My ridiculous week is over, so I can put some time into civ again. :bounce:
If civicide doesn't say hello, I'm playing in .. 14 or so hrs.

Go ahead and play, Sweet. Things have been beyond crazy for me in the past couple of weeks and my motivation level for this game has been low for the past couple of TS's. It looks bleak at the moment.

I think at the moment that conquest is obviously not achievable and our best bet is domination via settler spam. That still involves carving out a chunk of enemy real estate that is going to be very difficult to hold.
 
Tech research, where should we go after Chemistry? I am wondering if trying to build West Point would help boost our Troops to the Max number of XPs as soon as they are built.
What is the next best Naval tech, Steel to get Ironclads?
 
West Point is damn expensive, better build more units.
Ironclads are only good for defense, they are basically stronger triremes.
I think that after Chem for frigates, we can go for Steel (cannons), or the long route to Rifling and RedCoats: PP-RP-Rifling.

Settler spam is not enough, or we haven't started a war like this: we need some land on the main continent, together with settler spam we can close this nightmare.

Sorry it took longer than intended; it's been a tumultuous day.
1. A friend was taken to hospital - she's ok, but will stay in overnight, so I spent a few hours there.
2. I don't know what you guys have to put up with, but we are pretty backward technologically (laugh it up, you northern hemisphere hyenas :)), and I've broken my ludicrously expensive download cap for the month - already - so, no picture uploads, I'm afraid.

I played ~13

OK, the game, which isn't sooo bad, I feel. Yeah, we're up against cav and rifles, but really, that means (finding and) destroying horse pastures, and hitting the leader Cyrus where it most hurts, ie the christian shrine city... where ever that is.

The score graph won't look great for my TS, but I'm not sure how I was meant to avoid that, with a city in the middle of enemy territory ill equipped to take on cav and rifles, and no reinforcements en route... in fact, most cities were working on science for chemistry. That's fine, but I'm just saying it was impossible to hold that city - Medina?? especially as it was in revolt.

I increased the number of troops in Nidaros, and in fact an army has moved out to take the hill, and can see the new viking capital with just 3 rifles in it. The other grens (still one mace to upgrade) and the siege can move out to join them next turn. We have to decide whether to take it or raze it.

On the east coast, the troop build up has started. We'll probably need another 0.5-1 TS to gather enough grens, jumbos, lbs, and siege to have enough to make a solid dent over there. It may be worth waiting for another GG to make a supermedic, but I forgot to check how long he'll take.

With the stack, we have a couple of options:
1. go back to Medina, raze it, and then go back to that westernmost city and use that as a base of operations.
2. take our SoD inland to find the lost city of gold... er.. the christian shrine, and raze it, then back on the boats to heal (unless something else good turns up) and then on to point 1.

Meanwhile, I've seen 1 or 2 frigates around, but ours have also started sailing, so keep em coming, and we should be fine. We are suffering some severe emancipation :mad:, so I did a little whipping, and have been trying to get theatres and colliseums, etc, in everywhere. If it gets too bad, use the slider a bit - its on 10% now. We also got a GE, who will knock a hunk off steel, which is my suggestion, because cannons will finish this game for us.

OK, let's work out a war strat and get on the attack.
 
Sweeta, i've seen no combats in your Autolog: possible?
I was pretty sure we have a GG born somewhere, can someone verify, please?

No ideas for a war plan, it seems that they can easily destroy our forces if not at least fortified in a city.
Remember that Grens have a bonus against Rifles only when attacking, and that cavalry has a bonus against cannons.

Sure we need to try to dominate the seas to keep our home safe, at least.
But we need tons of troops to take some more city, and to begin the settler spamming, so at least 1 LB for each settler, better also a knight or a WE.
Let's target the spots that give us land, first the island NW of London.

Will take a look at the save later for more in depth comments, in the meantime, I think razing most enemy cities is a must, because if we leave them and they recapture them they resume production where it left off and we have to break the defenses all over again. One city kept in each area leaves us a place to rest/heal our units.
A tactic to try may be promote units (Grenadiers?) so they don't get a penalty for attacking from the sea and attack coastal cities from ships. We end up with one unit in the city and if we don't want to keep it, we can raze it and only lose one unit. I also think at least two fronts are necessary to thwart the enemy counterattacks, keeping the AI guessing where we will attack.
 
This can be a good idea:
C2 leads to amphibious, so it's at hand.
Bombard with frigates, suicide a cannon to soften, then go with Grens/marines.

Civ hasn't logged on for a few days, so I'd say GB is up. Give em hell. Strength in numbers.

What about the GE, is there a wonder? Or burn him on steel?

I think we are back on track. Here is the save. I did experience a Crash IBT after the end of turn autosave was made after 1736AD. You would think with an Nvidia 8800GT with 512MB and all graphics turned down that it wouldn't crash but my Nvidia driver went belly up and BSOD on me. It seems they don't reset themselves as well as the ATI cards.

We are the proud owners of another Viking city, Haithabu, I decided to keep it as it is at the junction where one spur of land goes North and one goes West. It looks as though there is a large fresh water sea in the middle of their continent.
Our third invasion fleet "Charlie", is headed for the west coast. We need to decide if we want to take the two island cities first, Aiden and a another city. See the attached screen shot labeled"Invasion fleet Charlie" the City is lightly defended. We may also want to consider heading for the West coast of the main continent and putting some pressure on Saladin to keep his Troops near home. He had a stack of about 8 - 10 units in Baghdad(?) and after we took Haithabu, they disappeared. They may be heading for us and if so they have left their cities lightly defended (see Khurasan Screen shot)

We destroyed Cyrus' stack of about 4 Grenadiers, 5 Rifles and 5 Trebs that wanted to take Haithabu from us, and are fairly secure there. Reinforcements are on the way and we need to hurry more along. Because we control the seas we could probably send most of the units from Nidaros to Haithabu. We will need to produce more Trebs as I had to sacrifice 3 or 4 to whittle their stack down to size. There was a GG fortified in Timbuktu that I move back to London and Settled. We are close to the point of getting 5 promotions per unit as soon as they are built in London.
There is one turn left for Steel. Do we go for Nationalism/MT to get Calvary or try to shoot to Rifling (pun intended) or perhaps try for the free scientist from Fission?
I used the GE to help hurry Steel as research has slowed as money has run out. It seems that Great People production is slowing down, maybe from WW. I have had to divert cities from military units to building Temples, Theatres, and Colosseums because WW has been kicking our behinds. We probably don't need anymore. I have had to MM each city to prioritize growth, to our happiness cap, over production.
It may be time to produce another Settler or two to fill in the rest of our continent, particularly the area in the South which seems like a good spot, then perhaps east of Djenne or the center of the continent? Our workers have just about finished improving all the spots in our current cities

It seems a very good TS, GB!
Perhaps we got some hope to win the game, at least.
I'll wait 'til tuesday to play, to see if anybody gives a sign.
In the meantime, i'll try to open the save and post some plan.

Well, we can finish this game as a 3-men-band, remember Cream?

Trebs? we'll got cannons soon, and the upgrade is one of the most cheap.
 
OK, I'm back from a LOOONGG weekend. Far too tired to think about civ right now, but will check the save asap. What's the plan, BLubmuz?
 
I am encouraged by graph watching. Other than the teams that are back around 600AD, we are right in the thick of things and we appear to be the leaders in score for the date we are at. I know that score doesn't win it, but it gives me a confidence boost that we are not so far off track. I see that some other teams have had some bad luck, like we had.
 
I got the save opened while writing this.
First of all we need 3 settlers and their escorts to:
- city close to silver, we'll gain a lot of land and a precious resource
- city on top of a fur, same reason
- city far north of London (north of Saxon) to gain land

some more troops to take Vandal, a lot of land
- then another settler for a city between Vandal and Hastings (NE of London)
- another one for the island NW of London, perhaps on the Iron hill.

Our troops in Viking lands are a lot and can keep the position: we can probably start to move some from Nidaros to Haitabu, and try an amphibious attack to Roskilde - to raze it - then to Birka, and try to keep this last.
We can also send some workers to inprove the land there, they should be reasonably safe.

A good target can be the 2 cities S and W of Roskilde, but i don't think i can do much on my TS, maybe next one.

yes, surely 2 team are doing worse than us, and one probably is doing very bad.
There's an half of teams around us, and another half sitting around 1000 AD.
I can't see how, but probably they have already finished - and won.

I'll wait for comment, and play tomorrow, since no one gives sign.
If so, i'll play this TS, and the others after me.
 
It looks like a good outline. Lets see what your TS brings. Don't forget a plan for the western invasion fleet. I'm kind of torn between taking the two island cities and opening a second front on the main continent. If Saladin's troops appear near Haithabu, I suggest we try the second front as he has left minimal protection in his cities.
