I've read on here about people sending in their scratched discs to firaxis for replacement. How do I do that? Mine won't install anymore, and I zapped my hard drive, so no civ :(

ive read funny things about placing in in the fridge or perhaps wipe it with toothpaste to restore a CD... but dude... its only like £4 to buy off ebay now.. so is it really worth the fuss?

There's also that wheel thing that scratches off the whole layer of plastic or whatever on a disc... what the hell is that thing called again? I think I saw one at EB.

....My mate had a Audio CD that was scratched, Guess what he did....

...he took ir to his Burnishing wheel and completely repolished it and then stuck it in the HIFI and it played.....CHAAAAAAAAAAMON!

Kids, dont try this at home!

Contact Firaxis/Atari to find out. When I scratched mine some time ago (a few weeks after it came out) all I had to do was send the disk to them with $10 and they sent me a new one right away.

Follow this link for more information

CivIII is $9.99 off Amazon. You could probably find it cheaper elsewhere (eBay, local store, new & used). Why bother sending a disk in with $10 to get a new one when you can get a new shiny game? :)

anyone else see that as odd, or jus me? Ive already said anyway, eBay.com is the way forwards.

you already payed the money,so you can honorably download it if you want.no need to pay 10 bucks for a replacement.or at least, thats how i see it.

About that disc-polisher thingy talked about by Crimso, there are a few different ones, but the old one I remember is the Disc Dr. It came out around the middle of Playstation 1's life as a disc polisher. I saw it just recently somewhere.

And this is why it shouldn't be illegal to make backup copies of games. The DMCA, and similiar laws outside the US, hurts consumers without substantially hindering copyright infringement.

Unfortunately, downloading a copy is probably also illegal according to the DMCA, since it attempts to circumvent a copy protection measure. Also it is probably not a good idea, since running an unverified binary on your machine allows it to be compromised.
