SG for Under 10's

I don't think he knows about the exploits, but I keeping coming home from work and finding new saves... Linebacker should be able to take a look at this tomorrow night and post some comments.

Game is up, read this post

I've updated the first three posts with the game info. If everyone could check in that would be good, and I'm also missing some info on some of the players. All in-game dicussions should be initated as much as we can by the kids. The adults are the moderators, although we should obviously help them with anything they don't understand.

I'm going to get Kep to have a look tomorrow and post his comments about how to play this. Ideally each child will do the same, even if its a quick post, just to get to know each other. A quick sentance on how old, and where they are would be good too.

My brothers name is Vostos

I (smackster) interviewed Kep and here is his description of the plans for the first few turns. I'm writing in his account.

First of all we had a discussion about attacking Spain, as they are so close to us, but for realism in this game, I think we should not initiate any European continent wars. So if we fight people its got to be in the new world, where ever that may be.

Next we talked about Caravels noting that we do have 3. First one we will load with the explorer and a longbow, and send it west. Next we will build a settler in Lisbon and load it into the second Caravel, with a pikeman. The third Caravel we will load the MI and send it south to have a closer look at Africa.

We should research Printing Press->Colonization (at 60%) as they allow us to build the colonization unit and then we can start getting the new world resources, so that we can get the treasure units.

The full build view will be as follows:

Lisbon -> Settler
Oporto -> Caravel (going west)
Cape Verde -> Longbow
Madeira->Caravel (going north)
Azores->Caravel (going south)
Cueta->Explorer

:confused: :scan: :goodjob: :nuke: :sad: :king: :mad: :p :)

(smilies by Kep)

Nice smilies ;)

How are we going to play this? Like a normal succession gme?

hi, my name is Duimelot. i am 9 yrs old. i live in Holland.

I want to make a worker in Ceuta to make Wine. The explorer needs to go in the Caravel and it should sail west after the Azores. Maybe we should learn how to sail further, so start Magnetism.

bye bye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :band: :hatsoff: :spear:

hi, I'm DragonRunner's younger brother. This is my first time playing Civ. I am 7 years old.

Hello and welcome to all,

We are going to play this like a standard SG, 10 turns each. As the game is started, even the first player will play just 10 (unlike most SG's).

Kep should be playing tomorrow night, and I'll make sure he takes everyones advice. My main role working as the mentor with Kep is to make sure he knows why he's doing everything and to write it down, otherwise he is on is own :eek:
Obviously I'll explain any rules and uses, but in the end deciding where to move troops and what to build is up to you guys, and of course that is how I'd want the other mentors to play it.

Sound good to me. :)

It'll give some unexpected results probably, since other than knowing the basic controls, Duimelot has no real experience playing the game. I am sure it'll be an interesting game to follow! :thumbsup:

Ok, so I suggest you use your judgement to put her in the right direction. Kep has played a lot, but is only 7.

I think I am quite good and won't need to much help, normally regent :goodjob:

After linebacker, maybe after this we could set up a random map game?

I updated the roster in post 2, but I'll keep posting it so we are all in synch. Kep is playing tonight (if he does his homework in time).

Here is the Roster

Kep (smackster) - playing
Linebacker (Admiral Kutzov) on deck
Duimelot (a space oddity)
Triple_C (vostos)
The Dude (DragonRunner)

24 hours "I got it", 72 hours "to play" with a lot of flex. The "I got it" can come from the mentor.

Here is the save

This is the post for Kep, I wrote down what he did. Not sure how to use the same computer for logging in as him, as the forum knows its me?

T0 1490AD
Decided to research Printing Press so that we can get the colonising unit, and set the path towards the new resources.

These are the initial builds. Cueta was changed to a worker from my original suggestion, based on advice from Duimelot

Lisbon -> Settler
Oporto -> Caravel (going west)
Cape Verde -> Longbow
Madeira->Caravel (going north)
Azores->Caravel (going south)
Cueta->Worker

First Caravel with MI from Cape Verde Islands goes south along Africa, sees some Iron on a hill. MI jumps off and finds some Ivory.

Second Caravel with LB and Explorer heads of west to the Azores.

Worker starts on road

IBT
Lisbon borders expand, over a Spanish LB, who is very close to Lisbon.

We see a Spanish ship sail west

T1 1491AD

Caravel continues south along African coast

IBT
Holland (typical) comes threatening, for 33 gold, as we have a lot decide to give it to them, don't want an early war

Longbow from Spain fortifies next to Lisbon

T2 1492AD
Decide not to ask the LB to leave, I'm sure he'll be polite.

Caravel from Africa moves into the ocean to see if there are islands out there

Caravel going west spies some sea, could there be land?

We decide to talk to the other countries, noting that Spain has horses, and we don't

T3 1493AD
Ceuta worker-explorer, worker moves to wine
Other worker roading wheat

Our Caravel finds coast way out west and then moves north along the coast and we meet the Iroqois.

Iroqois.jpg

We contact them and they have gold and don't know anybody
else. But we don't want to give them anything.
We send the explorer onto land, protected by the LB. We think about fighting the Iroquos as they just have Mounted Warrior, but then a little birdy reminds me that we only have a Longbow.

T4 1494AD
Lisbon Settler->Worker

We move the explorer and see more Iroqois Mounted Warriors, and we see the English who've landed on our new land. Our Caravel moves and we see the French coming our way, don't they know this is our land.

Off the coast of Africa we find another little island

IBT We spy the Netherlands on our land now too, we found it first

T5 1495AD
Lisbon worker->longbow

Our Longbow kills a barbarian archer (2/3)

Land hoi, as our African Caravel finds more land out west, could it be Brazil? Seems very close and very big.

We decide to trade with Iroqouis (a very little prompting by a very little voice). They have 125 gold and we trade that for contact with England who they are about to meet anyway.

T6 1496AD
We find that we can't move on Desert or Tundra in this game.

We put the settler and a pikeman in to the Caravel and send them out to the new lands

We look at the trade screen again and find that England and Netherlands will trade for our world map, which we get 80 gold for

T7 1497AD

We note that the spanish long bow has gone, after Lisbon expanded last turn.

The french have a city on the new world, Quebec.

Caravel with the settler moves west, and decides that it likes a spot on the new world near some fur, so that we can build the Trapper Camp, and get some tresure.

We find some really nice land in Brazil (horses, cattle, wheat) although its a long way away.

T8 1498AD
Lisbon builds a colonist from Dias Voyage
We notice that we can build Knights as the worker has roaded the horse, and change Lisbon to Knight

The wine is roaded but we have no harbour so can't trade it. Next player can decide if they want to.

Our Medieval Infantry in deepest darkest Africa finds three archers in a barb camp, one of them is regular????

The English have a settler on our furs, and the Dutch have a settler close by, we can't get there with ours

We find the cape of good hope at the tip of South America.

IBT Both the Dutch and English settlers move away from the furs

T9 1499AD
Our settler arrives on the new continent and now has a little walk to get to the furs.

Settler in Cueva is changed to a Caravel, we have 4 Caravels being built

The MI kills a barb archer

T10 1500AD
Oport Caravel->Knight

Caravel is built and loads with explorer and settler, we decide to wait for the Knight which is built in 2 turns, so the next player needs to wait for that.

Caravel starts back home

Settler moves in land towards the furs, so that it will build a city there, road the furs and then build the trapper colony, which will make Treasure units.
Note the Dutch are right there this turn.

The MI kills another barb archer

Our Caravel is around the cape now and sees gold in dem dere hills

That's all for this turn.
