SGOTM 04 - Xteam

Lol. It does seem that X-Team does get mission impossibles from the RNG gods.

Well you'll have to get me on a good day. I have once lost a 99.8% battle which is not promising, but then in one GOTM (it was that mountainous american one) I had a cat win a 0.2% battle :D So as long as I play my turnsets at the right time - or the right phase of the moon or something - oh I just wish I knew what the critical factor was! - we should be just fine!

I feel your pain!! ;)

We'll just have to put Frederiksberg on the project of determining who is "UP" for a lucky day? Sound right up his alley? :crazyeye:

Dispatch from the front:
It is Turn 592 - 1982 AD
G has taken all of our former continent. He is 9 turns from Apollo, only because he adopted Nationhood and the fool drafted a unit in Delhi. He continues to find a way to lose this.

Izzie is down to one city and will not become G's Vassal?
I was hoping G could get some tech from her if she was his Vassal, but no luck thus far.

68 turns remain.

Update - Played through 1992, Turn 602.
G completed Apollo in 1991 and immediately started to build SAM Inf.
Off for bed.

Do I see some rays of hope?.......However.......I don't think he'll have enough time to research everything he needs for all the parts....:(

Research is definitely going to be the problem!

Your good work is appreciated, leif.
Thanks CP. The effort is pretty hopeless at this point. :help:

However, it is fun to see how far we can get G along the path. RRAU's idea to take Madras worked pretty well. Now we need another dozen or so miracles...

Looks like the Professor will be quickly assimilated - mad or not :) .

Nice that we at least get the Apollo built! another milestone would be if Gandhi actually starts working on space ship parts. Good work! :goodjob:

He is!!

G is building SS Casings in both Hittite and Birka! :p
:crazyeye:

EDIT - It is all over. We won a time victory.

G built 5 SS Casings but took the dumb road up the tech tree so never could build anything else????
Izzie didn't help at all and met her fate when her capitol flipped to us.

Logs, etc. tomorrow.
The save that was uploaded!

I've attached the 2049AD save in case anyone is interested. ;)

Relief!

Thanks, leif, for taking this tedious task of finishing a game we knew was beyond any hope of success :hatsoff:

Now we can finally see how the other teams did. I suspect they gave away cities earlier than we did. Maybe they also had a more favourable religious/diplomatic setup.

You're welcome. It wasn't so bad, except that I knew we were going to lose.

As promised, the log to complete the game:
Turn 570 – 1960 AD
Finally find everything.
Gift our techs to Izzie; including Fascism, Mass Media, Ecology, Fission and Flight. I hold Genetics for now. She winks and smiles at us, generously giving us a +1 in diplo…
However, she is still furious with us.

Turn 572 – 1962 AD
We discover Medicine, start on Fiber Optics.
G captures Samarqand.

Turn 574 – 1964 AD
Screenie of Hittite.

1964AD_Hittite.jpg

Turn 576 – 1966 AD
G completes Electricity.

Turn 579 – 1969 AD
G captures Thanae. I think he’s getting the hang of this city capture stuff. And he knows how to snag Workers too.
Suppose he could build a Space Ship?

Found the Apollo Program, in Delhi with 21 turns to completion. Screenie:

1969AD_Delhi_Apollo.jpg

Turn 581 – 1971 AD
Thinking about taking Izzie down to one city, force her to trade with G? She has Workers everywhere improving her tiles and she is starting to rebuild. With G taking so much ground, we are now down to 50% of Land area, lots of room now.
Izzie is building Settlers in some of her cities.

G actually kills one of our Workers, :hmm: must have enough?
In his cities, G is building lots of military units.

Turn 583 – 1973 AD
G captures Beshbalik.
The AI is sure confused, G’s Cavalry is pillaging Towns within his own borders? He’ll never get any research done!! G has 14 turns to go on Industrialism.

Izzie founds Santander on the old Madrid site.
Begin concentrating troops for a strike on Izzie.

A look at Karakorum:
1973AD_Karakorum.jpg

Turn 586 – 1976 AD
We discover Fiber Optics and start on Fusion, due in 20 turns.
Use Great Scientist in Bibracte to Lightbulb Fusion, now due in 15 turns.

Turn 587 – 1977 AD
G captures Ning-hsia.

Turn 588 – 1978 AD
Start Apollo in Durnovaria.
Izzie has started constructing the Internet, even after all the techs we gave her. If only G was so ambitious…

Turn 589 – 1979 AD
G captures Old Sarai. He now controls our entire old core area! About time!!
We are now at 43.72% of the domination limit.

Time to go and visit with Izzie! :mischief:
We trade Genetics to Izzie for 260 Gold.
We then declare on Izzie.
We take Zaragosa, Valencia and Burgundian. Three cities left and we’ll let her keep one. If she’d only become G’s Vassal?

Turn 592 – 1982 AD
G adopts nationhood and, you guessed it, begins drafting in Delhi, slowing the build time for Apollo!

Izzie is down to Pamplona but, even though she won’t talk and has only one tired unit in the city, will not vassalize to G? Pamplona is in desperate straits:

1982AD_Pamplona.jpg

Turn 595 – 1985 AD
We get a Great Engineer in Bibracte. What to do with him?

Izzie is as stubborn as ever. Won’t talk, won’t become G’s vassal. Makes me just want to send her to electron heaven.

Turn 599 – 1989 AD
Izzie is finally ready to talk. She will capitulate to us, but we don’t want that. We sign a peace deal and I make her adopt Universal Suffrage, as it is Gandhi’s favorite civic, perhaps relations will get better?
Then we gift her Medicine.

Turn 600 – 1990 AD
G gets a Great Prophet.

Turn 601 – 1991 AD
We discover Fusion and begin Future Tech.
We get another Great Engineer.
G completes Apollo, finally! Delhi begin to produce a ……. SAM Inf.

Turn 602 – 1992 AD
Save game and exit for the night.

Reload game and begin playing.

Turn 603 – 1993 AD
Our Spy visits Birka where G is building an SS Casing!
He is researching Plastics, due in 26, long, turns.

Turn 605 – 1995 AD
Another SS Casing is being built in Hittite!!

Turn 606 – 1996 AD
We complete Apollo.

Turn 608 – 1998 AD
G is building an SS Casing in New Sarai.

Turn 609 – 1999 AD
G completes his first SS Casing.

Turn 611 – 2001 AD
G completes his second SS Casing. :D
G is building his Forbidden Palace in Karakorm, perhaps it will increase his research a bit. Speaking of which, he is still on Plastics, due now in 14 turns.

Turn 612 – 2002 AD
G completes another SS Casing.

Interesting that G has built a Market, Grocer and now an Observatory in Delhi. I wonder why it took him so long?

Turn 616 – 2006 AD
G has completed his 5 SS Casings.

Turn 618 – 2008 AD
G is building Scotland Yard in Haithabu.

Turn 623 – 2014 AD
G completes Plastics, starts on Fascism.

Turn 629 – 2019 AD
G gets a Great Engineer.

Turn 632 – 2022 AD
G is building Mt. Rushmore, Wall Street and Iron Works in our old core.
Scotland Yard is nearly complete.

Turn 637 – 2027 AD
G discovers Radio, starts on Mass Media. :cringe:

Pamplona goes into revolt because of our cultural domination.

2027AD_Pamplona.jpg

What is cultcha anyway?

Turn 640 – 2030 AD
Izzie last city flips to us and she is destroyed!

Turn 643 – 2033 AD
G discovers Radio and starts Flight, due in 8 turns.

Turn 652 – 2042 AD
G discovers Flight, starts Satellites, due in 7 turns.

Game ends in 2050 AD and while we get a Time Victory, we lose the game as G never gets beyond 5 SS Casings….

G finally started building all the improvements he needed to boost research and his financial condition in the 2000's. Had we been able to get him to take more of our core 100 years earlier, he might have completed the Space Ship. As he built, his War Weariness came under control and he actually got aggressive towards the end, a lot of naval attacks all around Indian waters.

I didn't think that someone's capitol could flip, but Izzie's sure did.

Thank for the game, I enjoyed playing with this team and look forward to further conquests with you all. I appreciate your time, your discussion and your expertise. This was a special scenario that played a bit too much the C-III version, which had its own frustrations.

Looking forward to SGOTM05... :mischief:

As usual a very informative spoiler!

I looked around a bit in the other threads. CRC got Gandhi to launch in 1891 AD and Murky Waters saw him launch in 1947 AD. One Short Straw are having problems quite similar to ours but they may still have time to get G. to launch. I doubt it will be earlier than the two other teams. It's hard to evaluate Peanut and Smurkz since they are not very far in time. A couple of teams have been wiped out (conquest defeat or retired in a hopeless situation). Looks like only a handfull of teams will actually get Gandhi into space.

Nice to see someone made it to space. I'll have a look at other threads later.

Some went to a conquest defeat. :hmm: At least we don't have to worry about a wooden spoon!

Thanks for the update. :D

Brave finish. leif! Conquesting Isabella with a flip was realy fun to see!

I was quite surprised to see Pamplona flip!

She never gave G a single thing, wouldn't become his Vassal and was the most stubborn...

However, she deserved what she got; always demanding things but the most ungenerous, well, you know what I mean.

   I didn't know it was possible to culture flip a civ's capital and/or last city.

A time victory! Nice one. Seems like this game was beyond most of the teams. We got an AI to launch but it was the wrong one. Hannibal instead of Gandhi. Our Gandhi was even more hopeless than your one. He did not even know how to light a skyrocket, let alone a spaceship.
