Depsite being a fantastic game over all, Civ II seems to have one downside compared to Civ II, that being its rather annoying editor. There is no zoom, no coastline protect, and most annoying of all, no way to set start locations for specific nations. In my wildest dreams, I cannot imagine why they negelcted this feature. Well enough ranting,... I've noticed some folks have created fixes to this problem regarding the world map, allowing you to play with the Civs starting in their Historical positions.

Anyone know a way to choose where to start every nation in your own, or other player created maps? I know there is a file extension called *.cpf that controlls this, but I haven't the foggiest on how to create or edit one of them. Keep In mind, my programing ability is quite basic :)

Any help would be...well...Helpful

Thanks (I hope) in advance,

Well, there is a way to make each Civ start at a specific location even if on a custom map. To do this you need the Civ3Copy Tool made by Gramphos (available at the utility section of the forum).

Once you make a map, note the coordinate of each of the starting location you put on the map in the editor. Start a game by selecting a Civ, then save the game at 4000BC. Now use the Civ3CopyTool's savegame editor function to move the units to the location that you want by changing their coordinates. Reactivate the Fog Of War function in the editor. Voila! Now every Civ starts at the location you wanted.

The only setback with this is that you need to post 16 version of the savegame file for each of the 16 Civs :p
