SGOTM 08 - Chokonuts

Ozbenno,
Hopefully I am not the tie breaker. I am putting forth my views knowing full well i am probably missing the bigger picture :)

Hi, checking back in. RL has been really busy lately, but that has passed, so now I'm able to play again.

My comments: I'm not fond of the city resources, but I like the choke point.
I'd definitely wait for the second catapult. Maybe even for the third.

Played ten

Firstly turned sci up to 70% COL 17 turns and held back initial assault until reinforcements arrive (T4). Moved Axe upto Bronze to attempt to pillage.
Found Nobamba defended by 2 CG1 archers.

Ulundi defended by 2 axes and an archer.

Lose 2 cats in initial attack but take Gungun at second turn. Razed.

Once recovered move towards Nobamba whilst pillaging axe completes his mission but is killed the next turn by shock promoted axe.
Lose one cat taking Nobamba. Move attacking army there to heal.
Complete Baray in Chokocentral. Currently building HG in central and Granary in elephantastic although no hammers currently in either. COL in 5 turns.

Shaka has reconnected horses and I didnt build the spear. We have 4 cats and 5 axes currently (at least one will be needed to cover Nobamba) I'd suggesting moving towards Ulundi with 4 axes and 4 cats if we disconnect horses or 3 axes and 4 cats if we dont.

Good turns.

HG is good! I'd put Chokocentral on wonder duty from now actually. We'll need courthouses in Zulu lands.

The quicker we take down Shaka the better. I'd march straight there without disconnecting horses.

Aesthetics after CoL (opens many wonders)?

McArine, ngraner or cubbies is UP, I suppose.

Thinking on I would build one more axe or spear from elephantastic to use to cover any sneak attack. He still has a shock axe and a combat II axe near ulundi. I also think we need IW sooner rather than later to start cottaging the jungle. COL in 5 I think we are also 15ish turns of first G Person which will either be Priest or Scientist. If we miss confusedness I think we should hire scientist to try and get more chance of GS. If we get confusedness we should just hold out and hope for GPriest for shrine.

Was just a thought if we dont get confusedness where we wont be able to build shrine untill pilho or theo in the mean time we would look to get priest from second great person. Otherwise would have great person hanging around. Building a temple now maybe prudent to improve chances of GP before Choko starts HG.

agree with ozbenno on prioritizing ge's and gp's given goals of game. ditto on Mighty dwarf and build of temple.

My plan is:
Research: If we get confused, I'll go for IW, if not, I'll go for Meditation for Philosophy.

Building: After Granary in Elephantastic, I'd build a Workboat for Nobamba or Axe, depending on the war.
Switch to Temple in ChokoCentral if we get confused, otherwise just keep on HG.

War: I will attack on turn 7, when the last catapult has arrived over the river. Unless we're facing overwhelming forces.

If I remember rightly the seafood near Nobamba has already been worked so no need for workboat there. I would build axe then Granary in elephantastic. My worry is for shaka to sneak a chariot out of Ulundi and retake Nobamba if only defened by a single axe.
Thinking about it building a temple and hiring a priest wont actually increase our chances of a G Priest will only bring first GPerson sooner. If we want to cut 1st great person by about three turns then go for the temple otherwise stick with going for HG.

We will should have same total priest points whether we get them at 2 per turn or 5 per turn thus same overall priest percentage. If we take ime out now from HG we prolong risk of losing out on this but delay GPerson. Depends which we see as more important. Im happy either way just pointing out options.

Played ten.

Mightys fears became real, as I was about to attack Ulundi, a chariot sneaked by and took Nobamba.
But we took Ulundi without losses. And got a GG during the battle.

We got confused, and of course Nobamba became the holy city , the turn before we lost it.
I managed to save the free missionary, he is now close to Chokocentral.

I chopped a forest to speed up HG, so it is now 4 turns away.

Meditation researched on turn 10, I chose philosophy, but can be swithced to something else.

Our forces are ready to take Nobamba as soon as it grows.
