SGOTM 04 - Geezers

sorry to hear that as well, Jenarie.

from her dotmap, the only city I don't like the position of is Camulodunum...I think it should be 1S, but I don't know that its worth razing a size 14 city to move it one spot. Other than that, I think we should keep all his cities.

As far as the Space Elevator is concerned, if we plan to build it for Gandhi, we need to beeline to it as soon as possible, and we need to gear our specialists to get at least 1 GE, preferably two.

Better skip me after all. Leaving in a few minutes to take mom to ER and will likely to be there all day. If she gets admitted I won't have time for the next several days.

:( Hope all goes well for your mom, Jenarie. Shame there isn't a :crossedfingers: icon.

IBT : nothing

1) 1613AD : sink one of Brennus' caravels
send more units towards Bibactre

IBT : Brennus gets a GS in Bibactre, how sad for him he will not be able to use it

2) 1616AD : lose two cannons on the attack on Bibactre and take the city for 274 gold

IBT : nothing

3) 1619AD : just moving units

IBT : Isabella declares war on us

4) 1622AD : just moving units

I stopped here for some discussion. As Isabella is also buddhist like Mehmed is it worth it to convert to Buddhism to avoid Mehmed declaring on us ? That would not be very nice. Save is attached for everybody to have a look.

I don't think there is any need to convert. We don't even have a demerit with Mehmed for being at war with Izzy. Our only demerits are for trading with his worst enemy and refusing to help him when he was at war. We're +7 with Mehmed compared to +5 with Hannibal who's a bigger danger to us.

What we should do soon is to switch to Free Religion despite the two turns of anarchy. The extra research and happy is worth it. I was going to suggest Mercantilism as well but we have some profitable trade routes with Mehmed.

At this stage of the game we might as well keep Camulodunum rather than re-establish it.

Frankly I think building the Space Elevator is a non starter unless our research improves dramatically. I suspect we need to attack Hannibal in the not too distant future, as he seems far ahead on the tech front, so I think we should concentrate on military techs to have a realistic chance of taking him down without getting wiped out ourselves.

Looked at the post and see that we may need to continue two campaigns. One to take land from Bren, which we are doing well and then to just hurt Izzy. She has no power, but since last time we gave in to her, she may be programmed to consider us weak still.

I was going to suggest that we raze Cordoba because of Izzy's culture, but may be we can take a city or 2 from Izzy, our original target.

No reason to convert to Budhism and I agree with the the civic changes proposed to Free Religion.

I do not think we can not catch up and pass these AI's. With finance trait, we should be able to over take all others. And build the space elevator for G'.

Have fun next turn :D Civ Killer.

IBT : Have not noticed that Gandhi landed several units near ElDo and Haithabu, one goldmine is pillaged

5) 1625AD : kill all Indian units

IBT : Replaceable Parts -> Rifling
We get a Great Engineer on Nidaros

6) 1628AD : take Camulodunum for the loss of one cannon, but 274 gold we gain from it

IBT : nothing

7) 1631AD : We make peace with Brennus. Our troops need to heal and ww is killing us
now we can research rifling in 11 at 50% and only -21gpt

IBT : nothing

8) 1634AD : not much

IBT : nothing

9) 1637AD : not much

IBT : nothing

10) 1640AD : sink two Indian frigates at Nidaros for two of ours

I micromanaged for gold and growth, so we are -11gpt at the moment and rifling in 8. Obviously we can speed this up, but I forgot to check that.
What about using the GE which I brought to New Karakorum for a new palace at our new home ?
The Great General I have sent over to Gergovia. I think a military academy there will be of more use there.
I think after the peace deal expires we will have a decent number of troops to finish off Brennus.
The SGOTM server seems to be down as I cannot submit the save and the easy upload system does not accept my deletings, so I will try to submit the save tomorrow. Sorry.

Good progress mark. :goodjob:

Much though it pains me I think we will have to give up Haitha to Ghandhi. His science is awful. :( I just can't believe he hasn't 'captured' Yayoi from us yet. Unfortunately it looks like the AI commit to taking certain cities and just ignore more easily accessible cities. :(

As far as Brennus is concerned I think we want to take Vienne & Cordoba from him. It may be better to just raze Cordoba and settle a new city on the desert 2 NW of Cordoba instead. :dunno:

Since we're at peace with Brennus for a while we can probably afford to switch to Free Religion now. On the tech front I think we should carry on with military techs so that probably means heading for Artillery with Physics as a prerequisite. Perhaps we may be able to extort Physics from Brennus as long as we have put a turn or so into it first. Pity Brennus got the free GS from it.

EDIT: There's an announcement about a new GOTM server. Looks as though the redirection is not working properly. :(

I think Gandhi will not take Yayoi. He wants Haitha and El Do and I think we should give these to him at his next attempt. I already thought about it for 20 minutes whether I should give Haitha to him when he landed three muskets there. Next time we should definitely do it. We need to get him going.

We should still be aware that we are at war with Izzy and we have not seen anything from her despite two caravels scouting our southern lands.

:goodjob: mark. Too bad you didn't add to your roster of kills, but I think we've pretty nearly incapacitated Brennus now.

I think we should leave Izzy alone other than convincing her to end the war with us, so that we can use her as a go-between for getting tech to Gandhi. She's his best friend, and we need him to at least have her and Washington as trading partners since we may need to take down Hannibal soon.

edit: Sorry for my lack of involvement in discussions this week, I've been studying and taking my finals. Finished now for the semester :band: [party] :woohoo: so I should be back to normal :)

I thought of continuing the war, but the ww costs too much. Our science was just too slow and we need to start getting our new home up and running. I think the units we have there and the reinforcements I brought on the way should be ok to redeclare war and finish Brennus quite fast after the peace deal expired. Additionally by then we have rifling which will be quite important. With some rifles our new cities should be quite safe.

Thanks for all your well-wishes. Mom is back home and driving me crazy again so everything is back to normal. ;)

Only just noticed this. :( Pleased to hear your mom is back. :)

Are you taking the game next or do you want to wait until your turn comes round next?

No problem. RL always has to come first.

Sorry for my lack of contribution as well. I have been absorbed in my 9 unsuccessful attempts at G-Major 11 so am in full-on cultural mode at the moment. If you let me at this game, I'd be spamming useless temples all over the place.

Oh, I can go if you guys think I should - I could play tomorrow night - but I'm totally ok with being skipped and taking it when it comes around next as well. I guess I'll look over it tonight and post thoughts - which I need to do whether it is my turn or not :) - and then if no one else has "got it" by tomorrow this time I can go. :)
