Scientology, not just something that's amusing to ridicule

I didn't mean what I said above, it was a parody! ;)

"So many hypocrites" get away with bashing this particular "religion" for about the same reason that they get away with bashing Creationism. Not very many people are defending that under freedom of religion. Are you going to call it a troll thread? It's obvious that Creationism is a religious belief.

Two points:
First, the claims as a whole are not merely religious rather than scientific but false beyond reasonable doubt. For example, the (alleged) multiple hydrogen bombs dropped in a great many volcanoes on Earth. This is what gets Creationism mocked.
Second, the atrocities are not only approved but ordered at the very highest level. Fair Game infamously says

Debating creationism, and bashing it...two different things. Many things said in those threads go over the line, yeah. But the point of the thread isn't necessarily trolling, it's how posters go about it.

Honestly, there's no more proof for many, many things in the bible than what you mention. The flood being at the top of many people's list. Or we could just jump straight to the point, that the bible claims Jesus was God/Son of God. There's no way to even prove that anyone named Jesus ever lived, let alone if he was divine or not. Yet, this is a core belief of Christianity.

As far as atrocities go, same thing. Take Judaism for example. Slaughter every man, woman, child, beast...every living thing. Straight from God, no less.

Fair game was written by a man who no longer lives. Maybe just like Christianity, some Scientology followers simply take the parts they agree with, and ignore the rest. Because if they follow his writings word for word and take them all literally...they'd be fundies, would they not? Something that creates controversy in pretty much all religions, because a lot of those "sacred texts" that people follow, when taken at face value...say some pretty horrid things.

I mean, I can pull out Bible quotes of Jesus saying things that pretty much amount to discriminating against those who aren't Christian. But that's not PC, so most people tend to disregaurd it...or forget it's there, whatever's most convenient I guess. But when a fundie rears his ugly head, quoting (infallible) popes from 1,000yrs ago...he's a racist bigot, etc...

Sure, rational intelligent people will see it for the nonsense it is, but such are not its target audience. If they use enough charisma and obfuscate the issues enough, they will appeal to the confused and weak-minded and end up gaining even though their actual argument gets shredded.
I thought we were done talking about creationism!?

That bunch of nuts, thiefs, embesslers and murderers opened a shop in our shopping street. They pretend to do 'free stress tests' in order to lure people in. And they wave and say hello to everyone on the street.

it gives me a certain satisfaction to yell 'Occultists! Murderers! Sectarians!! at them - the police is next door and refuses to aid them to stop me - after all I am correct
