biggest science rate? i just barely discovered the possibilities of ssc and got one up to 716 at 50% science and scientists werent to top level. hows everyone else done? got this on king level and kicked butt. it was scary how far i was ahead

. As I recall from another forum 700 somthing is the typical science rate of a super science city.

Is this what you mean by ssc?

Hmm, nice production rate, why is science so low?

No university?

For a SSC (super science city), you basically want the Colossus, Copernicus, Sir Isaac's, probably Shakespeare's Theater, and of course a library, university, and research lab. Use "We Love" days in Republic or Democracy to grow the city as big as possible. Convert a few citizens to scientists.

I've gotten up to 300 science that way. I hope someone will explain how you double that.

I can usually get science discovery at every 2turns

never gotten 1 turn tho

After superhighways and a research lab I have seen over 1500 beakers per turn in OCC.Depends on the specials you are working with.

here is one.I know..where is your defense?OCC is different than normal games. As you can see by the date, the ai is not going to threaten.Thats the main idea of OCC.You launch well before the ai can be a threat.

Well looking at that picture here's a question for ya smash. Do fortify your caravans/freights help your city science?

. Since this is THE city from an OCC game, I belive the carvans are stored production, waiting to be used for a wonder or spaceship module. They are F so that he does have to spacebar then each turn while waiting for the time to cash them in.

Lefty is correct on both counts.

At times in OCC there are "lulls" when you "store" sheilds for wonders or spaceship parts.

The dip and chariot are moving out and in of the city each turn looking for dips trying to steal tech or someother provocative action.Often a single dip can guard the city all game

Can someone write a few paragraphs on Super Science City and email it to me? I will add it to the War Academy in the next major site update. Thanks.

i cant email it to you but ill just write it here.

as a forward, the super science city (ssc) is not necessarily your first city. a great place for it is o rivers, though not necessary, and it should have special trade resources for it. you will find a great example on the world map. be the indians and go up. there is a large river, gold, and silk, which are great trade squares.

when you start out, get to monarchy as soon as possible (alphabet, ceremonial burial, code of laws, and monarchy). next, get to bronze working for colossus. the colossus adds one trade unit to every square in your cities radius, which therefore, increases your science output. i wouldnt even bother with great library because you will be very far ahead. as you have probably already realized, the ssc NEEDS wonders to be a good science city.

the next wonder you need is copernicus' observetory. this wondr acts as another library (increases science output by 50%). this is probably more important than the colossus because it directly affects the science output.

after copernicus' observetory you will build isaac newtons college, which comes with the theory of gravity technology. this doubles the science production of the city. i do not believe it takes into account any improvements you have, but does it after the science rate and scientists you have in the city.

of course, as you probably know, have 3 good caravans trade routes which will increase trade even more. i am happy to say that URANIUM DOES EXIST, i saw it in may last game. you will also build a library, university, bank, stock exchange, and super highways.

there are two more important wonders though. one does not have to be built in your ssc. it is (sorry i forgot name
smile.gif
(insert here)) and it counts as a research lab in all of your cities. additionally, you need to build SETI program, and this also counts as a library in your city, like copernicus' observatory.

in my previous game at king level, the science rate of my ssc was 716 beakers a turn. it was on a river, and also had several scientists in it. i did not have any special resources in it though! furthermore, my science rate was only 50% .

hope this has been helpful guys.

thanks

Un-fortunately this method only works if your competition is really slow. All of those wonders are usually desired by your competitors and you have to be truly superior to get all of them.

Or perhaps you think that when you're dead you just stay in your grave.

Me, I just don't bother. Why have scientists when you've got a Secret Service to do the job?

The AIs love to get the Colossus and Cope's Observatory. You can still get them if you aim for them and have the right techs.

The absolute minimum path for Cope's would be Cer. Burial, Bronze, Masonry, Alphabet, Mysticism, Mathematics, Astronomy.

The detour to Philosophy with its free extra tech isn't far: add Writing, Law Code, Literacy.

Stellar, I will add your post about SSC to the Academy soon. Thanks!

recently, in a game on prince level, i got my science level up to about 1127 beakers a turn, with 3 crappy trade routes, and a city size of 31. the occ site was very useful. the occ is the best way to play civ i think. it cuts play time down to a few hours!

I tried this in my last game. I got colossus, Newtons, Seti, and Copernicus all in one city. I was on a big island all by myself and funnelled caravans from all my cities to this one city. That helped a lot. I also set up good farmland and railroads, I thought I was doing good to be approaching 100. I'll have to check it again but I can't imagine approaching 700?

100 is easy, in my last game i played i got alittle over 650 science in one of my cities

650 is ok
smile.gif
...if you have other cities. in my last occ/ssc game i got mine up to 1216, and i didnt have science allthe way up or the scentists. its not that hard. yoiu need rivers and good trade routes and good specials. im sure somewhre in the 1600-1800s is more than posseble
