SGOTM 02 - VQ Red

Oh, I remembered that now about Theocracy GreyFox. Oh well, it could be useful if we want to run a state religion for the army build-up. The problem is it prevented any of the other continental religions from spreading to us... :sad:

If we trade smartly, we can probably trade Astronomy for Guilds, Engineering, and then Gunpowder the next turn. We'll have 2 GS in place to research Grens instantly.

Edit: And with HE, Burea, Globe, and a forge, Kyoto produces 122 hammers/pop ;)

Welcome to the VD Red Thread. VD is for Very Drunk. :blush:
I won't be able to play tonite folks. Women and Wine are never really good for strategy. :(

I'd be able to play in about 20 hrs, so the report would be up in some 24 - the latest. But if anyone wants to skip (maybe Krockel if he's already back) please feel free to do so. I'm really sorry to hold us up ... But thanx for all the strategy input. BTW ...

Where do you get these numbers from, armstrong? If there's a Thread could you post a link? Thanks in advance! ;)

You get 44 hammers per pop in Epic (should be 45, but it's a bug in 1.61) * (1 + .25 (forge) + .5 (bureaucracy) + 1 (heroic epic)) = 44 * 2.75 = :blush: 121 hammers. I guess my earlier math was off by one...

I'll be playing now. Hope my report will be up in the next three hours. :mischief:

The . heads off to bed!
:wavey:

do some tradin', work towards chem
in the islands whip those cats.
in madrid & barc-galleons
other cities on cont build gran and/or samari

i still think mao is the easiest target. looks like he has 6 or 7 cities total. although, if we are attacking with the only gren's on the planet... may be best to go for someone who will be more difficult later. we could use the tech edge on this war. if we wait then the ai could have the military edge. maybe hatty as that would be shortest travel distance from both islands and cont.

Sorry for not responding sooner - I'm really busy this week. I took a (quick) look at the save and noticed a few things:

0. We can whip the HE this turn. ;)

1. Kublai Khan has enough on his hands right now! He's going to declare on someone. He's annoyed towards Mansa, has more power, and is quite close, so that's probably who he's going after. Nice. :D

2. Bismarck will declare war on Hatty (and give us 190 gold) for Astronomy. I suggest we take him up on the offer. With 1. above, that should put everyone but Mao & HC at war. Hatty is outresearching but not out producing Bismarck, so it should slow 'em both down.

3. Mao won't trade techs with us. Oh well, we're going to invade anyway.

4. We can trade Astronomy for Guilds + Paper + 210 gold from Khan.

5. Hatty will give us Engineering, Music, and her world map and all her gold for Astronomy.

6. The value of Astronomy will decline as we make trades, so we need to prioritize the good ones first.

So, due to Mao's recalcitrance we won't be able to trade for Gunpowder it seems unless we don't want to start the German war, but I think a war could help us more (we have some naval units to build before Grens, anyway.)

Here's my plan:

1. Astronomy to Hatty for Engineering, Paper, world map, gold (she might not trade if after we get Bismarck to declare on her.)
2. Astronomy to Bismarck for war with Hatty + gold.
3. Astronomy to Khan for Guilds and whatever else we can get.
4. Set research on Gunpowder at 100% with money we got from trades, due in 5 turns; in the meantime whip as many galleons as possible in the islands, happiness be damned
5. When Gunpowder comes in, lightbulb Chemistry using the two scientists. Whip Gren's as quickly as possible in the islands with no concern for happiness.
6. Invade Mao, and get the ball rolling. :satan:

What do y'all think? :D

I like a lot of armstrong's ideas, especially bribing Bismark to invade Hatty.

Taking out (or even just cripping) one of the tech leaders would be a good idea overall. Mao isn't going to get any bigger, so he's always going to be an easier target. Let's take out someone else with help first...

I am assuming Dot is done with his turnset (he didn't specify he was continuing, but he can if he likes)

Otherwise, I am up. I'll try to get as many trades done as possible, and continue focus on buildup for war, building ships (and whatever else useful)

i agree. i like the idea of joining against hatty.

Codeman said:

I hadn't even thought of that. It's probably a good plan. One danger is that Hatty might get a tech to bring HC or Mansa into the war. Mao has no capability to counterattack us or bribe anyone else to go to war, so he's a very safe target to keep building up our empire with.

On the other hand, we could probably roll on to a weakened Bismarck after finishing Hatty, and then things would really be going well. :)

now we're talkin'!!!:devil: :ar15:

One thing I'm worried about is the declining value of Astronomy as we trade (20% a pop?)... we could only get 190 gold (and not a cheap tech) for Bismarck's declaration of war. If we trade to Hatty first, can we still get war? How are our relations with Hatty? Could we take a -1 and still be able to trade? I think the declaration of war is important, as it will greatly reduce the likelihood of fighting on multiple fronts.

Oh, here's dot's roster from before his turn

dot said:
the roster:
Maquis == On deck!
GreyFox == xoFyerG.
Scowler == relwocS.
Codeman == Finished off Izzy!
armstrong == Lost a city, gained a city.
Krockel == OoP til 4th September.
dot == UP!

So I guess that means the new roster is:

Maquis == UP!
GreyFox == on deck
Scowler == scowlin'
Codeman == codin'
armstrong == buildin' leg muscle
Krockel == the OoP crock pot is done!
dot == dottin' t's, crossin' eyes

Is that right? I know Maquis has got it, but I figured I'd put one closer to the front page, since it took me a bit to find the last one. :)

yeah, i was wondering how much value it would lose on the trading block as we move forward with other trades. i think if we prioritize the trades we could do it, or most of it. i also agree the war is crucial to our ultimate goals and should be high on the list. not sure about if we trade to hatty first... i would try it though.

looks good to me. it's what i had on my desk.

them's my thoughts.

To verify the roster. Verified. :p So go ahead, Maquis.

1) What are we planning to do with new foreign settlements on the continent, like Tadmekka?
2) What are we going to do on the continent anyway?

And armstrong, what was the "dottin' t's, crossin' eyes" part about. Sorry, ain't no native speaker. Don't have a clue. :blush:

1) i think be ready for the eventual war. eventually we will be at war with the civs there, we'll take 'em then.

2) i think mass troops for an invasion

my thoughts

Well, it's been a long night, so don't take this as gospel... There's an expression "dotting the i's and crossing the t's" for someone who "plays by the book," so to speak. I just inverted it. It was just the first idiom involving "dot" that popped into my head, and I got a silly pun out of "crossing i's." :lol:

Back to the game, I think we should be able to declare next turnset (or be ready by the end of it?) If we're piggy backing Bismarck, we only need one good stack (and a single frigate to counter any Hatty galleons) to grab some cities. :) I think we should definitely keep some cities on the donut and specialize them for production & war. They can supply garrison troops if nothing else.

I'm thinking now we should get Bismarck to declare on Hatty before trading techs. It might slow our tech a few turns if Hatty gets angry and refuses to trade, but I think an intra-donut war is more important.
