Thank you, Thunderfall. It was missed. [dance] [dance] [dance] [dance]

FYI the search function has been turned off again, because of those big news items (i.e. 2nd Civ3 expansion annoucenment). I will turn it back on in a few days. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Wishy-washy on the search feature, aren't we? ;)
I'd rather have the search feature off, than to have the forums slow down to a crawl (like it was for the past week, for me).

But then, I don't use the feature... :p

Well, I do. . .and it sux not being able to search.

At work, after I've 'cleared' all the new messages, I use the 'View new posts' at the top of the main forums page to see what's new. Keeps me from having to hit each forum.

Oh well. . . it'll get turned back on eventually.

And eventually, it was turned off once again. I hate it when that happens (especially when I get a system failure immediately after I finally found the threads I posted in... but that's monday morning for sure :( )

Hopefully we don't need to do the turn off / turn back on thing after the server upgrade... :)

This is more than a few days TF. ;)

I second the motion to restricting the search to one forum at a time - during the busy times. Would that help TF or would it not reduce the load enough or be too much of a pain to go back and forth between full search and one forum search? If it is too much of a pain it might just be better to go with 1 forum search all the time.....I don't see much of a need for a non-mod to search more than one forum at a time anyway....

I know. :) But I think I will leave it off for the next 2 weeks. Telefragged said they will upgrade the server in Mid June. That's not too long wait...

... and in the meantime, it might help to just use the "show threads sorted by ..." option, at least on some occasions. It's very easy if I'm searching for a thread w/ numerous replies, for example.

Alas, that will not help me. Thanks anyways!

Yep, and if the thread you're looking for has an average number or replies, you could sort it by thread name. It might take a little while to find the right page, but it's still better than nothing. That is, unless you're searching for a topic, such as "musketmen."

Search funtion is disabled again, I guess because of the bandwidth problem....

But it's the most useful feature in the forum. It's surprised me that there is somebody who has never used it :).

No, the "post reply" feature is the most useful feature in the forum. ;) I guess if you don't post new threads (and therefore don't need to check if it's been posted before, or if you just don't care whether it's been posted before, or a mix of the two) and you don't look for much info on Civ, then you probably wouldn't use the search feature. Of course, you'd think that'd rule out everyone.

I myself agree; the search feature is very useful. :)
