Hi, is settling on resources good or bad?

Does settling on bonus resources (sheep, wheat, cattle, etc) give more food/production to the city tile, as if there is a pasture/farm?

How about luxury and strategic resource tiles? Will the city get the extra food/production, plus the resource?

The city tile always gives you the same production no matter what's on the tile, so if you settle on a resource tile, you get quick access to the resource, but no bonus production.

Normally this would be "bad," but the resource production bonuses are so weak that it's not really that important.

Tiles that produce a base 3 Food will still give you 3 Food if Settled. Tiles that produce a base 2-4 Gold will give you the Gold. I'm not sure if you get the 3 Hammers from Iron Hills, but I bet that you do.

As a rule, settling on base 3 Food tiles is a good idea, since you don't want to work them later on anyway. Settling on Calendar luxuries that improve with Food and Gold is usually also a good idea. Settling on Mined luxuries that improve with Hammers and Gold isn't as attractive, because Hammers are hard to come by and you will want to work that tile.

Settling on Sheep or Plains Wheat is a bad idea, because those are desirable tiles to work until you get improvements going and you get no bonuses.
