SGFN-07: The stars my destination

I'm definitely in for another round. One idea I just threw out onto the SGOTM thread - one slider (of team's choice) must stay at 100% for the whole game. Diplo or military VC.

Thanks team, this was fun!

Did somehow feel too easy for DG. So what made that happen? I think the enormous amount of food in our core, given with the fact that we were on a fairly large landmass with only 2 AIs, which made us get out of REX comfortably. Any other suggestions?

My idea of 'trespassers will be shot' would possibly be nearly AW in the beginning. Basically, attack and destroy any foreign units entering our lands ASAP, with an immediate declaration.
If combined with some other variant, it could be quite challenging.

Play demi-god or Deity pangea with max aggressiveness on. Or Sid pangea and pick your aggression.

lurker's comment:

None of those things hurt, of course, but you had a fairly grotty start in ThinkTank01 yet won with similar ease; no, I think it's much simpler than that - as a group, at least, you are now bona fide DG players; and you had a couple of higher-level players in the team, which helped.

The thing now is to transfer what you've learned into solo games.

I did win my first solo DG with an alternate 4000 BC save with the same settings, so it has improved my game some. I still am not totally comfortable at DG, but I'm not scared of it now. Pangaea might be tougher, especially with a variant.

Thanks, I'll drink to all of that.

Sid....I am not ready for that. A pangaea with similar settings, maybe. Different VC and rules for sure. I haven't done 100k in a long time, but I remember it being a lot of work, so I think we may go back to military VCs. How about a Conquest with a self-imposed deadline?

How about taking an old COTM save and go for beating the number 1 spot?

There was a DG Byzantine one about a year ago that I gave up on for various reasons, the number one being lack of time. Squeezing something with a deadline in between my SG commitments can be difficult. Interesting idea, I'll have to check the Cotm archives.

I'd prefer a game that noone has any knowledge off, so it would have to be an older game. I would also suggest if we do this we do not read the spoilers, but base our plan on the map and the high scores for that game. We go for number 1, or else for beating the best score for a given VC, that is, we look at the map, decide on a VC, and then try to beat the high score for that VC.

How about COTM 08 from 2005 (here):

Civilization: Sumeria
Difficulty: DemiGod
World size: Standard
Landmass: Continents, 60% Water
Geology: 4 billion years old
Environment: Warm, Wet
Barbarians: Raging
Rivals: 7 Preset
Respawn: OFF
Scientific Great Leaders: OFF
Mobilisation: ON

Top 5 looks like this:

1 Aeson 17070 1762AD Cultural 20k
2 SirPleb 10971 790AD Conquest
3 Dynamic 11125 1170AD Spaceship
4 Bradleyfeanor 9836 880AD Diplomatic
5 A'AbarachAmadan 9930 870AD Domination

17K....wow. That looks pretty hard to beat, it would probably need to be a faster cultural 100K with more milking or a milked fast Domination. Would definitely be a challenge!

Hmmm... I like the idea of replaying that COTM Byztanine game from about a year ago. I know ThinkTank doesn't want to go there, and I understand that. I don't remember resources exactly, and I wouldn't want to play the first couple of turns since I know something about the start. Anyone else have any interest in that?

I noticed something about the Cotm 08 scores. Each of the top 5 finishes was a different VC. What we could do is try to beat one of them by playing for the same VC. So we could try to beat the score, the date, or both. I think the team can decide which one to shoot for. I would want the Conquest or Domination one myself. A real challenge whatever VC we choose

Yes, that was what I was trying to suggest too, as alternative for going for number 1:

Sounds like a plan then. I guess we need to figure out who besides you, Krakedhalo, and myself wants to accept this challenge. So now is the time to join up.
