I think it actually didn't show the results, until after the little units danced, before one of the patches...
But anyway, I imagine there's some kind of tweak you can pull off in Python... If so, the function-call that displays the actual battle results shouldn't be too hard to find; and once you do, it's probably just a matter of cutting those few lines of code, and pasting them down below whatever code calls for the function that makes all the unit animations and stuff run. At least, it shouldn't be much more complex than that, I'd imagine.
Of course, I'm liable to imagine some pretty inaccurate things, considering I've never really done anything with Python, outside of merging some mods. For all I know, one may have to wait for the SDK to change it...
