You have a point, Romeo. Should I lock the MGL away so no others can be generated? That way there's no wildcard and our Apple only comes in as we choose. :p
 
No, we will need the army for the Greek War. Once we have the army, we can build the MA then cashrush armies or such.
A Knight army will probably be needed to take out the greek cities nearest us. Once we have the victorious army, Bede can't screw us too badly in that department. He could have just rushed a temple with him and continued to make us leaderless.
He also has come up with original "sins" as opposed to just repeating stuff Microbe did in the original. The best sign, we didn't lose our FP city yet.

Turn 4 post-mischief:

Army is built with Ramses and takes Stavanger defended by 2 muskets.
Kill 2 Ansars, lose a cav
Kill 3 vike zerks, MI and pike at cost of a cav
re-set happy level

IBT- Dropped below zero in cash- Don't ask me the last time I've done something like THAT. :mad: Lose our library in Heliopolis.

Turn 5
Raze and replace Stavanger.
Kill 6 zerks, 3MI, 2 pikes of vikes.
Kill Arab ansar and LB

IBT- Ansars come back with a vengance. We lose 2 pikes and an MI. We lose stack of 7 cats.

Turn 6
Kill 9 ansars and the cats are back. :)

IBT- zzz

Turn 7
Rest some of the troops
Capture a nice Arab town on the peninsula. :)

IBT- Dang. 3 ansars are dropped off by caravel into our defenseless southern rear.

Turn 8
Rush settler in Athribis.

IBT- Arabs take Sebennytus from us. :(

Turn 9
Kill 2 defenders in Sebennytus, leaves one ansar.
We have a couple cities riot. :sad:

IBT- Not much

Turn 10
Take back Sebennytus. :)
Peace with Ragnar for 7g and WM. We don't need any zerk landings, the defense is thin in our rear.
Kill Ansar
Declare on Celts.
Capture two towns.
The next one has salt. :)
We can get physics at a discount for peace from Abu. Not that we need to. ;)
 
I must say, Bede has been throwing us some real wrenches here guys, but we've done a good job of making them seem like not a huge deal. Looks like we'll have the salt back very shortly, and I can't believe our rep is still intact at this point in the game. :goodjob:

And yes, I would also minimize the use of elites to keep Bede on the sidelines as much as possible. However, in this case, I'll gladly trade the army for a few turns without salt.

ONe of the things I promised myself is that I would not do anything that would cause a reputation hit, it's too (ch)easy. But forgetting about the leader was not smart on my part.....
 
I don't know Bede, you gave us 2 completely worthless techs for all our spare goods. That is pretty dang evil.
At least you sold them to the right guy.
I like the fact that you haven't wrecked the reputation.

preturn - seems all ok. just get 2 more taxmen from a resisting town.
will rest up for a turn then pound the celts.

IBT- we get a nice mixed pink-green SoD coming at us. lots of greek ships moving about.

1- Hattutas settler > settler, GoldFish musket > knight, Gem Warfare market > library,
Sumer sets up an embassey on our porch.
Kill 10 LBs (celt and arab) while retreating back into town. get 3 E cavs for my trouble.

IBT- pirates are rife and they hate greeks.
some LBs stepped into my office.

2- Byblos cav > dral,
build Golden Nugget > worker.
Eboracum is ours for just a few drops of blood.
wait for some healing to be done.
i love fast movement via own borders.
kill another 8 assorted troops. no loss, get 2 more Es. running out of vets here.

IBT- GREEKS AND CELT EMBARGO US.
Gilgamesh wants TM and 32g. dont feel like yet another front, so give in.
AND then i remember that HE HAS ALL OUR LUXES, RESOURCES AND WHATNOTS. i deserve a sound :spank:

3- Edfu pike > pike, Iron Skillet pike > pike, Mansura harbor > caravel, This temple > settler,
lose a MDI on Anjar, but got a E* knight here.
and retake it with a handy cav that just said :wavey:
kill some more.
cut the celt horses, as they threw a few cavs our way.
army damages Verulamium but not ours. i plan on razing it, after that flip...
still no leader....

IBT- 3 Ansars and 2 LBs implale themselves on our cavs's bayonets.

4- Memphis pike > cav, (yep. we got some new slat here :dance: ) Heliopois knight > cav, Tire Iron Too aqua > cannon,
army takes Virusville. ill keep it.
build Abydos > cannon,
change loots of knight builds to cavalry ones, mostly costing just another turn.
upgrade some trebs to cannons.

IBT- im very stupid, and Virusville is retaken, losing us a cav.

5- lose a cav, but Aden is ours. and razed.
retake Virus-Ville. better defended now.

pause for consultation.
notice we get THE HEROIC EPIC next turn.
do we really want it, or is that one of the :devil:s tricks?
 
The HE doesn't trigger our monk friend (The evil monk, not to be confused with the good monk :D ).
It is quasi hard to determine what is happening in your log, but it seems to make sense. Bede gets a chance every time we do one fo the following
a) go into anarchy
b) Trigger a G.A.
c) get a great leader, either MGL or SGL
d) anytime an opponent exits the game.
If I remember right from the original game he can only appear 1 time per 10 turns, so if we do trigger him, revolt to a new government, leaderfish like mad etc.
Sesn has to confirm that though
 
Well, it was probably me who started the thing, but I can't see any real use for the build. We don't want to use the elites as it is, so how are we going to generate more leaders?

Is there something more productive the build can be changed to?

Edit: I don't remember the once per ten thing at all, to be honest. However, I had to bail out before that game got to a point where we could do a ton of leader fishing too. Also though, Locomotive (the originator) was gone before me, so unless that rule was stated in the beginnning, it may have been modified on the fly. I'll have to look into it.
 
I was reading in another game of mine and the MA was mentioned. Why don't we switch the build to that? Far more useful than the HE, and armies can be rushed if it isn't a hugely productive city.

EDIT2: Just scrolled through the first couple pages of the original thread and didn't see anything about a once per turn set rule. I think the limitation opens a window to exploit, a window I don't think we need, so I don't really like it, but I'm gonna put it to a vote anyhow.

it seemed like the better build, but just had to make sure.

my vote would be to allow bede to enter each time a great event happened.
i dreadfully trust his fairness if it will happen more than once a turnset, to not overindulge.
 
Ill vote for every major event as well. He hasn't pillaged us too badly, lets just not give him lots of gpt to work with. The first game bought a really pricey WM.

our situation is ok on the warfront (around 8-10 bogeys per lost unit)
we are however very short of vet troops (a large portion is already of E status)
we have salt again, so cavs are being remade now.
greece has railways.

IBT- :sleep:

6- 17-1;Giza;Winery II; We Smell Good all go > cav >cav, El Ashumain aqua > market,
move onwards.

IBT- massive riots require we up the slider up another notch.

7- Do or Dye temple > library,
Burdigalia is ours (lose 1 cav, 4 others retreat)
Augustusdorum is taken (lose 1 cav, retreat 2) and razed. we get 13 slaves from this township.

IBT- lose 5 cavs (all those poor redlined ones) also lose our newly caught slaves. which runs straight into greek lands?
dutch - celt embargo is now in place.
viking are building US.

8- Elephantine cav > cav,
rush a settler in some old celt town. too much free space down here.
army kills 2 ansars and a cav and plops on the celts iron mountain.
the cannons are trudging towards Entremont.

IBT- Hiitie-Arabian embargo signed.
Virus-Ville loses 2 cavs, killing 4 ansars.
we see some fresh Arabs Rifles now.
celts want to talk peace.
they offer NAVIGATION as a bonous. i accept. they now have 3 towns, all over the land.

9- Heliopolis cav > cav, settler in ebucarum, Pitom market > musket,
Sumerians are building ToE.
hired beakerheads have cut physics time by two turns, so now i cut off another 10%.

IBT- PHYSICS in. MAGNETS in 14.

10- Byblos dral > cav,
move about.

i think MA is due in 5-7 turns.
