SGOTM 07 - Xteam

Shall we play Misfits' save in our own thread in the Succession Game thread? :hmm:

Misfits is playing the succession variant where everyone plays the save and they choose the result they like best. Do we want to play this way? And do we want to practice religious victory? If we're not playing the same way as them, the games wont be comparable.

I'm not sure you guys would really want to practise religious victory. It's a pretty narrow way to play and I don't think it will teach you much about the differences in BTS.

Trying to war in BTS has been made more difficult through changes to the tech tree, seige weapons and more importantly the new AI behaviour. Playing a game that makes you familiar with the new AI behaviour would be most helpful IMO. (e.g. domination)

I agree with JT. Thinking about it some, perhaps we should forgo comparisons. I know I need work on the fundamentals of warring in :bts:

Working on the basics of warring is never a bad thing. I've set up a thread in the SG forums so that we don't clutter up this one. Here is a link.

So our efforts resulted in 5th place. Not bad, and not fully satisfactory either.

I think our biggest mistake was not deciding the VC early in the game. Both MW and Misfits started warring with their intended PA partner before the PA was signed and that seemed to make a clear difference.

I had the false impression that we couldn't form a PA with a civ that was number one in score (this misleading info was emphasized  in an OCC article I read somewhere) and that didn't help either, because it makes early warring seem less attractive.

:yup: I agree. How do we make sure of the rules we are playing with in these games?

btw, nice to see you back. :wavey:

Thanks leif. I have already signed up for the next SGOTM.

One key to better performance in the next SGOTM is probably to get a more clear picture of how the whole game should develop before we get too deep into the game and have made far reaching decisions that can't be undone.

Let's talk more when the new threads are opened.

In any game of civ it's plan plan plan. Since the practice game has died out a bit, can everyone play a single player game with Khmer and see how well you do vis a vis the victory condition? We can report findings whenever the thread opens up. If all nine (?) of us contribute one strategic master stroke from doing so, we cant be stopped huh?
