SG Lurkers, ready?

Sir Toma said:
edit: is it possible to play in to SG's at the one time or does it make life hell

Why the hell doesn't anyone answer my questions:mad:

ps. i can't believe i quoted my own post

pps. great work so far, i suggest we take some of the land to the north

ppps. i haven't bailed out

pppps. thats all:D

:goodjob:
Hindu yet again.
And again with the aggressive neighbors.
Hopefully we can cultivate Saladin and the Persians as uhm friends, to keep Tokuwaga and Napelon occupied

Skirmishers are decent early units. Helps a lot with keeping barbs in check. ;)

No marble, no stone. Bummer.
We can still probably get either the Oracle or Stonehedge.
Oracle is useful for a theology sling shot. It'd be hard to get both, unless we chop like mad. If we settle the coastal areas aggressively and manage to spread our religions, we're going to be awash in cash

A lot of redundant resources. Good for trading. One thing I'm weak on is the diplomatic front, as I tend to trade indiscriminately, ending up with a lot of annoyed neighbors heh.

And again thanks to all for sticking through the Lurker 1 disaster. :worship:

Oops! Apologies.
Depends on your available time
I have time for two or three SG's.
I work but no kids and a gaming wife who doesn't mind how much I play Civ :p

I generally don't go for Pyramids, either, even though the free engineer is nice. I did get them once, but I beelined for metal casting, chopped a forge and had a high production town (industrous, of course.) Still they are so expensive, they lock up the constructing city for a looong time.

(1) 2560 BC.
Immediately switch to building a warrior instead of a worker. City size of two is a
little small to be building a worker with not much to do.
Warrior due in 11, city growth in 11. Should have at least somebody
looking after our city. Will switch back to a worker once we have
work for him to do, and extra pop will complete the worker faster.

(2) 2520 BC.
Moving warriors, looking for city building sites.

(3) 2480 BC.
Warrior east of our capitol spots a whale off the coast, will be dropping a settler over here later.
Feel free to discus options for future city placement.

whales0hu.jpg

(4) 2440 BC.
NW warrior detects lions in the distance. Hunting due next turn.

(5) 2400 BC.
Hunting completed. Start work on agriculture.

(6) 2360 BC.
Eastern Warrior spots a lion, heading into the bush for defensive bonus.

(7) 2320 BC.
Eastern Warrior beats lion easily, down to 1.7, miller time for him. Heals in two.
NW warrior spots another lion. Moving onto the hills, daring the lion to
give me some xp.

(8) 2280 BC.
Our Warrior on the hill beats the lion, but needs five turns to recover.
lions4st.jpg

Our entire military force is recovering.
Warriors are on their way to promotion-ville though. Need more beasties.

(9) 2240 BC.
Eastern Warrior spots a bear. Wrong kind of beastie! Sticking to the hills,
if he wants some of me, he can try an uphill battle.

(10) 2200 BC.
Borders of Timbuktu expand! Bear is wandering around still. No drama.

(11) 2160 BC.
Bear has shuffled off in the direction of our capital. Warrior is due
next turn, so no worries.

(12) 2120 BC.
Work on worker has started again, Warrior fortifies our Capital.
Worker due in 15. Agriculture in four.

(13) 2080 BC.
NW warrior is healed, exploring again.

(14) 2040 BC.
Warriors explore.

(15) 2000 BC.
Same as above, but agriculture due next turn.

(16) 1975 BC.
Herodotus says we are the fourth most advanced civilization
greatest5yv.jpg

Napolean and Cyrus are better than us? Wonder who the unknown #1 civ is.
Toku is not doing so good.
Agriculture is finished, and I take a break from worker techs to start work
on Archery
. Would be nice to have better soldiers, and prepare some garrisons
for the upcoming city building. Still need to find a worthy place to
send a settler though.
Warrior to the North West spots a stone resource! Sweet. Bit of a walk
to get there though, but at least I found a strategic resource, finally.
stone5ed.jpg

(17) 1950 BC.
NW warrior spots a lion south of the stone resource. Other warrior still
scouting along the coast.

(18) 1925 BC.
NW warrior takes down that lion. Woot!
Archery due in six, worker in nine.

(19) 1900 BC.
NW Warrior takes the woodsman II promotion (yay), and bumps into hatty.

**********************************

Summing it all up

*I guess that's about it for my turn. Will pass the torch here, at a nice
round number, for scowler.
- Archery due in five
- Worker due in eight
- Northwest Warrior needs to heal, but is sitting in the woods, with his
woodsman II promotion.

Screenies to peruse.

Nice turn log again, L_M. :)

Any thoughts on a second city site?

I'm thinking maybe towards the stone, while also settling more river space.
Coastal cities are nice, but right now we can't take advantage them.

We'll need a 'military' city, too, as the barbs will be popping soon, not to mention we'll want to keep the respect of our neighbors.

(00) 1900BC: I decide to appoint Hinduism our national religion, if for no other reason than it might encourage our neighbours to adopt it also.
(01) 1875BC: Nothing much. We discover another corn resource to the E.
(02) 1850BC: We meet one Alex’s scouts in the west.
(03) 1825BC: We reach the edge of Japanese territory in the east.
(04) 1800BC:
(05) 1775BC: Archery comes in. We begin work on Animal Husbandry so that sheep may safely graze.
(06) 1750BC:
(07) 1725BC:
(08) 1700BC: Our worker is finished. A skirmisher is set up (ready in 9)
(09) 1675BC: Nice kitty! Our warrior in the E has discovered lions! :whipped:
(10) 1650BC: 25 years later the lions finally make up their minds to attack. After all that time they still manage to choose unwisely. Our warrior promotes to wood1.
(11) 1625BC: We meet Montezuma in the north! He looks cross, as only a Buddhist can:

Lurker01.jpg

I take the hint and ditch Hinduism for the relative safety of atheism. This gains us 3 brownie points, bringing Monty back up to a cautious +1
(12) 1600BC: Saladin converts to Buddhism.
(13) 1575BC:
(14) 1550BC:
(15) 1525BC: Our warrior in the east is attacked by more lions, taking him to 1.7. He is left to heal.
(16) 1500BC: Animal Husbandry comes in. We have horses just outside our northern border, with some more available to the east!

Lurker02.jpg

Sailing is begun to provide Timbuktu with a lighthouse. And Alex adopts slavery.
(17) 1475BC: Skirmisher is finished and a settler is begun (ready in 30). Cyrus and Saladin adopt slavery.
(18) 1450BC: Yet more kitties attack our warrior in the north. He escapes unscathed, but thinks about investing in some dogs.
(19) 1425BC: We reach Persian territory in the north.
(20) 1400BC: We notice that Cyrus is off somewhere with a settler:

Lurker03.jpg

Status: Sailing due in 12; settler ready in 27 (though this will drop when the sheep come online in a couple of turns).
Recommendation: Build a city at either site A or B in order to grab those horses (it would take too long to wait for our borders to expand further).

Lurker04.jpg

I agree with Blackluck. Start heading inland, even if we simply set up our first city while waiting for copper and horses to appear, makes sense to gain the terrain we are going to want to control anyway.

Stone looks far, but not for a settler. That warrior is in the area, put a skirmisher halfway, and we can race our settler there relay style. Get a city built with stone and corn resources, hills and grassland... lots of good tiles for farming also. How far away does distance start to cut into our earnings?

EDIT: Ooops, posted after scowlers turn.
Disregard my advice, reassesing the entire situation now.
Hmmmm.... ;)

EDIT #2, still leaning towards grabbing that stone. Either we get it, or Cyrus is going to take it. Nobody wants that. Nobody is even close to taking our horses away from us. Will eventually want to put a city near site 1 (unsure if it should be north or south of river), and another one near the beavers to our right to get that whale resource later. As for other sites? Fill in the gaps between us and the stone, for now... until we know where that copper is going to pop-up.
In no way is my opinion informed, logical or binding on any other player. :cooool:

How come Scowler was snoozing so much during his turn? Was he missing all the glory and excitement of the raging barbs from our first try?

hmm I like site A in that you land the cows north and an extra hills tile. B loses the cows and a hill but loses a mountain as well as gain a few flood planes.... rather like A more.

btw we have no chance in hell of nabbing that stone prolly. just too far.

Our choice of coastal spots really sucks =/

Cheers!

:D

Did our warriors leave with some catpip in their packs?
It's uncanny how many we've met

Alex, Tokugawa, Monty and Napolean all in relatively close proximity.
Joy.

Good call on getting crazy Monty back to above neutral, at least for the nonce.

With those neighbors, I'm not sure we can do any kind of Stonehedge/Oracle slingshot for multiple religions, and thus, shrines. I'm thinking, we're going to need to play to our strengths here instead of balancing out our weaknessess.

Financial is our strong suit here. We have the added bonus of managing Civics as need dictates. With all these rivers and coastal areas at our disposal .... *thinking out loud* I think we'll want to maximize our income potential.

First things first:

Second city site:
I'm thinking B. Higher food potential with some nice hills for production.
Unless we get lucky, we'll most likely have to forego the stone site and try to cover as many of these river valleys available to us.

In the games of Civ I've played, I've also noticed Alex seems to have an inbred hatred for Mansa. Might be my imagination, though.

Since we are doing sailing, I'm thinking instead of Oracle (which would be nice) we can do Great Lighthouse/Colossus instead. Perhaps shoot for the Great Library as well. We might be able to crank science high enough to get the later religions (Taoism, Islam). I'm worried that our neighbors will keep us busy with wars, but we shall see!

Nice turn, Scowler!

:p

Cross post!

Let me look at the map again for city site :)

The case for B:
Brings in the flood plain to the east.
Can get the cows with another city just west of the river.
Not sure if A is on the river.
How's that? :)

A snags the cows and doesn;t have to deal with the unhealth from the flood plains.... look A over again same time posting buddy! :D

work is sucking typing a length of text on a non ibm keyboard is just so weird.

Btw monty took budd so that means saladin got beat out on hindu by us... stalling his growth if he shot for jud.

edit: A is on the river... corners count..

Cheers!

I'm trying to see how we can get those two flood plains into the fold as working tiles. They may be unhealthy, but cha-ching! So much can be done with them.

By the way, A or B works for me :) I think either spot will be quite good.
I'm just a bit afraid that A will be grow slower than B, and we want our second city to grow fairly fast.

The stone site would be a third tier city; we might be able to grab it with a settler from Second city (Djennes I think it will turn out.) It will cost us this early. However, we do not have any other secure way of building many early wonders.

These balanced maps can lead to large empires if played right (large and unwieldy! As the Chinese on Noble I eventually had 20 cities.)

At any rate, I agree Luv, this reign certainly lacks the drama that Lurker 1 had! Now we get to debate city placement
(By the way, I tried doing a dot map earlier but a) couldn't get rid of the clouds and b) I suck at outlining the fat cross. I tried to make a 'fat cross' overlay but couldn't figure out how to do it.)

As I understand it, here is an early snapshot of what we may be looking at for city sites (if we go with plan B for the horses).
You can figure it out for the alternative plan, this is just a rough sketch anyway. Now that you can see it, make your minds up accordingly.

lurkercityplanning2kl.jpg

I know, it is an old screenshot. But you get the picture...
(notice my old strategy map signs?)

Does it seem like a lot of terrain is going to be left undeveloped in our empire?

Good luck on your turn, Percinho. :king:
Do whatever you think is best.

is muf a her? not that it matters but the stern like avitar had me thinking not lol.

as for the dreaded pink dot.......

with skirmishers we can roll over cyrus easy... those units own pre longbow. were we supposed to be peaceful? lol those raging barbies had me thinking all out war...

random liq idea lets crap this go for sg3 and raging barbies!!!! JK!!!!!!

I'd rather not lung out with cities, they really hit the pocket book hard.

I'm easy but keep in mind if we doing a cultural win, we need 3 perfect placement cities.

Someone calling me a girl? :twitch:
Mrs. Muffin is a girl! I'm like 70% man, hunk, dude, bro, hombre! [pimp]
(Been playing with my avatar, my normal one may not be suitable here)
Ooops, I mean 100%. All man, all the time :smoke:

Don't think we are allowed to go to war unless it's barbs (grrrr), or unless the AI civs attack us first. Of course, we could drop a city right on their border, they seem to like that a lot... :D

While we may need three cities with "good" conditions, we aren't bound by a three city rule limit. Hamstringing our overall growth to choose three "ideal" cities seems risky. We can have more than three cities, just as long as three of what we got are maxed out with culture. Sacrificing land and population would be a bigger threat to us. While our three cities build wonders, was hoping other towns would be pumping our ships and troops. Don't think the AI is going to sit back and let us get too full of ourselves before we have to beat them off with a stick (or gunships). With more cities, our population increases, potential for tech's increase and I don't like sharing my continents with other icky empires. Let's go find the new world ASAP too, looks like we are stuck near the antartic on this one. Our citizens need a winter vacation destination, somewhere with palms, pina coladas & bikini's.

EDIT: Just thinking out loud here, but I hope at some point we get that stone resource, or else we'll be the only civ in the world who is using horses as ammunition for our catapults.
"Why ain't that wall down yet soldier?"
"Our projectiles seem to stick to the wall sir."

Ha ha. Just teasing (no I'm not, on my turn I am so gonna settle the stone. Ever try building a pyramid out of sheep, cows and horses? Ain't gonna happen.)
:rotfl:
Way too early, need more coffee... someone hold me down, I'm on a roll today!
