SGOTM 07 - Fifth Element

The admins don't like it at all! Desist. External assistance like this is strictly against the rules.
Sorry Alan, it's just we're curious .
But at this stage of the game it changes nothing.
We're on a SR victory (hopefully) and it was just a curiosity.
Still, i'd like to know why Gyathaar made this kind of chance.
Warmongers are always preferred, i guess :(.

It's true, the dom limit has no bearing on our game. Perhaps the map was made like this to aid in a deity victory, or maybe the info was false.

I thought we were going to build the copper part as soon as fiber finished. Let's not get too lazy for the last few days of our long journey. I'm not sure about farming the fur. Been gambling in Reno, so I need to check the save and see what's up.

No, do not farm the fur. That will chop the forest and we lose a hammer along with the commerce. The best thing to do is just starve 1. Then we will stop working the water tile.

Ooops, I see the pre-windmilled lumbermill was finished/chopped :( The hammers are lost if we were on research :( :( That's too bad, we wanted to save all our forests for the final part.

Crap, the "pre-chopped" london forest is gone too. These forests' are best used to rush the final part.

We're 4 turns from Fusion and we didn't build the cockpit yet  It takes only 8 turns and should be done by now.

What have our workers been doing? We should be preparing, but not finishing, all the forests (for us and liz). The grasslands should probably get workshops. Once all tech is finished we'll want to finish these tiles. Maybe 1 could be a farm so she doesn't starve.

I chopped the London forest to finish the Apollo.
Chopped/windmilled also our one trying to avoid starvation, forgetting we lost health
But don't worry, the hammers are not lost while building research: they will show when we'll build something.
Furs are giving 5 commerce, sea 3 = 8.
If we farm the furs we'll have 1 or 2 commerce and can continue work the sea while growing +1.
We can intermittently use an engineer to have 2 hammers (and 3 beakers), until we'll arrive to starve.
In addition, we'l have the hammers from chopping.

Another option is to research Ecology ASAP and build a Recycling Center, so we can even build the IWs.

Good idea rushing apollo a bit.

Good thought on the windmill. If you're thinking of killing the furs/forrest with a farm, then you should just consider windmilling the other lumbermill. That will give you 1 food with no loss of health this time. Let's put those hammers into the cockpit. I'd still rather save the forests and just lose 1 pop.

In BTS your hammers are saved, but I'd bet we lost them.

Plan: build cockpit and stasis chamber. Goal: finish these by the time we get robotics.
Stasis takes no aluminum, so it's a good part for us. Let's put it in our Queue now with the cockpit first. (And lets add internet, manhat.proj, too ...after research.

Well good thing i didn't play. Forum was down last night. I've mentioned this before, but I've never launched a spaceship in the 12 years and 4 versions of civ. I don't even really have a handle on how it even works.

I'll follow the above advice.

culdeus: Here's a trick that you will need to perform:

When we have 1 turn left on Fusion, tell Liz to start Plastics. Fusion will probably go to 2 turns, but that's OK. This trick lets us get the engineer...which we will save until after plastics...and lightbulb Robotics.

Another trick that will probably be in your TS:

Liz will probably finish the thrusters, and we'll get to a point where we have a couple casings and the engine to build. The goal is to make Liz do the Engine in her capitol and leave the casings for her 2nd city. We don't want them to both build casings and have no one start the engine. So, to that end, when Liz's captiol is about to finish a part, put the last casing in our build queue (after research). Next turn, when she starts the engine, remember to remove it from our queue! So the engine is in one city while the other makes the last 2-3 casings. Make sense?

There is no point in chopping/rushing any more parts because we can't do any more until robotics. We save our rushing for Docking Bay, Life Support.

I assume you'll play about 10 turns, you could go as far as plastics, but don't go past that. We need to re-evaluate at that point. I'd prefer we don't rush it. 10 turns would be good, just short of plastics.

EDIT: Don't play yet. I have one other idea to work out yet...

Ya, scrap that plan. Here's the thing: The AI will never trade techs with space parts attached. That means Plastics could eventually be traded to us. Also our current plan of robotics->ecology creates a space part bottleneck. Normally not a problem, but we only have 2 cities. We want the last part to be in Liz's capitol with the 4 forests.

So we should do Fusion (with the trick that lets us get the engineer) -> Ecology -> Plastics (watch every turn for it to become available for trade) -> Robotics.

That means we can build the other Copper part (Life support, Ecology)

Which also means we don't build the stasis chamber, we can build more research.

So culdeus, how about you write up what you plan to do and we'll review it 1 more time before playing.

Great plan. Sounds a bit tricky to implement tho -- writing it down would be a good idea.

I especially enjoyed the tips about getting the GE and putting the last casing in our build cue to free up London. Good catch with going Fusion --> Ecology first too.

Laurel or no laurel this has been a great sprint into space. Let's finish it proudly now.

How do I "tell liz to start plastics?"

Assuming I can figure that out and finish fusion to get the GE (to then gift to liz I assume?) then go back to plastics.

Looks like build research the whole time with casings in the queue till liz starts a new part and release it from the queue.

Other than that it looks like the worker stuff is covered for a bit?

Likely no tech trading.

Question: Would it be even remotely worth it to take DC at this point? One more city might help out liz? Or would it.

Culdeus,
just open the diplo with Liz and choose "let's discuss something else"
you'll see "why don't you research"
and choose plastics or whatever if you manage to trade for it.

It's not worth a war now: before the city is productive we'll launch.
Also, we can have some unwanted consequences.
Gut observation: pity, i'd like to smash that worm.

Even Liz's 3rd city is useless (except for research), so a 4th city is not worth it this late.

At 1 turn left on Fusion, you want to talk with Liz to have her switch to Ecology (I think the plan changed from plastics). You have to click the line that says you want to talk about something else, then "I'd like you to research...", then choose Ecology.

Tech trading: Keep an out every turn for plastics to be tradable.

Workers: start workshops on Liz's grass/forests. Be careful not to finish them. I usually just cancel all worker orders at the end of every turn, or watch them closely. You probably know you have to stop them when it says 2 turns to go. If you don't cancel orders at 2 turns left, they can finish the work on the next turn before you get a chance to stop them.

Don't gift the GE, just let it sit around until robotics is being researched.

I think you should build the Cockpit. After Ecology your TS is probably over, and we can decide if we should build LifeSupport. Add Cockpit, Research, ManhattProj, Internet to your queue.

I will not be able to play tomorrow. It will be Saturday evening before I get some time to myself. I guess skip me. I have to go to bed soon and wake up very early tomorrow.

Turn 1: Build Queue: Cockpit - Casings - Casings - Internet - Manhattan
Turn 2: York completes Casings, starts Thrusters
Turn 3: x
Turn 4: London: completes Thrusters, starts new thrusters
Turn 5: Liz starts Plastics
Turn 6: We get the Fusion GE, start Plastics, other civs are completing lots of casings. The great artist names have been run out :). Plastics still not tradeable, I decide to pursue Ecology first instead
Turn 7: York starts Casings after completing Thrusters
Turn 8: Beijing completes cockpit, I decide to stop here.

We're 4 turns from ecology, we have the GE from Fusion. Should we build the stasis chamber now?

We don't have plastics yet, Catherina "has her reasons" (= building the 3GD), Saladin doesn't like us enough, and Cyrus and Asoka fear we're becoming too advanced. We could try to please Saladin?

Good work. I think you're right about 3gd. Once that is completed, we might get plastics in trade. So we're on the right tech path.

I say no to the stasis chamber. In 4 turns we can do LifeSupport (copper) if we want, but if Liz can do it all that's best cus we're better at research. Need to calculate the parts left.
