SGOTM 04 - Trash Team

Summary:
-Think I played too many turns, but at least we made some progress.... :rolleyes:
-Whipped a bunch of units, we were seriously low on military units (we now have 16 cannon, 16 rifles and 14 grenades)
-G took Utica, and built a unit. With his horse resource he can now make cavalry, which might convince him to come after us.
-Made room for G in Hanni´s land.... :evil:
-Took Carthage, boston, Sicca and moving in on last three cities... Which have only 5 defensive units.
-Killed a few artillery :O scary. I dont think Hanny has many more, so let´s kill him fast...
-Plan is to let G take Hannis land... Hope someone takes a few cities from us...Build more units, or up science after the war for upgrades.

Looking good tho' city maintenance remains quite high. Presumably heading scimeth-physics-artillery?

Tech path was liberalism (completed) > Sci Method > Communism.

Currently tech is slow due to many units outside our borders and mass whipping of the empire. Old vinland is set to max growth, so we should have more commerce soon.
 
do we have some luring units? (I mean workers, or scouts or warriors or something really weak)

We don't want to keep those cities, gandhi need to get them asap.

In old vikingland there are five luring workers in sight of G. On Hanni's land there is one (and one was already captured)

I just hope G is building Cavalry for attacking.

Given that bait units haven't worked before are they likely to work now? I'm not opposed to it but I'm not sure its a huge priority.

It doesn't work when he needs to load/unload from boats.
The bait are designed to lure him into capturing cities in newvinland. Hopefully he builds some units :mischief: .

I guess just stick to the plan for the time being (capture all of Carthage and try to get Gandhi to take some more cities) and press onwards to Communism and Artillery. There's a 'sell Liberalism for Economics' trade with Isabella that's looking inviting.

I guess I'm a little unsure as to whether more whipping Rifles and more consequent unhappiness (despite Hereditary Rule) is the best option, but I'll get a better feel as I play.

rifles should be drafted, not whipped

OK ... I've played five turns and while not without a few casualties :shifty: - particularly in the Cannon department - I did wipe out Hannibal with the excellent SoDs that Remco set up.

I'll opt to end my turn here, as I regrettably don't have the time to finish my other five turns in a conscientious manner, while it's probably time to take a breather and review the game again.

Scientific Method did come in > Communism.

I took a turn to part-research Economics at 10%:science: before trading for it from Isabella. I had to throw in 160 gold to sweeten the deal (down from 360 gold without any :science: towards Economics):

Hannibal had both Machine Guns and Artillery - thankfully only one of each.

Brennus landed in the Old World and took out Avar (northern city) and razed it. I settled for peace (230 gold - ouch) and settled Jelling one tile away from where Avar was.

Still no movement from our follically-challenged friend.

I noticed Gandhi doesnt have a worker for his horses. This means he cant build cavalry. Let's give him a hand and send our worker to aid.

Hey guys, you may have noticed I haven't commented on this thread for quite some time. I have been extremely busy and have a very busy weekend and week coming up, so I will have to request a skip. I also have not followed this thread closely enough to be certain I'm making the right decisions in this very crucial part of the game.

I did briefly check the save though, and besides giving up hope since Mehmed has SAM Infantry (meaning rocketry), we should sell a resource to Brennus for the 14 GPT that he has. Good luck to whoever takes the game next.

Sorry for being a bit of a flake, but I feel like I haven't seen this game in quite a while. Could someone please post a brief set of goals for my ten before I play to make sure I don't do anything too :smoke:
 
Unfortunately we're lacking strategic consensus and can't really agree on how to proceed.

I (and remconius to a lesser degree) am in favour of contracting our empire to cut down our maintenance to improve research in the short term and also give Gandhi some encouragement to expand.

Cam_H (and cabert to a lesser degree) are opposed to this strategy and argue that we need a large and powerful empire so that we can squash Gandi's potential rivals as required.

As a result we aren't getting very far very fast because we can't agree where we're going.

If you've got time it would be useful if you could read through the last few pages andgive us your opinion.
 
I think that everyone would want Gandhi to start taking out our New World cities seeing he's not interested in Old World ones. At this point he's just not dropping sufficient units to adequately defend Kolhapur or Utica, let alone anything that could be described as an invasion force. We will probably need lures as suggested for the New World once his Cavalry arrives.

My gut feeling is that we should consolidate the Old World on the assumption that Gandhi won't ever invade, and start on examining ways to slow the progress of the other tribes while hoping that they don't beat Gandhi to filling up the Carthaginian lands - maybe we should look at whipping out some Settlers for 'central Carthage' for Gandhi to take rather than have Mehmed float in there?

I'm thinking Spies and lots of :gold:, but to be sure I'd also keep :nuke: as a workable approach up our sleeve. Focus on :commerce: and be wary of the possibility that Brennus might re-invade.

The tile above Nidros that Brennus got his units bumped onto is bothering me somewhat.
