Is there any plan to bring it back? search funtion is the most important feature in any forums, I don't know if the admins or mods here understand that. I know it takes more server resources but you can limit one search every 60 seconds for example.

I'm very familiar with vb board, and the average of 300 users online at any moment is quite busy, but compare to other sites it's nothing. I've seen tons of site that are busier and they have no problem with search function.

i.e webhostingtalk.com is much more busier than this forum, but if I remember correctly they operated by 3 servers, one for files, 1 for databases and so on.... Have the admin of this site thought about it?

The servers are not cheap, I know, I do have a cheap server myself at servermatrix, but there are plenty of new DC that have reasonable price with exellent network like Gnax. I don't know about the price to run this site, but my guess is it's a lot higher than the DCs I've mentioned above.

Or even more, make a premium membership for people want to do a search or so on, doing this you get paid and at the same time fulfill the request that let only people who reallly want the search use the search. All in all, I still believe search function is the most fundamental one and can't be ignored.

It also in my limited knowledge very hard to do. As all the threads are hosted on the same server that the search uses. You'd still get server busy messages.

And oh yes: In the time since I have joined the search function has almost never been on and I have gotten along with out it.

Telefragged was planning to upgrade the forum server soon, but I haven't heard much from them about it. I will email them about it.

I definitely plan to bring search function back because it IS the most useful forum feature. I just hope that Telefragged can upgrade the server soon so we can turn search on after we upgrade the forum to vB 3.0. vB 3.0 is currently at release candidate version 4 so the official vB 3.0 version shouldn't be too far away (within a month or two, most likely).

In the meantime, could you put it on at select times (like Monday at 4, or something like that ). If someone wants to find a long lost thread (as opposed to sifting through 15 pages to find it).

I used to re-enable search on Saturdays, but I stopped doing that because it was a bad idea. Everyone was saving their searches for Saturdays.

I have rarely used search. I never have a thing to search for and i don't want to waste my time seeing that message saying that it is disabled.

Dang, a month or two until my precious Mac OSX Style is gone. Dang, I like this Style too . . . excepot for the lack of PM full thingie, but I don't care about that. I think about 20 PMs is the max, I start deleting at 20 anyway . . .

Well, if vB 3.0 enable search, I might forgive it not having my precious Mac OSX Style (yesssssss my precious, yessssssssss . . . )

Search has been re-enabled now. Telefragged informed me that they added more RAM to the server recently.

I plan to leave search on if it just gives server busy message once in a while.

Hopefully we don't need to disable search again too quickly...

PS: As a precaution, I increased the time between searches to 120 seconds.

Well, if it will, I would be sad, but I have been finding Turnip Green a decent alternative. Mac OSX is mising some key deatures, that get annoying. If it comes back, could you please try to make sure that it has all the features as the second one.

I very much liked the new advanced search firm at another civ site, which multiple entry filed like an advanced web serach, until I discovered that its scrip was broken, and not much what terms you used, it would search for 'resource'.
