SGOTM 04 - Xteam

I disappear for three months and return to find Bede and leif still trying to figure out how to get the AI to walk into our undefended cities. And we're running out of turns to play. Some things never change.

Sorry about bailing on the game, but there was no way I could play. Not sure if leif filled you in but my migranes and insomnia came back about the time this game got started. Between that and work I haven't played any Civ at all during that time. Doc change my meds up so that has helped but by the end of the work day I'm whipped. And now that summer is here we are in the real busy time at work so it will be several more weeks before I get a chance to play.

I'm ujp to 1940 and at peace with all but Gandhi. Washington and Hannibal yet live, and Gandhi is about to take Nidaros and the desert city SE of Haibathu.
I think I've heard this before. :mischief:

I'll be much happier when you say that it has happened!

I have gifted Isabella and Hannibal all the way to Robotics to remove the monopoly status of those techs, hoping to see them offer something to Gandhi and it is no dice. No give, even though Isabel is "Friendly" with the man.

If there are no objections I will play on to 1950, just to see if Gandhi uses his new infantry to capture some undefended cities. That will leave us 100 turns to play.
No objection here! Good luck. :high5:

Thanks for checking in Gator. :thanx:
All that really matters is that you are feeling better and are conquering that stack of paperwork in order to return again. I think we missed some of those crazy ideas of yours! :p

Hope to see you ready for the next one, in the Vanilla SGOTM thread. Sign ups should be fairly soon. Please keep an eye out! :scan:

Yeah, well, I had lured a SAM infantry within two moves of Nidaros but even two workers kept dashing down into his face and one mooned him while the other shot him a bird then dashed back to a tiel right next to the city he wasn't get any closer. I had to lay a trail of breadcrumbs letting him steal a worker every turn, then of course he had to escort the worker back to safety.....

Finally he is right on top of the town, and there is an infantryman and a cav within striking distance of the other city who have been scooping up bread crumbs for three turns.

No objections, only encouragement and appreciation from me.

DJMGator13 . . . You post, ergo you exist!

Leif has kept it going in your absence. CIV and migraines would certainly seem incompatible. Hope you're over the worst. Thanks for inviting me onto the team. It's been fun.

The breadcrumbs must be tastier than the cities. Too much unhealthiness? ;)

Sounds like we will achieve giving G some good cities, but the question now is can he use them?

Keep up the good work! :hatsoff:

Keep going as you've figured out how to get him to capture the cities :)

Well, it is 1950 and you have entered the twilight zone.

Gandhi will take 100 turns to finish the Apollo Project at Madras.

Washington and Hannibal have been silenced.

Gandhi did finally capture Nidaroa and Bjorgvin and Karakorum. He took Karakorum right after the Eiffel Tower finished, little good will it do him.

The server is being hinky so here is the save

Gandhi did send another armada to the west, sunk it.

He is currently researching Electricity and has 30+ turns to go on that. Isabella has passed him nothing from her tech hoard.

Despite all our best efforts getting Gandhi to space in 100 turns just won't happen.

Then its is time to take Madras and raze it? :mischief:

I'm afraid your analysis is all too true. Our goal now should be to get him as close as possible?

Would it be helpful to raze his crappy northern cities and drive his production to the new continent?

Roster:
RRAU - UP
Frederiksberg - On Deck
Leif
Cactus Pete
Sanabas
- ?
Gator - checked in and recovering!
Bede - just played!

The submitted save

Well the army is afloat to do all that, just off the west coast of India.

You may want to put some jets on one of the carriers.

There is a Great Engineer in Washington, you can use him to build Wall Street or use him and the scientist (in Bibracte I think) to start a Golden Age. Or you can use him to put up Hollywood, though happiness is not really an issue now that the whining for a homeland is over.

The sign up thread is up for a new C-IV SGOTM Vanilla game HERE!

How many are up for the challenge? Another Gyathaar special, it seems... ;)

I am, of course, in for the spin in 05!

:goodjob: Looks interesting.

There is now a pre-game discussion thread HERE.

And it links to a Succession Game that played through the concept, but it was an OCC, and you can find it here.

Just in case anyone is interested in reading a bit after they sign up? :D

So.....

What's the gameplan? Raze Madras? Any other ideas? A Pyrric Victory and wipe him off the map?

I think we should do what we talked about earlier, cutting down the size of his Army and forcing Apollo to be built in a city where it won't take forever. Try anything that we can think of to speed him along? :hmm:

We *could* begin our Space Ship and see if we can complete it in time, just for fun?

Let's see, Conquest, Domination and Space Ship launch all at 2050 AD?

All of the above make sense to me, and there was mention earlier about razing his useless and therefore costly northern cities.

I'd prefer not top spend time on such and get the game over with, but will put in my turns if this is a team goal.

I feel the same way as CP - no need for me to do anything except finish this game somehow.

The Apollo Project date is not very important - I'm pretty sure that CRC and Murky Waters are both done with the game since I saw them posting in each others threads.

As far as I'm concerned we could retire now - I don't see the point in playing until 2050 if we are already 100% sure that Gandhi don't have enough time to build the space ship.

That does sound interesting. One thing about Gyathaar variants is that you tend to learn something new about the game no matter how much you think you already know. I'd love to play but I'm not sure I'll have enough time. If you don't mind carrying an extra on the bench I can signup and see how my work demands go.

Yes, I agree that there isn't much hope for any type of successful finish to this. I am willing to sit and hit enter until the end if you wish, perhaps trying out a few things along the way as we discussed. Of course, this would be after rrau has finished her turn set, if she wishes? :)

This is fine with me Gator. The game begins on July 19th and will probably end quicker than this one, maybe by the end of September with a fast pace towards Domination or Conquest?

Just curious if rrau, CP and Frederiksberg are considering joining the fun for SGOTM05?

I want to get this one finished first, then read in more detail about the other one. Does anyone know if it's like the Warlords scenario where you don't really build a city?

Speaking of finishing this one............Do I retire or keep plugging along?
