SGOTM 08 - Fifth Element

Are you going to take Bangalore on the island with the Taoism holy city? It is potentially one more wonder.

We need Assembly Line eventually both for infantry and a prereq for Facism which lets us build Mt. Rushmore. I think that Mass Media is more pressing, and Biology would be good for the extra food from farms in two or three specialist cities. After that we will need infantry to finish off Rome and maybe allow us to get Facism and Rocketry for the additional wonders before we finish.

I say take Corp and Devine Right. If Ghandi throws in anything else it is just icing ont he cake.

OK, seen the save.

Let's take and keep all the indian mainland cities, then vassallize G.
Taoist holy is a good idea, but i'm afraid we need too much time to take it.

Verlamion stack is huge but weak, no problem for our rifles.

I've seen we already revolted to pacifism, now don't wait to revolt to Confu.

I think once we kick Gandhi off the mainland, we should have no problem getting Corp and an island city for capitulation.

If Bangalore does not become the capitol after we capture all of the mainland, we may be able to demand it as a concession in the peace/capitulation negotiations with Ghandi. Bangalore is a better prize than Corporation or any tech for that matter because we can always trade for techs or demand them from another AI opponent after we decimate them.

I'd like Bang, but it will probably be the capitol, so not available in the deal.
Since we are unlikely to get a GProphet, we can just let that one wonder go. Maybe G will build it and then we can try to force the vassal deal to end in the last few turns of the game and take it. I'm very busy today, but will play Sunday morning.

Is there a more detailed plan coming? I would suggest it, because with all the discussion , it is easy to lose focus on the goals and plans that have been discussed. We then end up critiquing too much after the fact with things we thought were settled.

The Plan

We've already been put in Pacifism, so I'm going Confu on turn 1. Gem trade for cow.

workers: cancel all orders and build workshops, nothing else. No farms, lumbermills, mines, or roads to nowhere.

Builds:
No more observatories, LH, etc. Just military, wonders, and eventually some settlers, but not right now.
Engineering: IW -> NE
5th: SoL
Someone in the west will build 2 workboats (see whale city below)

War: Kill J, Vassal G after mainland clear for an island city and Corp. If I can't get BOTH, I'll take the whale city. The sheep city is a bit better, but let's just get the whale. (Very obvious attack pattern on G). Attack barb city. Boudica: go for the stack in the closest city.

Tech: Steam, elect. I'll run a couple turns of 0% to get cash for upgrades.

Yep. Sounds fine. If the lh didn't finish in Ulundi, tho, I'd let that build complete (can't remember). It might be an idea to get an ironclad or 2 to protect our ferry point, and maybe the bombarding frigates.

re: UN, I am unsure, but I think the self vote threshold is 75%, and vassals will vote for you and not be included as a self vote. I might have a look and see if I can nail it down.

I just submitted BOTM 12 with a UN win powered by capitulated vassals, so it is possible. I don't know if it was a fluke or not, but in my game Boudicea wouldn't capitulate until she was down to one city. It makes me wonder if there is some new code in the last update giving civ likelihood of capitulating.

Rome is also unlikely to capitulate.

I think the Celts will be easy to eliminate if they won't capitulate.

I've searched in the XML, but no way to find a parameter about willing to be a vassal. More accurately, there's one, but i think it refers to self-vassals.
Probably the parameter is somewhere else, but i can only look at the XMLs.

Searched in the war academy, nothing about that.

My experience tells me that usually an aggressive leader is harder to vassallize than others.
But remember i take no prisoners in my solo games.

I also looked last night in the code by searching for all references to capitula*, in the XML and Python and didn't find anything indicating a civ specific bias. Perhaps it is based on some of the Aggressive factors. Either way I guess it doesn't matter. We'll find out soon enough.

Techs should be a priority over cash for upgrading units. We will get cash from each city we take.
As long as we don't leave Gandhi with any Wonders, we can vassalize him at any time. I would prefer a tech over a city, especially if it's a small island city. Bangalore would probably be OK, we'll just have to ensure we get a GP.

Sorry gang, my girlfriend made some special plans for the day, so I only got half done. It took over 3 hours just to get a few turns in. Some highlights:

IBT: The inherited turn already had the units moved. Sweeta left a frigate all alone. It survived the attack from a frigate, but then a caravel came and cleaned it up.
I did get Confu and gems done that turn anyway.

When taking Agra, my last attacker lost (67%). I thought I had no way to finish off the city that turn, but then I saw the super-medic in the other city, 3 tiles away. With it's 3 movement I was able to get Agra (and I kept it).

I also killed J.

With about 2% chance, we popped a GA in Marbles. I think this is great news. Now we don't have to run any artists and hope for one. With our luck, we'll end up with 3 of them, but now we can concentrate on a GM.

Easily took G's other mainland cities. Traded capitulation + DivRight, 2 gold/turn, whale city, WM.

The world is at peace...for less than 1 turn. I'm planning to start in on B this same turn, before her borders expand.

Our tech pace was ~800 beakers/turn at the start of my TS. By then end of my TS, I'm hoping to get to 1800! Yes, that's how powerful Delhi is. It comes out of revolt on my last turn. Of course it's not all Delhi, it's the happiness we now enjoy.

Seems good.
Just be sure to have enough defenders in the border cities, once we start the dance with Bou. She's in the Hindu party, and i would'n see grens and cavs from Rome attack us.

I agree with this assessment. We should get some more defenders from the other continent to reenforce our position so that our experienced attackers can stay together and make quick work of Celtia.

I took that barb city, oh, and I vassalized Boudica too!
Not really, but she's ready to give up. Obviously we need the capitol first.

I lured B's stack out of the city and wiped it out in 1 turn. I suicided 2 cannons. I'm not sure that was necessary. I'm just not comfortable with that strategy. Then I was able to take her 1st city. And she will capitulate already! I suppose we should just take the capitol (3 turns). Then vassalize. All the boats are loaded up end of last turn so could dump the troops out this turn on the west side of Tolosa. It's no faster to sail all the way around and more risky. Taking Tolosa and the capitol would give us some tiles to work.

Hindu is no longer a "party" since it's only Perc and Boud. I did leave an extra unit or two on the Rome border, but not expecting an attack.

save file coming soon...

save

It took me 5-6 hours to play. Maybe we should shorten the TS to 6 turns.

I played 8. t222 was mostly played out, so I played 223-230, but I had to press enter to see Delhi come out of revolt so it's on t231.

Happyness is thru the roof. We are at 100% research. Came up just short of the 1800 beaker goal. Radio in only 4 turns! All thoughts should go to figuring out how to win this in < 40 turns. With Boudica only taking ~ 5 turns to vassalize, I'm getting a better feeling about this game.

We'll probably have to drop to 90% research when we start some wonders. (CristoR in Engineering.)

Haven't looked at the save yet, but looks like a great TS there, WT :goodjob:

I agree with shorter TS and winning in < 40 turns seems very likely.
