SGOTM 05 - Misfits

gee good point cnwjr, have to agree with that, ummm yer if gotta miss the hills to get stone straight up, go all the way and get the gold in fat cross, stonehenge currently takes.. 30 turns at best? if we start building immediately, and takes 15 turns to get stone, that is i guess 7 maybe 8 turns from then to get stonehenge, so we would get it 7 turns quicker, and then have to build a worker in maybe 7 turns? so thats about 30 turns to get worker and stonehenge? Current way, stonehenge doesnt start building until worker is completed, which will be 5 or 6 turns before we get stone. so it will take us about 13 turns after we get stone to finish (worst case), leaves us 2 spare building turns? or is my math wrong? :)

Can you please help me understand how can I participate in SGOTM?

I wanna join this Succession Stuff. Well, I know that we play in team. But I am still confused how will I join a team, and how will we play together.

Thanks.

You need to go to the sign up thread and talk to AlanH. He puts people on teams...

Piko, sounds about right. That's the main reason I originally wanted to build next to the stone for our first settler. Oh, well. We can still use the production from the stone and the gold and seafood for a decent city. And, if there are any other wonders needing stone, we will have it. Pyramids, perhaps?

Did someone take the game to 1330 BC? That's what's up on the P&R page, and further... the save shuts down my game instead of opening.

aye 1330 is correct? Umm it should work? i'll test it... yerp no trouble here? anyone else not able to load it?

edit: don't open civ first, just run the save and it will load civ with the mod for ya, easy as :), you can just run from the progress page even. Just make sure civ not open before you attempt it

Tried it both ways, no good. I mean, the game opens, it runs up past the scene of the world turning, and attempts to start the save... then darkness and a message that says "civilization has to shut down..."

Perhaps someone should play the next turnset while I try and figure it out. I can open other saves, just not this one. No idea why.

ok Mauer, can you see if you can get it up and running, and if so, do your turn? I know it works on mine fine, lets hope its just a small bug, if anyone else wants to test it in the meantime whilst we wait for Mauer, that would be great thanks :)

Hey, would it be against the rules for another member to load the game, save it, and upload it to the maintenance site? I'm wondering if it's that particular save for some reason...

I tried to open it and was succesful. Been reading your posts and gotta say....I'm a bit confused as to the direction we're going here. What's the galley for? Why are we building stonehenge? And why don't we have MP in our second city? Research absolutely sucks on this, so I'm not sure what we're planning on doing either. Any thoughts on how to catch up technologically?

My thoughts on the settler....the first circle on there is a site that we'll eventually want, not now though cause the worker actions will take too long in the jungle. The second circle could be ok, but the city isn't growing to grow well at all there (w/o a lighthouse that is, which will take forever to build). I'd almost want to go a little south to pick up the gold and rice/corn (whatever it is). It'll be far more productive and grow much better than the stone site, unless I'm really missing the point of stonehenge being a priority.

And building a worker in the proposed stone site is gonna take about 20 turns, longer if we select a tile for growth. I can play tonight or tomorrow when I get home from work, but your insight would really help me out here.

The settler should be heading to the tile on the right of the stone. This puts the seafood and gold into its fat cross.

The initial build there should not be a worker. Perhaps a galley, workboat, or lighthouse would make more sense.

There is a worker at present to the north of the capital building a pasture for pigs. That worker should be sent south to quarry the stone and eventually the gold.

Stonehenge is a way to get culture to all of our cities (including the barb allies). This is necessary as there is little chance of getting a religion any time soon. It will be a requirement if we hope to go for a dom win. It will be useful for a conquest win simply to claim resources.

The galley is to finish exploring what we can and to convey our eventual troops/settlers to other lands. The map seems to permit galleys to make it most (if not all) of the way. The galley under construction at Best should be whipped either before ending the turn or immediately on the next turn. The city is already at max happiness. Notice that the unhappiness is not based on the city being unprotected (MP). This is partly due to size, partly due to no one else being around, and partly being allied to the most serious normal danger. It would not hurt much to build an archer there, but there is not a lot of need just yet.

The capital should be switched to Stonehenge after? completing the worker in progress. This will take a bit of time to complete.

There is some uncertainty about what to do at any given time as we have not really made a firm decision on our overall course of action. It appears the direction will be either conquest or domination. A cultural victory is theoretically possible as well, but would not really take advantage of our allies and will be very difficult as we are behind on the three early religions.

I personally would declare war again on Spain to let the barbs harass them. This should be discussed and not a unilateral decision. It makes a huge difference on what our goals will be, but I think in the early game, keeping the civs down as much as possible will be very useful.

We are currently researching IW, both to help our barb allies with swordsmen and to be able to clear all this jungle on our island. Riding should be next. After that... it depends.

As this is a kind of archipelago map we need seapower. The four civs on the big continent do not need it. We need to eventually take out Qin and Saladin. I'm not so sure about anyone else unless our goal is conquest. We will need cities on the big continent regardless.

I think this is more than enough chatter. TTFN

i'm shocked people can't find 15 minutes to play some 10 or so early turns hehe, ohwell, guess my life is just less busy, anyhow!!! umm yer sure mauer, we actually not doing a turn skip thing, we have a skip roster, when you ready for a turn just shout out and its yours :)

wont work still mastiff? we back to you already marowaker? Unless anyone else has been forgotten?

I got it! Woo Hoo!

I would also declare again on Spain. If we can get a bit more input on that, I'll be more than happy to take a turnset using cnwjr's post as a guide.

oh yer, we gain stuff all from peace with anyone atm, war is fine by me, let the barbs hit em

Saved & Uploaded

1330 - Whipped the galley. Declared on Spain. (I think we had 3 or 4 of us supported this, and I doubt Izzy will ever trade us anything.)

1270 - Started a worker in Beshbalik (We can use him, and we're at max happiness.)

1240 & 1210 - Pushed the button (PB)

1180 - Founded Turfan (Got a warrior from the hut!). Started a workboat. Headed the worker for the stone. Set research to 90%. We also learned Masonry from the barbs right about here.

1150 - 1000 - PB (A note. I first sent the new worked to hook up pigs, but not really needing them, I then sent them to mine copper. A lost turn, my bad.) Also, I didn't chop on Stonehenge. I tend to do that at the end when you are reasonable sure to get it. I'd rather leave trees for later, and if someone wants to chop them, there is still plenty of time.

970 - Worker at the copper ready to mine.

955 - Sladin adopts slavery.

940 - 925 PB & ended my set.

Notes:

- I think I accomplished all of the goals we had so far...
- We'll have the copper mined and the quarry completed in three (3) turns. Both will need roads.
- We'll have another worker in four (4) turns.
- Galley is about back where it started after looking for a passage to the east.
- I noticed the barbs went for IW and we would both get it in 15 turns. Great! But I switched to pottery and then they wouldn't be done for 140+ turns... So we're still on IW.
- Where and when on the next city is a good thing to discuss.
