...how does it work?

what do you need to do to get the Caesar title after completing a game?

does time or techs matter?

does it matter which method of victory you choose? for instance, is conquest more valuable than space race or diplomatic victory?

space race and diplomatic victory obviously take much longer to accomplish....

The biggest factor in scoring is time. The sooner you achieve victory, the higher your final score will be.

You do get points during the course of the game for techs you research, population in your civ, buildings you construct and Wonders you have under your control. Then the time factor kicks in... you essentially get your score multiplied by a factor based on how long it takes you to finish the game.

This means that Conquest and Domination victories tend to get the highest scores... even those who get Space Race and Cultural victories in a good time frame are often going to war to take over the cities of other civs or wiping out civs entirely. It's about the only way to really boost your score or get to any of the victory conditions sooner.

If you have the scores toggled on-screen, you can hover your mouse over your score, and at the bottom left a box appears that tells you exactly how it's being broken down. It will even tell you what your final score would be if you won that turn.

You get points for population, land, technology, wonders, and then it's all affected by what year you win in. You can get a rank of Ceasar regardless of victory condition. If you want higher scores, conquering more land is usually the key, along with growing your cities bigger and winning at earlier dates. And of course, playing on higher difficulty levels.

thanks for the responses...what do you mean by win that turn? like if I were to achieve space race, conquest, etc. on that particular turn?

Yes. The actual victory type doesn't factor into the score, so all it's doing is taking your total current score in game, then giving you a bonus for how early you would finish the game if you won on that turn.
