Sesn03 - Bad Apple Goes To War

If the "oof" is because of a feast mode issue, you can relax a bit Tomoyo.

I can't touch this before Sunday night at the earliest anyhow. :)

It's not a feast mode issue... I'm only in two SGs and I'm only up in this one.

It's just that recently I haven't been playing much civ.

EDIT: Oh, by the way, I'm done with five turns.

600AD (0): We are muchly behind in techs, but that's okay. Cavs are (hopefully) all we'll need.

IT: Lose the MDI next to the Hittite capital.

610AD (1): Kill a LBM, demote an elite sword.

IT: Celts come to renew peace. Accept.

620AD (2): Capture Aarhus.

630AD (3): Alalah razed. This founded. This? That was the default name. Aleppo captured.

IT: Alex demands territory map and 18 gold. Cave.

640AD (4): Sign peace with Vikings and buy Metallurgy for 53 gold. Start on Military Tradition (10 turns)

650AD (5): Not much.

IT: Whoa, whoa! How did that Hittite LBM next to Hareid get there? (We lose Hareid)

660AD (6): Damnit, there's a Hittite pike on our saltpeter.

670AD (7): We capture Ankuwa with spices. Oryx founded. Capture Hareid back.

I was kinda in a daze for the last three turns, but the Hittites are down to one city, which is defended by two redlined muskets, with three knights, one swordsman, and one MDI ready to strike. The question is, do we want to kill the Hittites and then be obliged to attack the Arabs, or we can make peace, then atack the Arabs, right?

I would kill 1 musket, get peace and any and all techs we can, then turn on someone else.

Sorry for the delay guys. I have it now, turns will be up sometime tonight.

Well, it would have been up last night if my stupid Comcast wasn't being hinky. :(

You know, it’s funny to see elites being used as MP. I almost start pulling them before I realize the reasoning. I’m gonna have to sandbag a bit here. We still have a couple turns left on a deal with Arabia. In fact, we have current trades with everyone right now. I figure we’ll take the couple Arabian towns, take that Viking town, then we can work on the guys on the mainland for real.

I kill the two muskets in Kadesh, promoting a knight and losing another. An archer still stands there.

710 AD (1) – Hmm. I notice a pike outside Oryx that I can’t get to in time. What to do, what to do? I eventually decide to abandon rather than give them the satisfaction of burning it.

720 AD (2) – Pick off the offending pike. Bombard Kadesh and it’s archer, just for fun.

730 AD (3) – Whatever the reason, the people offer to put steps on the palace. OK. Call Hittites, take peace, Republic, and their 2 workers. They’re done. Call up Arabia and tell them we have a problem. Kill a spear in Fez, move on Muscat. City of Sebennetus founded in S jungle. A single scientist is enough to finish off MT, apparently.

740 AD (4) – MT in, start Astronomy. Realize we don’t have salt hooked up, and pull some workers to fix that. Vet knight wins and promotes at Fez. One spear left there. Muscat suffers a different fate as it gets the torch. We do lose a MDI in the process though.

IT – See some privateers fighting Greek ships.

750 AD (5) – Build Do or Dye near ruins of Muscat. Oryx Again also founded. Two more knights take down Fez. This one we’ll keep. Do or Dye is essentially a choke now, given the land layout.

760 AD (6) – Trade Sumeria Gems and Wines for WM, 164g, and 26gpt to feed our research/upg budget. The map shows that they and Greece are both building rails. We may have to scratch and claw for this one yet. Pi-Ramses built in the SW swamps.

IT – Amusingly, all the units around Stavanger I was getting ready to attack start heading back home. :)

770 AD (7) – The people come and build a west wing on the palace. I haveen’t really done anything. :hmm: Rush a rax in Do or Dye.

IT – See a Hittite galley sink a privateer before a second comes out of Hattusha (Greek) and takes him down.

780 AD (8) – Salt is finally hooked up. Once Astronomy comes in, we should shut down research for a couple turns to complete our upgrades. I find it almost painful to upgrade an elite knight. Spend a good chunk of our treasury upgrading knights.

IT – Greeks begin US. We need to get them and Sumeria fighting each other, I think.

790 AD (9) – Now we get an east wing. Damn, I’m good. :D

800 AD (10) – Send a cav to scout Anjar and he whacks a LB. See that the Viking units are still in the area, just shuffled a bit. Will make it easier to put the hurt on them.

Recap – Didn’t do much with the upgrades and all. Also waiting for the deal to be done with Ragnar. We have a decent stack in Do or Dye, so we should be able to take out all his slow movers pretty easily. I figured we would take Stavanger, try to get some concessions for peace, take Anjar, and then move on the Celts. Didn’t do any deals because I wanted to discuss the possibility of getting Greece and Sumeria into a war to slow them a bit. I dislike the placement of Anjar, I would rather move it I would rather there were two cities, one 2 SW, and one 1N, 1NW of the current spot, which would give us a nice little canal city too. Astronomy comes in 1. Not enough changed to warrant a pic. Have not seen a single Arabian attacker yet. We may want to establish some embassies to keep better tabs on everyone. Still a few turns left on our peace with the Vikings. Oh, and I've basically been irrigating everything east and south of the mountains to get those cities growing, at least until we can get to communism.

M60 - UP!
SW - On Deck

I'm up in Handy19 and Igor_1AA at the moment, so I probably won't do anything until tomorrow night. Feel free to comment until then.

I concur with the Sumeria Vs Greece war. It would be great for us, plus satisfy our requirement of loving our neighbor.
In this case we are loving them by heaping huge piles of crap on them, but everyone needs fertilizer don't they?

You know, for someone who works with numbers so much, you sure do have a way with words, Romeo.

I'll leave it up to M60's discretion on how he wants to work this. We are talking about having potentially three wars going on at once here. Of course, if we can just institue WWIII, then so much the better for us, I suppose. :)

Actually Sesn, I believe that I missed my true calling of being a salesman.
I do engineering because I am good at it, not because I like it. I talked my boss into hiring me on full time, benefitting me and paying me at significantly more than the state average. I start September 1st, and my lack of play time is directly due to the transition period of finishing up my masters stuff. I turned in the last piece of paperwork today, and should be ready to play on Sat.

Also with working with numbers so much, you become naturally gifted at finding euphamisms for the malarky you are dealing with. (Dropping multiple curse words or threatening people directly out here is really bad).
Anyway, back to the game. I would definitly start the Greece war. We would really like the extra salt, as the AI salts will quickly be pillaged and we can sell it for techs. Our plan right now should involve researching like mad till rails, then convert the Arabs.

Have to admit I'm having second thoughts about the rules we agreed to, with Bede jumping in at the creation of any MGL. This could get tedious. Oh well...

The save at 840AD

We have a Mr. Ramses at the Viking border, so time for Mr. Mischief to have some fun. :mischief:

It's time to play "Let's Make a Deal"

Brilliant quote SW. One of my all time favorites.
It looks like the Greek War might still be a go, we just need to use gpt.

I see no reason to kick one of the 500 lb. gorillas in the knickers right now. ;)

The way this typically plays out is that the dominant AI preys on it's weaker siblings (Viking/Celts). If we just quietly go about our business, we can push down the peninsula, gobbling up some Celtic land. That puts us closer to getting at the Arabs who have Leo's in Damascus. That can buy us a ton of discount upgrades. :D

Now if evil alliances are your thing, the play would be declare on Netherlands, and ally Greece. Alex sends his offensive troops through Sumeria to do battle. 20 turns later, end the alliance and declare on Greece, bringing in Sumeria. At this point all of the best Greek troops are trapped in the southeast corner, allowing us an opportunity for some mayhem. :ar15:

Well M60 the wildcard with that Idea is the whole bad monk scenario. That would be a sound plan in a normal game, but I am not sure that Bede would let us get that complicated without pulling some brilliant manuevers.
I used elites as MP's both in this game and in the originator for this game. Now Sesn with the original didn't wasshisname say that the bad apple was subjected to noogies?
