Strider said he has hasn't won every election, but that was before my time, so I suppose you can say that this "team" hasn't lost, at least I haven't...hmm... I don't think we've been working like a political party, I mean, Strider is a valued friend and I don't denny I like working with him in the Council but to go sa far as to think we are a quasi-political party....I don't know..

LOL..... Yeah.... Most people weren't here whhen I was starting my campaign.

But this is interesting...are we witnessing the birth of a political movement of sorts? an alternative to parties? I wonder. It is strangely odd and wonderfull to see the organizational power of the people emerge even when at odds with some sorts of organization.

The reason political parties are disallowed is to avoid people voting in blocks along party lines. If it happens because people happen to agree with each other, that is fine. If it happens because it is organized, that is another story altogether.

I agree with [edit]people[/edit], this was the reason why this was made a law oh so long ago.

:D funny mis-post

Now I understand this thread. It took me two pages to realize we weren't talking about the post-election parties we keep forgetting to invite Strider to...

octavian, the state were in now is a miserable one: inefficiency, deadlock, unending postponement of issue resolution, and vigilante political parties all plague us. the guys over at demogyptica have parties, but i dont see their game falling apart at the seams.
also, multi-position issues are where parties are most important, otherwise everyone votes for their own, slightly different opinion and there is never any consensus.
there has been concern about parties drowning out the voice of the minority, as a green party supporter in the us, id like to know where you think the greens would be if they couldnt form a party? a coalition system would be best if we allowed party formation, as that would insure that large parties have to listen to and cooperate with minority ones. i reccommend the german political system as a template.

Lack of political parties has nothing to do with any 'floundering' that is going on.

@ NL. - And the Green party would have never needed to form a party if it weren't a two-party system in the US, that only the rich can play in. Sorry, I don't see the logic in your approach...

That is something that I still don't understand.... Every other demogame works fine with parties.... As long as you put in proper rules you can fix all of those problems.... I think people have just been to lazy to do it through ;)

All I ever hear about is bickering and impeachment from the other worlds...

Since the inception of the Civ3 Democracy Game here at CFC, there has never been a legal political party. We finished the first game in five months. Apolytonia, in its fifth term, is still trudging through the middle ages. Granted, the play was extremely accelerated in that first term. However, when is the last time the game play grinded to a halt because of major disagreements of two groups of people? We have arguments over the science queue every once in a while, but we haven't completely put off a chat.

My point is, our democracy game has run fine without parties, is running fine without parties, and will always run fine without parties. If you want to be in a party, I suggest you go to another demogame, or start your own.
