and we call ourselves civ fanatics!

Ok, I've got it.

I'll see if I can put a dent in Mao... Doesn't sounds too plesant with him having artillery...

Oh well.

Ok I played us up to 1810AD (15 turns I think)

Good news, We captured Beijing. Troops are headed north to Nainging.

Bad news: We have Rifles and Cannons, against Arty & Infrantry. I assume it's only a matter of turns before everyone gets tanks...

Really Bad News: HC came to Osaka island with some Arty and razed a few of our cities. The other AIs have been re-settling there...

Notmuch else to say... It's pretty much an impossible win, so either we get wiped out, or someone launches.... I guess play it out & wait it out.

okay ... let set us some objectives ... make this game more fun ;)

Objective:
(1) Survive until 2050
(2) If possible, Win by Score.

Should be piece of cake, right?

Okay, I took Nanjing:

Incidentally we are the Japanese ... :dubious:

As I have no hope of holding on to the city ... one would expect I raze it, right? Nah, there is a better way ...

Right, guaranteed that Mao cannot attempt to take it back within 10 turns.

I spend the remaining turnset attempting to build up an army while strengthening our economy (as if it is possible to do so), rework our infrastructure (why are all workers sleeping? Get up, you lazy scums!), and kill HC's forces in Osaka land.

All that change in the year 1828AD:

All right. So be it. You want war, then let's do war! (... not that I have a choice).

I killed mao's pillaging troops in ex-Hatty's land, and decimated his forces which attempted to retake Nanjing. Reinforcement has landed in Mao's land, should be able to got into Beijing next turn.

Hatty's culture is a pain in the a$$, which blocks off our reinforcement route to the eastern ex-chinese cities.

Will take a look at this later.

A mostly quiet set of turns, but it looks as though it may be the calm before the storm...

I spent most of the time doing what I could to build up defenses - there certainly wasn't any chance of taking the offensive.

We popped a Great Artist at Madrid, so I've put him to sleep there while we decide how to use him

Annoyances: that a$$hole Mao managed to scrag a grenadier on the inherited interturn before he could make it to the safety of Beijing. If that wasn't bad enough, he has just snatched a worker mining some gems outside Heliopolis - a cavalry unit appeared from nowhere:

However, our biggest problem is this, which I spotted towards the end of the turnset:

It has now parked itself off the coast near Salamanca:

It looks as though we are going to lose at least one city, no matter what happens. HC is willing to make peace, but at a high price:

SOS

Game is screwed ... me think

Giving him the city will buy us 10 turns, and then he will simply declare again. What's worse, that city which we give him, will only serve as a base for him to store all those artilleries ... and speaking of which ... what's his obsession with arties???

--

Roster:
Either Codeman, Armstrong or Maquis is UP. Whoever post first gets to surrender a city and enjoy 10 turns of peace ;) leaving those nasty artilleries to the next player  ... now that should be incentive enough. :mischief:

i will pick the game up tomorrow evening (approx 36 hours), unless someone beats me to it. i am in a very busy time at work. we are opening another call center, increasing staff in existing call centers by 30%, adding a couple new client products, lots of crazy work and travel. my schedule is full and time is thin. will pick up tomorrow evening and i'll play 20 or so turns this weekend.

sorry for not hitting the boards much lately. just been busy...

as our leader stated...

...and there were no objections. as such (plus i actually am still enjoying the game just have not played civ except for this SGOTM) i played a little more than 15 turns.

i played until 1900. in summary, i gave the city to HC and got peace. I retook memphis from Mao. I got peace from Mao. i felt we needed some infastructure. science could not go above 50% without a large negative drain on our economy. did a little trading for techs. got a couple defensive pacts. now we can get HC to declare on us and he will have a couple other civs on his hands. 3 civs have built apollo. we need to real soon get him to declare on us.

save coming after my conf call.

okay. there is the save.

the year is 1900ad. 3 civs have built apollo program. 1 civ has first 5 parts of space ship built. we will be able to build apollo in a few turns. decide if we want to race to space victory, time (means preventing others from space), or domination. i think discussion needs to happen before any more play. unless nobody cares about this game, in which case i will finish it next weekend.

who no longer wants to play at all? (maybe lost interest, got bored...)

i have a challenge for the VQ Red team.
play for the fun of the game, screw the competition, just have fun. that's why we became civfanatics in the first place. we love civ. let's just play. like a real SG.

we have a city on osaka cont ready to build apollo. i think it will be the fastest way to build it. may require some chopping... if we agree on space race then start building alot of production in cities. get RR's on top of all lumbermills. get forge and factory in the cities we plan to build the spaceship parts in. make sure windmills and mines are on every hill. need them hammers fast. maybe set couple cities to wealth to expidite science(since it transfers 50% of :hammers: to :gold:), which would allow us to increase science rate.

I have only time to play 25 turns.

Not very good situation. We are techs behind, and Mansa had already started to launch trusters whereas we have yet to build the Apollo ...

WHy? Because I want to get aluminium first. We have aluminium right in Osaka  That is a city with tons of resources!

I have completed the Ironworks in Toledo, and starting to get Factory ... once done we can go for Apollo, although it is most likely a futile attempt, but let's play it out.

We have an artist, should consider lightbulbing radio, which we are researching (heading towards computers for laboratories).
