SGOTM 06 - Fifth Element

Ha! I promise not to disappear, anyway (unless requested to do so :p)!

I consider myself an intermediate player, and I've done reasonably well for that level in the last several XOTMs (though it looks like I screwed up BOTM 04 pretty good). Always trying to improve by finding good teachers though, and I believe in the "Jesusin philosophy" of using this site both to freely share what I know (or think I know) and to learn from everyone else. Winning would be great, but it is third priority behind (1) having fun and (2) improving my game. SGOTM looks like a great way to do that.

That said, there are still many ways I remain a total noob. For example: How did you get that spiffy box around your file attachment GreatBeyond? My attachment a few posts up looks dull by comparison (though it still seems to work ok). Where/how does everyone get the cool avatars? I've looked a couple of times on the site (okay, maybe without much conviction) and I can't figure out how to upload a unique picture file to serve as an avatar. Also, I've played the XOTM regularly for several months now, but I haven't spent any time at the Hall of Fame section of the site, so I don't know much about how it works (though I've enjoyed some of the discussion threads there quite a bit).

I tend to agree, with the exception BLubmuz noted earlier:Honestly if I'd known there were any possibility both WastinTime and Balbes might decide to join the team I probably would have been too intimidated to accept the invitation!

You can get a custom avatar when you've been a member for 30 days, and have 30 posts, go here and scroll down.

You do however need focus from the start and straying from the path can cost you dearly(we built way too many units in the midgame and didn't get oracle/col and got pyramids very late which caused our late finish, on prince you don't need anything but swordsmen to wipe out the AI...).
Straying is typically my problem in civ. There are always too many options, and they all look good. :)

I'm guessing you copied and pasted the address as a link. If you just attach the file and don't post it into the body, it turns up at the bottom in a box, iirc.

Hey, good job guys. I wasn't convinced that we could do it, but you guys managed. Well done.

I'm deeply sorry for disappearing as I did. I don't have any real excuse, except to say that my motivation level was zero for this particular game and I made a few too many commitments in various arenas.

I will probably not join for the next SGOTM as I'd have difficulty holding to any commitment. Again, I'm sorry for abandoning you and good luck in the future games!

Good call... and fixed. Thanks Sweetacshon!

Got it! Can't vouch for the "coolness" of the results (cause it's homemade and I'm no Photoshop wiz), but managed to get it to work, anyway. Thanks dutchfire!

I still feel a bit "noobish" after reading LowtherCastle's post at the Murky Waters SG6 thread, but what the hell. (Someone ought to introduce Dr. Castle to a skilled sapper. :satan: Are we up to doing that in SG7? :yumyum:) I just hope I interpreted Jesusin's ideas more or less correctly.

Looks like we have another. Welcome, Sabre!! (you probably won't read this, tho)

Always keen, never sharp enough. ;)

For those of you which didn't noticed, and are seriously interested to give an actual contribution to the team, there's a new SG here.

I think I'll be able to participate in this. I do think there is an unprecedented level of shady stuff in SGOTM. Far more than GOTM and likely by orders of magnitude. It's still a good learning experience even if it's not a fair fight.

If anything the next game will be very fast both in turn set time and total hours played. Perhaps it will afford time to get actual scripts set out before each turnset for awhile.

I just had my first go at the test, btw, getting rolled by the buddhists at around 1820, due to my loose diplo at the time - I played it in 1 sitting, so was/am tired. I have no doubt it's winnable, but resource placement and diplo are major factors, as is having deep beelines and winning plans early. I'm looking forward to it.

It wouldn't be hard to cheat, but I just don't see what anyone would get out of it. Perhaps some 14 yr olds get warm and fuzzies, but what would I care?
