SGOTM 07 - Xteam

I was just scanning over in Murky's thread (logged out first :goodjob:) they are fighting with cannons and have qued up biology (20 turns) for research.

Around post #3283 they talk about watching what your PA partner's unit does (ie move towards city or pillage) and the sequences of unit orders. It is a good little discussion. Klarius clarifies the movement part in post #3290.

They still have a tough Lizzy to deal with and the other continent may come into play in their game as there is not a big tech seperation. I haven't looked at their save yet, but they are (or were) considering a trade of Chemistry & PPress for Nationalism.

Congrats, MP. Fantastic fireworks in Boston tonight accompanying the Boston Pops. (I just enjoyed on TV, but leif may have been in attendance, as his profile puts him nearby.) You ought to consider attending that fireworks/orchestra celebration of the fourth, if you and your wife ever visit on our birthday.

I have gone several times to attend the Pop's Fourth of July celebration. It is quite amazing! I have not been for several years as, to get a seat, one must get there in the morning and "stake your claim" (some sleep there overnight! ). What we used to do was go in as a family and a couple of us would sit in our chosen spot while the rest would enjoy the city. We'd keep a schedule in order to rotate so no one would have to sit all day. Being there is so  but watching on TV is much more convenient... :shifty:

EDIT - In post 3311, FiveAces comments on our power graph, correctly assessing that we gifted units. He's pretty sharp...
And then Klarius determines that we are done.

MW have been busy talking about which cities to raze to avoid having happy problems. So much so they'd leave themselves well short of the population requirements for domination. Unfortunately Lowther Castle won't stop reminding them of this problem, so they probably won't cut their own throats in this way...

They seem to have down exactly what motivates the AI to take a city or plunder don't they?

They are very good at reading and interpreting code, especially Klarius. He is a very good player.

I would like to learn more from them but wading through all their posts is very time consuming...

Looks like CRC, Smurkz and OSS are going for diplo and Misfits, Murky and Gypsy Kings are going for domination.

There sure is plenty of competition going on. Any team that places in the top 3 will have earnt it!

Well done ShannonCT and the rest of the XTeam :goodjob:.

As you may have seen AlanH has extended the deadline for this game with a full month so it will be a while before we know if our date is good enough to bring us another laurel. Can't help feeling that we put ourselves at a disadvantage by playing fast...

It will be interesting to see how the diplo games stack up to the ones going for domination. I was reading Smurkz' thread and it seems to be getting pretty complicated, quite a challenge.

I'm just hoping we get one of the laurels! Unless MW runs into very bad RNG, they'll be in contention for gold. Hard to tell about CRC due to the brevity of their posting.

Yes, it's very hard to tell from the threads what order they'll finish in. I've downloaded some current saves to have a look at but haven't had a chance yet.

I’ve just been looking at the current saves of Murky Waters, Misfits and CRC. From looking at just those three saves, I have to say I’ll be rather surprised if we get any laurels. All three of these teams should finish ahead of us from here.

Murky are going for domination in PA with Kublai. They are at turn 151, and have eight more cities to capture in order to clear their own continent, and have 53 turns in which to do it if they are to finish ahead of us. Very doable, especially since they have a GA sitting in Beijing to take care of any culture expansion problems they might have at the last minute.

Misfits are also going for domination, in PA with Asoka. They are at turn 179 and have only four cities remaining to be taken. They have a significant tech lead though they’ll have to deal with Lizzy’s redcoats yet. They have 24 turns to get those 4 cities though if they are to finish ahead of us, and they also have a GA sitting in Beijing.

Interestingly, the difference between Murky and Misfits is that Murky built no world wonders, while Misfits have built Hanging Gardens, the Great Lighthouse, and the Pyramids!

CRC are currently at turn 128 and are clearly going for a diplo win without a PA since they have ignored communism and are now heading for electricity. If they use their two GS’s they can be half way to electricity already at 325AD. Nice going. They’re teching even better than we did I think. They are Jewish, and are building Jewish missionaries in Beijing, and most of the world is already Jewish. They look like achieving a frightfully early diplo. The only thing we can hope for there is for widespread liberalism to lead to widespread free religion leading to enough civs deciding not to vote for them! They have a GE sitting in Beijing ready to pop the UN out the instant they get Mass Media...

I think for us to get laurels, one or more of these three teams is going to have to make some bad mistakes, or have some frightful luck.

Let's hope Misfits have problems with the domination pop limit. They're working on it, let's see how it pans out.

Haven't looked at CRC. With all the problems of Diplo, who knows what could catch trip them up... :mischief:

You're right. None of them are home free yet! I was talking probabiliteis - if I was on one of those teams and knew we had a 1450AD finish to beat, I'd be quite optimistic about it.

Yes, you're right too.

I'm feeling the pain of 10 turns in front of the monitor pleading with Asoka to please take a city. :please: Those ten turns will cost us, I fear... :cringe:
