with Civ 3 is that the editor doesn't allow all that, while the Civ 2 editor was amazing for mod-makers. (Go take a look at some of the scenarios that were made for Civ 2 [in the downloads section of this site] to see the originality that came threw. There were even Star Wars and Star Trek scenarios that took place in space. (Terrain squares were made black like space, units were starships and starfighters, etc.) Very neat. When a good editor comes out for Civ 3, I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone can put together.

I would like fantasy and sci-fi scenarii. Some medieval scenarii too. There was history before America, you know :P
But the scenario editor should be a considerable good one. As long as it's not possible to give objective and friendship/hate relation to leaders, it'll be a pain in the (hem) to make good historic or story-related scenarii.

I want everything! Every scenario ever!!!

Well, I don't suppose it matter what scenario Firaxis make as long as it comes with the all inportant SCENARIO EDITOR!

If we only had this, there's a huge array of map-making talent about that could make any scenario (historic or fictional), and judging by the (quite frankly) sh!t world map that Firaxis shipped with works of art such as Marla Singer's effort, the community scenarios will probably be better.
